Deltona Middle has been recognized again as a Five Star School. Accepting the recognition on behalf of
Deltona Middle are Alicia Douglas, Curriculum Assistant Principal and Eve Navarro, Title 1 Parent
Liaison.

Bring Your Own Technology (BYOT) Logo Contest Winners
This year, Deltona Middle is in the process of becoming a Bring Your Own Technology
(BYOT) School. On designated days and in designated classrooms, students will be
allowed to use their own technology when instructed to do so by classroom teachers.
Deltona Middle sponsored a BYOT Logo Contest which was open to all Deltona Middle
students. The contest allowed students to design a logo that will assist in
communicating consistent procedures on BYOT days.

Extended Media Hours: Mondays and Thursdays from 4:00pm –
5:30pm
Extended Media hours will take place Mondays and Thursdays from 4:00pm –
5:30pm. Students may work on class assignments, projects and complete homework.

Praise Impact 2014-2015:
Praise Impact encourages strong bonds of friendship and service to
our school community. The club meets every other Tuesday
afternoon with Mr. Sallade in room 213 and with Mrs. Santiago as the
assistant.
The club conducted the annual See You at the Pole which is a
national prayer event for students nationwide. This was held on
Wednesday, September 24, 2014 in front of the school office. All were
invited to attend and pray for our nation, our school, our families,
friends and ourselves.
Praise Impact & Students Reach out recently conducted a
school-wide food drive to support needy families within the
Deltona Middle School family.
Praise Impact members will make lifetime friends as they take this
spiritual journey together. Come help Praise Impact show others that
we care and will work to help each other reach our full potential.
Deltona Middle Celebrates Straight “A” Students— (First Nine Weeks)
On Monday, November 3, 2014, Deltona Middle held its Straight “A” Breakfast in honor
of approximately fifty students who earned an “A” in all subjects and earned a 4.0 GPA
for the First Nine Weeks. We are extremely proud of these students.

Decorative Glass Blocks on Sale for $15 sponsored by Mrs. Hileman
(Multi-VE Department)
Ms. Hileman, a teacher in the Multi-VE department, is selling beautifully decorated glass blocks
with lights. The cost is $15.00. If you are interested in purchasing one of the glass blocks
before the holidays, orders can be placed with Mrs. Hileman in room 431. The proceeds benefit
the Multi-VE program.
Winter Wonderland Dance
Students, the Winter Wonderland Dance will take place Wednesday, December
10, 2014 in the cafeteria from 3:00pm – 5:00pm. Tickets are $3.00 and can be
purchased during lunch periods.

Holiday Talent Show
The Holiday Talent Show is Tuesday, December 16th from 6:00pm –
8:00pm in the cafeteria. For additional information, contact Ms. Bobbitt at
[email protected]. The event will feature student, teacher and
staff talent.
Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Program Events &
Activities:
Daytona State College Field Study: Friday, October 17, 2014
AVID 8th graders attended Daytona State College on October 17th and attended
two 50 minute classes. The classes were Cosmetology and Music Production. The
students thoroughly enjoyed their college visit. The 8th grade AVID students have
also taken part in Junior Achievement, “It’s Your Future”. The program provided
practical information about preparing for the working world while still in middle
school. The students developed a personal brand, learned about skills, interests,
working environment and job outlook considerations while exploring careers and
industries. The students worked on career mapping and job-hunting tools. Lastly,
the students discussed work ethics and professionalism. The next step will
involve the students taking a Career Assessment!
AVID Program Socratic Seminars and Philosophical Chairs Activity
Both the 7th and 8th grade classes are learning discussion
techniques through the use of Socratic Seminars and
Philosophical Chairs.

Ms. Neal’s Art Student Receives Recognition
Ms. Neal’s Art Student, Norrisa Jones (7th grader), will have her artwork featured
on the cover of a Volusia County School’s publication.
STEM Day at Deltona Middle
Thursday, November 13th, was STEM Day at
Deltona Middle School. STEM is a culmination of
Science, Technology, Engineering and
Mathematics. The day featured guest presenters,
teachers and involved collaboration with business partners. Students engaged in interactive
stations that brought together STEM concepts. Students actively participated in learning how
things work and created lasting memories.

Deltona Middle Celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month: Friday,
September 26, 2014
Our annual Deltona Hispanic Diversity dance brought out the best in students, parents
and faculty. Over two hundred people played a role in some way, making the evening a
wonderful time of heritage, food, fun and dancing. The ESOL department, as well as our
new Parent Involvement representative, Evelyn Navarro, would like to express thanks to
all who supported this event.

Community Events and Programs Announced On-Line
Events and programs sponsored by community organizations are now available on the
District’s website at http://myvolusiaschools.org. Simply select “Parents” icon and
locate Tool box on right-hand bottom corner, then click flyers. New flyers will be posted
on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month. Be sure to check the website frequently
for events and activities occurring throughout Volusia County.
Don’t have computer access at home? A computer is available for your use in the
media center and at every Volusia County Public Library.
Family Science Night: Tuesday, December 9th from 6:00pm – 7:30pm
Family Science Night will be Tuesday, December 9th from 6:00pm – 7:30pm.
Students and
parents will participate in hands on science activities provided by the Orlando Science Center.
This will be fantastic interactive learning for the entire family!

DMS Social Studies Fair: Thursday, January 29, 2015 @ 5:30pm—
7:00pm
The 2014-2015 Deltona Middle School Social Studies Fair will take place Thursday January 29 from 5:30
– 7:00. The Volusia County Social Studies Fair is an exciting learning opportunity which encourages
students to explore different areas of the social studies, develop a product, and compare them to
students throughout the county. All students in advanced social studies classes are required to

Important information regarding medication in school:
For the safety of all our students, please do not send your child to school with medication.
Volusia County School Board District Policy: All Medication must be brought to school by the
parent/guardian or their adult designee. It must be in the original container labeled by the pharmacy.
Authorization to administer prescription/non-prescription medication form must be filled out correctly
for clinic staff to administer medication.

Health Insurance Information:
Florida KidCare is our state’s free or low cost health insurance program for children under 19 years old.
Your child may qualify for comprehensive health coverage through Florida KidCare, even if one or both
parents work. Getting health coverage for your children before they become sick is very important.
Children need regular check-ups so they can grow strong and healthy. Healthy children do their best at
school and play.

Hand washing is the best way to prevent colds. As Flu Season quickly approaches, please remind your
child to wash their hands or use hand sanitizer and keep hands away from nose and mouth.
