AND THE WINNER IS...
Tim Highum
32nd Annual Tri-County Record/Merchant
Football Contest
2nd place goes to...
Dennis Danielson
MOST
CORRECT
$30
Congratulations to Tim on getting his first win
ever. He gets on the payroll just in time for Christmas. It came down to the tiebreaker (30) and Tim
(40) went over by less than Dennie (45) to set the
placings. They both had only the Packer game wrong,
just missing out on the $100. Close behind with two
wrong were “Fingers” Himlie, Clark Cords, Rod Morcomb, and Braden Danielson.
Many picked the Packers this week but Aaron
Rogers had a less than Pro-Bowl day with no thanks
to his receivers, who dropped numerous catch able
balls. The Bills are a very good team and swept the
NFC North this season.
I liked what I saw from Teddy Bridgewater last
week. Yes, he looked like a rookie because he is. Two
turnovers plus a missed field goal that acted like
a third probably made the difference in the game.
He did go through his progressions well, had okay
footwork, and threw fairly accurately. Having AD in
the backfield would have been nice. It bodes well for
the future.
The Bears have talent on their team but they
seem to have lost where they put it. The defense
looks a bit better but the O-line played terrible. This
implosion has caused Jay Cutler to de-evolve as a
quarterback. Each of his picks against the Saints

PLACE
were due to: a bad receiver route, a bad receiver catch,
and trying to make something happen that wasn’t
there.
I have to mention that the Midwest is well represented in the Division II & III playoffs. Minnesota
State University-Mankato is playing for their first National Championship in school history. I have always
known them as, and will always hereto refer to them
as Mankato State. North Dakota State is in the SemiFinals and UW-Whitewater makes their annual trip
to play Mt. Union for their National Championship.
Over the next few weeks I will address the NFL
draft and needs for next year. At the moment, the
Queens pick at #11 and needs include offensive tackle
and guard as well as a free safety. Receivers can be
had in free agency. The Packers need a tight end, defensive line, and linebackers. The Lions need to resign
Ndadonkeykong Suh. The Bears need confidence and
line players.
Some of the top free agents that may be available
next season include the aforementioned boy named
Suh, Jeremy Maclain, Wes Welker, Darrelle Revis,
Dez Bryant, Demarco Murray, Reggie Cobb, Torrey
Smith, Greg Hardy, and Tramon Williams. We can
add Karl Klug to that list. Hey Jets and Bucs, T-Jack
and Christian Ponder will be out there!

I am on the Demarco Murray watch for this week.
With a broken bone and surgery on his hand he is
in doubt. The Cowboys rely on him for a majority of
their offense and so does my fantasy team. I am in
the Super Bowl in our league and I need him to play
desperately. Lucky for the Cowboys the Colts have
been playing poorly while winning four in a row.

The Bowl season officially starts this week with
the Thing-a –ma-jig Bowl, the Some Place In Texas
Bowl, Walmart Bowl, and the I Have So Much Money
I Can Sponsor A Bowl so you’ll have to make sure you
watch them. Winter is back so add another log on the
fire and happy picking.

Congrats to the Colts, Broncos, and Patriots for
winning their divisions. Steve Heiden’s Cardinals also
clinched a playoff spot. Kudos also go out to Larry
Overland and Don Carlson for getting the trivia
question right. These guys are trivia warriors. I asked
what Rutgers previous mascot was. The answer is the
Chanticleers. For those interested, a Chanticleer is a
type of rooster.
