32nd Annual Tri-County Record/Merchant
AND THE WINNER IS...
Peggy Ziegler
Football Contest
2nd place goes to...
Larry Overland
MOST
CORRECT
$30
I’m not sure if Peggy has ever won before but if
she has it’s been a while. She (42) beat out Larry (56)
on the tiebreaker (45), coming really close. They both
had only two wrong. Right behind them with three
wrong was Dawson Bunke and Sheri Overland. Buffalo changed their game to Monday night because
they got 6,000 feet of snow. I had to throw that game
out because of an early deadline day for Thanksgiving. I also threw out Grand Meadow’s State Championship because they played Friday morning.
Welcome to Thanksgiving week and rivalry
week. Numerous historical rivalries in college football come this week. Most are good ones. Others are
closer no matter who are the odds on favorite, like
Michigan and Notre Dame. Just like I said about the
Packer-Viking rivalry last week, this week you can
almost flip a coin.
Much to do is being made about whether the 12
person selection committee will put more weight on
winning a Conference Championship or having only
one loss. There won’t be any major movement in the
ranks this week but next week will be a different
story. There is the Iron Bowl, and battles for Mississippi, Georgia, Florida, plus Paul Bunyan’s Axe.
This week showed how far Jerry Kill has taken
this Gopher team, just as he has improved every

team he has ever coached. It’s always about a five
year process of improvement. This week the Gophers
will play for the Big Ten West title. I could never
see myself saying that three or four years ago. Even
at the start of this season I thought they would be
better than five hundred and I’d be happy with that.

The Vikes defense did a half way decent job but
the Packer line did a nice job of blocking for the running game. Eddie Lacy was always falling forward
for the extra yard or two on every carry. They will
have to keep running the ball and controlling the
clock this week. You have to keep Tom Brady off the
field.
