Fall
Volleyball players have been working
hard this year. Our varsity volleyball
team has lost only one game against
Needles. All the other games they
have won. Varsity won against
BHCJH, T-Bolt, Mohave Valley, and
MALC. The varsity has been on fire!
The J.V. has not been so hot. The J.V. By guest reporter Mrs. Wawrzynek
won only 2 games and those were Fall Intersession was extremely successful. Not
against local rivals MALC and BHCJH. only did students have the opportunity to catch
up on academic skills, but they were able to partake in the different clubs Fox Creek has to
offer. Students practiced their basketball skills, learned to garden, debated each other
on different topics, learned about crime scene investigations, and even got the chance
to develop their own sports franchise.

The Science Department has gotten
off to a great start! We have been
studying the Steps of the Scientific
Method!

what they are doing for their Science
Fair Projects. Science Fair Projects are
due in December 11, 2014, the week
before Christmas break. This will give
ample time for grading and selection of
our top finalists. These projects will be
narrowed down to top ten, by their
teachers and then top five, by other
teachers.
When we return from our Christmas
Break, we will hold our Science Fair on
Thursday night, January 8, 2015. There
a new panel of Judges will select Third,
Second and First Place Winners. We
hope all students and their families will
attend to view our young Scientists’
projects, as well as participate in some
exciting activities.

Math
THE
CREEK
6 grade math has been
working on foundational
skills so far this year. We
are the building blocks for
the next two years. During
first quarter we worked on
concepts like decimal operations, factors, multiples,
fraction operations, exponents, and started the basis
for proportions. In the future we will be working
hard on building our
knowledge of modeling/
diagraming all operations:
fractions, decimals, and
integers. This year we have
a lot of students who are
working hard to be great
mathematicians.
Leading
the charge with 100% on
their summatives are James
Borland, Audree Burgess,
Manny Gonzalez, Madelyn
MacDonald, Summer Miller,
Mariah Moss, and Damon
Puryear. Keep up the great
work!!
7th grade has been
working on number sense: adding,
subtracting, multiplying
and dividing rational
numbers and integers
and real-world problems
with integers and rationals. We've also divided
into algebra with standards like applying mathematical
properties
(distributing, combining
like terms, factoring,
etc), solving multi-step
equations, inequalities.
Q2 starts out with multistep ration and proportion problems, scale and
then we hit geometry.
Polygons and their properties, parallel lines cut
by a transversal, area
and circumference of a
circle are all geometry
topics that'll be covered.
Timber, Thomas, and Jack
All grade levels are getting ready for
the Consumer Challenge and students
have submitted their Proposals, on
8th has worked on evaluating and
solving equations with square roots
and cube roots, estimating the value of irrational numbers, solving
linear equations by distributing and
combining like terms, identifying
linear and nonlinear functions, and
comparing functions represented in
different ways.
Quarter 2 starts with graphing and
interpreting proportional relationships between two quantities and
comparing proportional relationships represented in different ways.
We then move onto explaining why
slope is the same between any two
points on a line using similar triangles. Next on the agenda is analyzing and then solving systems of
equations. We end quarter 2 with
properties of exponents, scientific
notation and then finding volume
of cones, cylinders and spheres.

Making History
What's Happening in Social Studies?
It is an exciting time for Social Studies at The Creek! We
will be spanning nearly 3000 years of history and will be
having a great Project Based Learning day that you are
all invited to see and enjoy.
During the second quarter, the 6th grade will be exploring the amazing times of the Ancient Greek and Roman
Empires! This was a time that includes the birth of democracy, and a republic form of government, the first
Olympics including Athens and Sparta, the expansion of
the Roman empire where "All roads led to Rome". Ancient Greece also gave us new ideas in philosophy, art
and education. Come to the Project Based Learning day
and see our 6th graders compete in a mock Olympic
games on our football field!
7th grade will be delving into the Civil War. From 1861
to 1865 our country engaged in the costliest war of
blood and treasure. Who wins will determine if we remain "One Nation Under God" or are split into two separate nations, both vulnerable to being taken over by
other world powers like England and France. We will
learn about the causes of the war, including states
rights, slavery and the Constitution. We will look at
some important battles from Fort Sumter to Gettysburg
to Robert E. Lee's surrender at Appomattox. Our project
based learning assignment will be a reenactment of the
third day of the Battle of Gettysburg, known as
"Pickett's Charge" which will be held on our
baseball field. You will be impressed at our
recreation of the battle that turned the tide
of the war to the Union.
Join us for a
day of fun on

ter. Having finished the good times of The
Roaring Twenties we will immerse ourselves in the
greatest economic challenge that our nation has ever
faced, "The Great Depression." We have already
learned about the stock market crash of October,
1929. We will next explore the bank failures, the Dust
Bowl of the 1930's, the election of Franklin D. Roosevelt
and his New Deal to make the economy strong. After
that, 8th grade will begin to learn about World War
Two.
Our project based learning assignment in 8th grade will
concentrate on the creation of the United Nations. Our
students will choose what countries they want to be
and the challenges of getting countries to work out
their differences without going to war, a challenge that
still goes on today.
Friday, November 14th will be the big day! Project
Based Learning will incorporate all of the disciplines,
not just Social Studies. Come on out, bring your cameras and be a witness to this really profitable educational
event.

The Tree By Arie Beck
As the sun dropped over the horizon,
and the birds were glad and free.
A figure stood in silence,
this figure was a tree.
This tree was nothing special,
a statue strong and firm.
It stood there strong and silent,
until there came a worm.
The worm said tree why do you
stand,
all tall and still this way.
The whole world is a-creeping,
Are you going to miss this day?
And to the worm the tree spoke,
I can see the world okay.
And my roots hold me here quite
tight,
so here I think I’ll stay.
So then the worm left that place,
free to wiggle and squirm.
And the tree stood still and silent,
and the tree stood tall and firm.

SADD club has had a great first quarter. They
have completed their first project, cleaning up
the campus. They have also helped Interact with
the first school dance of the school year.
The SADD club has many ideas for second quarter. One idea they have planned is to visit Davis
House. This will be taking place around Halloween. SADD club has much more planned for next
quarter. If you have any questions about SADD

Growing Artists
Reporter Morgan York
This year in art is very interesting. Some projects we are doing in art are Bead Weaving, Orangutan water color, and Blazing Banyan Tree. I personally think that all of the
projects are very great. I have done all of these myself or are in the middle of them.
The projects that I have seen are great.
Art is fun, creative, and relaxing. Everybody has artistic skills and art is a way to express yourself. It allows people to share their culture and communicate even if they
don’t speak the same language. For example, bead weaving is a way to express your
inner thoughts or express your artistic skills by creating a design in beads for a bracelet. If you like this article and creating art sounds interesting then you could sign up
and participate in the after school art programs.

The band will be participating in the Veteran’s Day
parade and the Boom Box parade. The Boom Box
parade will also include many other bands in the
area. The band will also be having their first concert
sometime in the second quarter, along with beginning band. Come support both bands at the Boom
Box parade and their first concert. They will be excited to show everyone what they have learned!

council by just coming to the meetings. Student council's teacher sponsor is Mrs. McGinnis.
An event student council is thinking about putting on is the Christmas dance and many others. Student council is talking about their t-shirts, raising funds, ideas to improve our school such as the
cafeteria food. Also student council put on a jersey day to help raise funds. If you are interested in
anything else about student council please contact Mrs. McGinnis.
Reporter Oakley Heaton
Congratulations to Kaylynn Williamson who is the President of the Interact club. Don’t forget about Jordan,
the Vice President, and Allison Interior, the Secretary. We wish them luck.
Interact is a charity or service club.
That means that students will be
completing community service activities throughout the year. To be an
Interact member students need to get
15 attendance points (awarded for
attending meetings and activities) and
have 10 hours of community service
by the end of the year.
our school?
INTERACT
In order to get the 15 attendance
you must come to most of the
meetings. You will receive 1
point each meeting you attend.
This is to make sure that you actually participate, and not just
say that you're a member. The
10 service hours are the hours
you spend completing service.
The community service hours
can be served at sports games
(by working concessions or admissions) or in approved activi-
ties.
An exciting activity that Interact will
be is doing is making things called
whopies. Whopies are little devices
that you put in water to tell when
it’s drinkable. To use them, you put
a whopie in unclean water in a nonflammable or non-meltable container and place over the fire. When the
water is clean the whopie will float.
Interact will be raising money to
make these for people in Iraq or other countries that have trouble finding clean drinking water.
