Regional
Workshop
A
t a Regional Activity Workshop on May 8, the Southwest Quilters Guild Group made
a significant donation of hand-made quilts for the benefits of long term care residents
throughout the region. The Quilters Guild presented 81 touch quilts during the Worskhop, a
surprise to many!
The lap-sized quilts, each with a unique design and features, were selected by staff from all 12 of
our long term care sites. In mere minutes, each of the 81 quilts were on their way to a new home.
Our sincerest thank-you to the Southwest Quilters Guild Group for this outstanding donation!

WANT TO EARN
SOME EXTRA
MONEY?
Did you know that the Cypress Health Region has an employee referral
program which provides rewards for those members of the region's staff and
physicians who are able to assist us in recruiting individuals into a difficult to
recruit position? You could earn up to $1000.00 for every referral that leads to
the hiring of a new employee, or physician in a high demand position.

Personal Use of
IT Equipment
O
n May 29 an eHealth Service Desk incident was reported after suspicious looking pop-ups
appeared on a region-owned laptop. An Information Technology investigation revealed that
the pop-ups appeared to be coming from malicious software on the laptop. The user of the
laptop reported that the behaviour began after clicking a link in a personal email account believed to
be from WestJet. This incident serves as an important reminder that even checking personal email
from a region-owned computer can impact the network and thousands of users. Please use caution
when opening links and remember that work devices are for work purposes only. Information
Management policies can be found on Sharepoint in the Administration Policy and Procedure Manuals.
If you suspect any suspicious activity on a region-owned computer please contact the Information
Systems Help Desk immediately via email ([email protected]).
The region has the ability to monitor internet activity by each user. This activity includes bandwidth
use by user, popups blocked for each user, domains requested by each user, total time spent by each
user, and many other statistics. While these internet statistics aren’t monitored regularly to ‘watch’
specific users, it is important to know that such data is monitored.
The top blocked websites in the region include pop-ups, social media websites, chat rooms, personal
pages, and travel and entertainment websites (see below chart, left).
The top domains, by bandwidth, throughout the region include swiftcurrentonline.com,
youtube.com, cbc.ca, and theweathernetwork.com (see below chart, right). Streaming radio, music,
and/or video on a computer is a significant contributor to bandwidth consumption.
The highest users of time online in the region accummulated more than 64 hours of use and had
more than 15,000 website attempts blocked in a single month.
Most commonly blocked websites, by category
Most bandwidth used, by domain

The United Way Active Play program is a free six-week after-school program that encourages
physical activity and nutritious eating choices among children. The program is offered to all Swift
Current students in grades 1-5. The program invites children to participate in fun activities, giving
them the opportunity to be physically active followed by nutritious snacks and nutrition education
delivered by a Registered Dietitian.
The program has reached 455 students from grades 1-5 in the four elementary schools in Swift
Current. A total of 68 programs have been provided in two years and 100% of the parents who
filled out questionnaires said that they would register their children again.
The United Way Active Play program was developed and is funded by a multi-sector partnership
between the City of Swift Current, the Swift Current United Way, Cypress Health Region, Chinook
School Division, Holy Trinity School Division, and Saskatchewan In Motion. It is only because of
these strong partnerships that this program has been so successful.
