Antifoulings
ANTIFOULINGS
Reformulated Antifoulings from International Paint - What’s New?
International Paint are constantly reviewing upcoming legislation and reformulating their products to ensure they exceed compliance. One such
piece of legislation is the Biocidal Products Directive (98/8/EC, BPD). The BPD will standardise the regulation of antifoulings across the EU.
All current (and new) antifoulings, and the biocides they contain, will be assessed on their risk to both humans and the environment.
International Paint has taken a very proactive role and has worked hard to ensure its customers
will have products that are supported under the BPD. To ensure a fully compliant BPD product
range, some of the antifoulings within the UK range have been reformulated. Significant
investment in Research and Development has been made to ensure the new products are just
as good (or better) than the products they are replacing.
International Antifoulings can be applied direct over most types of antifoulings, provided they are in sound condition.
Unknown antifoulings should be removed using Interstrip AF, or sealed with Primocon. See page 6 for a compatibility chart.

All-purpose polishing antifouling offering one
season’s protection in just one coat.
• One coat per season (after initial 2 coat scheme), offers exceptional
value for money.
• One season’s protection in all but harshest fouling conditions.
• Polishing action ensures that a fresh, active layer of antifouling is
always exposed to the water. This action results in a clean, smooth
hull, minimising friction and drag. The movement of the hull through the water gradually wears
away the coating, preventing leached layer build-up. This reduces surface preparation prior to

INTERZONE 954
A two component, low VOC, high solids, modified
epoxy barrier coat designed to give long term
protection from a single coat application.
It will continue to cure when immersed in water and
has excellent cathodic disbondment resistance.
Interzone 954 was primarily designed for use in
offshore splashzone maintenance, where its
continued cure under immersed conditions make it
ideal for coping with tidal movements & surges.
It may be applied to reoxidised and slightly damp
surfaces and should be mixed in a 4:1 mix by volume.

MATTING ADDITIVES
• Undercoat for one-part finishes
• Excellent opacity allows for easy colour changing
• Long-lasting, easy to apply and rub down
• Long overcoating times allow coat-on-coat application
Matting additives can be added to both International
finishes and varnishes; and depending on the mix
ratio between the product and the additive, a variety
of gloss, satin or matt effects can be achieved.
International produces two types of matting additive,
suitable for use with either the one-part or two-part

A pure white, hollow glass bubble based, low density filler designed for filling

410 Microlight™ Filler
The ideal low-density filler for creating a light, easily-worked fairing
compound especially suited for fairing large areas. Microlight mixes with
greater ease than low density filler or microballoons and is

economical for large fairing jobs. Not recommended under dark paint or

406 Colloidal Silica
A thickening additive used to control the viscosity of the epoxy and
prevent epoxy runoff in vertical & overhead joints. It is a very strong &

423 GRAPHITE POWDER
425 COPPER COMPOUND
A fine black powder added to WEST SYSTEM epoxy
(10% by volume) to produce a low friction exterior
coating with increased scuff resistance, durability and
mar resistant. Epoxy/graphite is commonly used as a
coating on rudders and centreboards, or on the bottoms
of racing craft that are dry sailed.
The epoxy/graphite mix can also be used in teak deck
construction to simulate traditional seams in appearance
and to protect the resin from sunlight.
Can be added to the mixed epoxy to provide a
base coat for conventional bottom paint.
When added to the epoxy at the rate of 80%
by weight, the resultant hard surface increases
the moisture exclusion effectiveness, abrasion
resistance and provides some back up
antifouling properties.
Can be used for any coating application when a
harder surface is required, e.g. coating moulds.

COLOURING ADDITIVES
WEST SYSTEM colour pigments can be added to the epoxy to provide a base
colour for a final finish system. The coloured surfaces also tend to highlight
flaws and imperfections.
Pigments should be added at a rate of approximately 3 to 5 % by weight and
should only be added to the final coat of epoxy because the increased viscosity
of the mix will impair the ability of the epoxy to penetrate and seal surfaces.

Hypalon inflatable boat material for repairing damaged tubes & floors.
Hypalon is a synthetic rubber material patented by DuPont. Hypalon has
many applications in many industries and it has proven itself as a
material with excellent air holding capabilities and oil resistance. Hypalon
coated onto polyester or nylon fabric with an interior coating of neoprene
is a very reliable and durable inflatable boat fabric and can last for more
than a decade even in the harshest environments.
PVC inflatable boat material for repairing damaged tubes & floors.
PVC is a vinyl polymer chemically known as polyvinyl chloride. In the
inflatable boat industry it is used as a coating on polyester or nylon to
increase the strength and tear resistance. Because it is a type of plastic,
it can be thermobonded or glued. This allows the manufacturer to mass
produce boats on a large scale with machines and unskilled labour.

Solvent based polychloroprene rubber glue giving high strength bonds,
particularly suitable for emergency repair of inflatable boats, RIBs and
Dinghies. Will bond natural rubber, polychloroprene, butyl, nitrile ,

Solvent based polyurethane adhesive giving excellent adhesion to both
plasticised and unplasticised PVC nylon fabric, polyurethane fabric and
