New
Educators Appreciation Dinner
Over 30 new Adams County educators
were welcomed to the community and
had a chance to network with their fellow
new educators and businesses within the
community at the New Educator’s Dinner in
mid-September.
The Business and Industry Education
Committee of the Chamber organizes the
annual dinner and this year’s event was
hosted by the Hastings Museum. Educators
were invited by the Hastings Museum to a
special 3D IMAX showing of “Tiny
Giants”. An ice breaker activity
employing the treasure hunt
theme throughout the museum
was an enjoyable and even
competitive event with prizes
that were awarded and donated
by the Hastings Museum,
Downtown Center Association,
Hastings Area Chamber of
Commerce. Educators enjoyed a sponsored
social hour during this time.
An excellent main course of Pecan Smoked
Pork Roast with all the trimmings and a dessert
was catered by Bullseye Sports Bar & Grill with
rave reviews. Over 50 Chamber businesses
contributed to this event by sponsoring the
social hour, dinner costs for the educators or
by providing donations for a bag of coupons
and “goodies” for each new educator to help
welcome them to the community. Thank
you to all those business sponsors and our
Business, Industry, and Education Committee
for a wonderful evening!
Becky Tideman, Museum Marketing Director,
and Russanne Hoff, in charge of education
at the museum, shared a very relevant
presentation on educational opportunities
and partnerships with schools at the
museum. A special section of their website
is dedicated to teachers and can be found at
hastingsmuseum.org/aboutus.
The BIE Committee would like to thank these sponsors and donators for their
contributions to the 2015 New Educators Dinner.

We’ve all probably heard that donating blood saves lives and that there is always a need. But do
your employees contribute? Donating blood is an easy way for your organization to be involved in
a life-saving, valuable community wellbeing activity. Attend this Roundtable and learn from Julie
Schuppan from the American Red Cross how your employees can get involved. Julie will discuss
the need and the process. Hear also from other organizations how they encourage blood donation
by their employees. Attendance is encouraged for those who are interested in learning more
about donation and also by those who
have a program set up, to share with others how the process works in their organization.
Feel free to bring your lunch!
