MEET THE CAST AND CREW
Jackie Allen (Costume Designer) has been involved in theater for the
past 7 years, onstage and backstage. Her previous costume credits
include The Little Mermaid Jr. (Young Footlighters) and Cabaret (ICCT).
She is currently costuming Oliver! (opened April 24, City High) and Hansel
and Gretel (opens May 9, Young Footlighters). She'd like to thank her
husband, Jay, and three sons Nathan, Jackson, and Logan for being so
supportive. Onstage or behind it, Jackie enjoys every part of Theatre.
Emily Basili (Fermina/Gypsy) is ecstatic to be a part of a theater
community again. She's been acting on stage since the age of three. Miss
Basili has held a wide range of roles over the years; from being the Shrew
in The Taming of the Shrew to Robin in Godspell. She has acted in
community theaters, throughout grade school, during her college career
and even dabbled in modeling during her time living in Chicago. Emily
would like to thank her mom for inspiring her to chase her dreams. She is
grateful to be involved with ICCT and hopes you enjoy the show!
Doug Beardsley (Padre) Former competitive ballroom dancer and
performer with the Brigham Young University Ballroom Dance Company,
Doug and his wife, Jill, continues to perform, teach and choreograph in a
variety of venues. Favorite theater roles include Benjamin in 7 Brides for 7
Brothers, Audrey II (puppeteer) in Little Shop of Horrors, Will Parker in
Oklahoma, Wilbur in Hairspray and Rooster in Annie. His favorite dance
roles include Drosselmeyer and Arabian in The Nutcracker. Favorite
choreography credits include Suessical, Children of Eden, Hello Dolly,
Drowsy Chaperone, Cinderella, Wonderful Town, Guys and Dolls,
Oklahoma and Spamalot. Doug is father to 4 boys and grandfather to 7!
By day Doug is the Director of the Johnson County Health Department.
Jill Beardsley (Maria/Gypsy) Jill danced at Diemann/Bennett studios in
Cedar Rapids, Iowa where she trained in ballet and other forms of dance.
She attended BYU and studied and performed with the BYU Ballroom
Dance Co. and met her husband, Doug. Jill has enjoyed her many
opportunities to perform in Iowa City. Favorite performances are Joseph,
Guys and Dolls, 7 Brides, and Kismet. She can also be found
choreographing, and costuming shows. Jill is the mother of 4 boys,
mother-in-law to 4 beautiful girls and grandma to 7 fun grandchildren.
Heidi Bibler (Mule/Gypsy/Prisoner) assures that words cannot express
her endless gratitude and overwhelming joy to be involved in this
incredible production. Heidi is a 5th year senior at the University of Iowa,
majoring in Theatre Arts and Spanish, and studying to receive a Teacher’s
Certificate in Secondary Education. Recent acting credits include Fictional
Murders (Dreamwell), The Passion of Othello (ISE), and The Children’s
Hour (Dreamwell). Special thanks go out to Ana M. Rodriguez for
introducing her to the world of Don Quijote de La Mancha, to her
wonderful family for all their love and support, and to her crazy, beautiful,
incredible friends.
MEET THE CAST AND CREW
Michael Blake (Scenic Designer) has an extensive local resume in set
design designing for several students in the Playwrights Workshop at the
University of Iowa including Thea Cooper and Maggie Conroy thesis
Gracie. Designs for City Circle Acting Company of Coralville productions
include Catchin' the Babies, named best set in the state and regional
AACTFest competition, The Full Monty, Hello Dolly and the premier
production in the new Coralville Center for the Performing Arts, Hairspray,
A Christmas Carol and Spamalot. Michael has also designed On Golden
Pond, Wonderful Town, The Nerd, Gigi, Twelve Angry Men, and Of Mice
and Men with ICCT.
Katie Boothroyd (Gypsy/Prisoner) is a sophomore double major in
Theatre Arts and English at the University of Iowa and originally from
Waukee, Iowa. Previous credits include the dance ensembles of Makeover
(U of Iowa), Cabaret (Iowa City Community Theatre) and Spamalot (City
Circle Acting Co.) Thank you Mom, Dad, family, friends, cast, and crew!

Brett Borden (Director) is a 2009 graduate of Northwest Missouri State
University with an emphasis in Speech/Theater Education. He's lived in
Iowa City for 4 years but only recently discovered the ICCT family and is so
glad he did! His other directing credits include Fool for Love by Sam
Shepard and Peter Cottontail performed last year by the local Footlighters
students. He currently works at the Iowa Children's Museum as an
educator and loves every minute of it. He would like to thank his family,
Jaret (his amazing co-director and best friend), Jessica (where would I be
without you?), Adeara (amazing work!), and this amazing cast who puts
their "impossible dreams" on the line every day for the audience to see.
Adam Burnham (Anselmo) is thrilled to perform in his first show at ICCT!
Originally from Williamsburg, Iowa, and a graduate of St. Ambrose
University, Adam has enjoyed performing roles in Spamalot, Fiddler on the
Roof, Guys and Dolls, West Side Story, Urinetown, The Laramie Project,
Pippin, Narnia, and You Can't Take It With You. A resident of Cedar
Rapids, Adam is employed at KGAN CBS2 & KFXA Fox 28 TV Studios and
assists at College Community Schools. Thanks to all the Little Birds in his
life for their love and support - Friends, family and Princess Leia (his dog).
Sarah Falcon (Housekeeper/Gypsy) is excited to be part of this cast and
back on the stage after taking a few years off from theater. Sarah is a
psychiatry resident completing her final year of training at University of
Iowa Hospital. She likes her day job, but music is her true love. She
considers herself very lucky to have a family who supports her doing both.
Previous musical theater roles include Mary in The Secret Garden and
Marty in Grease. Sarah also plays the violin and the piano and is lead
singer and a songwriter with a local band Sarah Falcon and the Remains.

Celine Se-in Kim (Antonia/Gypsy) is excited to join Man of La Mancha
after a few years of missing musical theatre while cramming Biology and
Speech disorder notes in the library. She is currently in the master's
program of Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Iowa. She is
interested in singing songs in different languages, including French,
Italian, Korean, Chinese, and Turkish. Also, even though English is not
her mother language, she can pull off a bit of British, French, and
Southern accent of English. She thanks Jaret and Brett for giving her an
opportunity to return to musical theatre, and to her fellow cast members
for just being awesome. Also she gives her dearest gratitude to her family,
friends and her Lord God.
Daniel Kunce (Pedro) It's unclear when Daniel first caught the acting bug,
but it wasn't diagnosed until after High School. In his hometown of
Burlington, IA, he feverishly consumed many roles, large and small
including The Prince in Cinderella and Danny Zuko in Grease. Since
moving to Iowa City to attend the University, Daniel's focus shifted to the
most difficult acting challenge of his life: a for-serious-adult. As a result he
married the best woman ever and now has a super cool baby girl. He
returns to the theater now to confront the mad knight that challenged his
heart to dream.
Nick LaFayette (Juan) This is Nick's first time performing with Iowa City
Community Theatre. He would like to thank his family, friends, and pets
for being so supportive. Nick enjoys reading, playing games, cooking and
going to concerts and music festivals. This summer he plans to spend a
lot of time at the dog park and the disc golf courses.
Kehry Anson Lane (Cervantes/Don Quixote) holds a BA in Theatre Arts
from the University of Iowa. Over the past decade, he has worked as an
actor and director for many local theatre groups. He was last seen on the
ICCT stage as El Gallo in The Fantasticks (September 2012). Kehry is
also a founding member and the Production Director of Fourth Room
Theatre. He is honored to perform with this fine cast. Kehry would like to
thank Brett, Jaret, Jessica, his family and friends (especially his wife,
Rachel) for their unending love and support.
Heather Michele Lawler (Aldonza) is excited to be back at the ICCT barn
for the first time since 2001 (Lily St. Regis-Annie). Heather has performed
everywhere from New York City, Chicago, Riverside Theatre (most
recently as Louise in Marion Bridge) and in far away Perth, Australia (April
in Company). This summer you can catch Heather as Bianca in Othello
with Riverside Theatre in the Park. In the Fall she will be pursuing her
MFA in Acting in the prestigious training program at Indiana University.

Adeara Jean Maurice (Stage Manager) is a graduate of Cornell College
and hopes to pursue grad school in Drama Therapy. Though this is her
first time working with ICCT she has stage managed for City Circle,
Cornell College and Riverside Theatre. In addition to stage management
she also dabbles in directing, sound design and sometimes even acting!
She hopes you enjoy the show and that you dream the impossible dream!
Jaret Morlan (Director) attended The American Academy of Dramatic
Arts in New York City and holds a BA in Theater from the University of
Iowa. Jaret has been privileged to work as a Director and Actor locally/
across Iowa for over 25 years. His previous directing credits include Tale
of the Allergist's Wife (City Circle), Noises Off (CC Stoplight) and Desert
Pepper (UI). He is delighted and honored to have directed this fine cast
and expresses a special thanks to Brett for this "crazy idea" of
co-directing, his "steadfast rock," Leah and their boys, Toby and Milo, for
being "everything that matters."
Jacques Motyko (Jose) is looking forward to seeing what the dark
prisons of the Spanish Inquisition have in store for him. His previous roles
this year include a Nazi, a Jesus killer, and now a seedy criminal. One of
these days he would love to do a light romantic comedy.
Larry Newman (Sancho Panza) was last seen in ICCT's production of
The Fantasticks. Other local productions include Jesus Christ Superstar,
Urinetown and Guys and Dolls. In his much younger days he made a
living by performing in regional and professional musical theater
productions around the country and is a graduate of the Los Angeles
American Center of Musical Theater Workshop.
Colin Nies (Dr. Carrasco/ The Duke) is pleased to be appearing on stage
for the first time in almost 2 years. He was last seen as Sky Masterson in
Guys and Dolls (City Circle) and as Phil Davis in White Christmas (ICCT).
He has recently taken some time off from theatre to focus on his
wonderful family and is proud to be the father of a beautiful daughter
Freya. He would like to thank his wife for helping put her to bed each night
and for her encouragement and support during this show.
Jessica Palmer (Music Director) attended the University of Iowa and
received a BA in Music from the University of Iowa. Jessica has worked
as a trumpet player in the Iowa City area for several years, most recently
heard in Spamalot (City Circle) and Oklahoma (ICCT).This is Jessica's
first production on the other side of the baton. She is so excited to work
with such an incredible cast and crew, musicians, and directors Brett and
Jaret. Thank you to friends, family, and all the local musicians that have
helped her survive music directing her first show!
Josh Sazon (Governor/InnKeeper) has worked on too many shows in the
area, both onstage and off.

Glen Schmitz (Captain of the Inquisition/Paco) is once again thrilled to be
working with Iowa City Community Theatre. Glen has appeared in several
recent productions as the nice guy, this time he is not nice at all. Much
thanks to Brett, Jaret and Jessica for this opportunity. And special thanks
to his wonderful spouse and family for their unending love and support.
Scott K. Strode (Barber) retired after 34 years at Manchester University,
Indiana, as Director of Theatre. Scott has acted professionally with the
Indianapolis Shakespeare Festival, the Indiana Repertory Theatre,
Midsummer Mime Company, the Enchanted Hills Playhouse, and Wagon
Wheel Theatre. Iowa City acting credits include roles with Dreamwell
Theatre, ICCT, City Circle Acting Co, Fourth Room Theatre, and UI
Theatre. Directing credits include The Crucible for Dreamwell and Steel
Magnolias for ICCT. What an honor to be a part of this great cast.
Audrey Thompson-Wallace (Horse/Gypsy/Prisoner) is happy to be on
the stage again. The daughter of actress Kathlyn Carroll and ballet master
Basil Thompson, Audrey's performance talents range from ballet to
various circus acts including (but not limited to) fire breathing. She is a
graduate from the University of Iowa with a BA in Theatre and a BA in
Psychology. Since then, she has become an in-studio producer at KXIC
radio and has acted, directed, and stage managed. Her most recent
onstage roles include The Ghost of Christmas Past in City Circle's A
Christmas Carol and Friar Lawrence in ICCT's Romeo & Juliet.
Taylor Wyatt (Gypsy Girl/Prisoner) is currently a third-year Anthropology
student at the University of Iowa. She is thrilled to participate in her first
musical in the state of Iowa. Her previous performances in Los Angeles
include Isabelle in Rabbit Hole and Zaneeta Shinn in The Music Man. She
expresses her gratitude and appreciation of this wonderful cast and crew,
and looks forward to continuing theatre with this community.

Steve's role in this production is certainly the least flashy, most
discreet, and most thankless in the entire production. As the Board
Representative for "Man of La Mancha," Steve coordinated
auditions, acted as middle man for communication with committees
and board members, spent countless hours assisting with set
building/light design, and acted as advisor, cheerleader and voice
of reason. And that is not even everything. Many people dedicated
hours to make this show what it is, but Steve deserves far, far more
credit than he gets. From all of us Steve, Thank You so much; "La
Mancha" would not have been the same without you.
DIRECTORS’ NOTES
My relationship with Man of La Mancha began pretty early with
two specific memories. My very first exposure to the musical
classic was in an episode of my favorite TV Show ever,
"Quantum Leap," where in Scott Bakula's character is thrust into
the role of Cervantes/Don Quixote without any knowledge of his
lines or the play. The music and the characters of the play
fascinated me...rather than purchasing the soundtrack to the
play however, I listened to the Quantum Leap soundtrack over
and over. Prior to this production, when I thought of this music, I
heard Bakula's voice.
The second memory is that, due to my newly found love, I
begged my folks to take me to the local community theater's
production of La Mancha and it would be the first time I ever
heard the full music or learned the actual story of the play (and
the play within the play). It also marks the very first time I was
emotionally affected by a theatrical performance; the eleven year
old in the front row crying his eyes out. It’s this moment that
would lead me down a long path of acting in high school, the
AADA in New York, and to the U of I, where I would not only
earn my Theater degree, but also find my true love, Directing. I'll
leave the rest for you to fill in the gaps, but when Brett Borden
asked me to co-direct Man of La Mancha, it just seemed like it
was meant to be; my theatrical journey had come full circle.
This influenced my personal vision greatly. It was very important
to me that we show this story for what it is: a play within a play.
The themes of this musical are vast and powerful, but few are as
prominent as hope, decency, love, and art. Yes, art. Cervantes is
an artist and he uses it not only to create but to argue, to defend,
to live. He uses it to inspire, to involve, to change. He gives hope
and empathy and love to the apathetic and loveless. In the very
depths of despair, he teaches them hope...through art...through
a play. To take away the play and simply split the story into
prison/fantasy would have been an injustice to the show and to
its very theatricality. Through this production, Brett and I strive to
honor the story, the characters, and most importantly, the play
within the play. It is with sincerest gratitude that we thank you for
coming and we hope you enjoy Man of La Mancha.

DIRECTORS’ NOTES
I first came to Man of La Mancha in college when I saw a
production at the University of Nebraska Omaha. I was so
inspired by the plight of Cervantes and his ability to inspire the
prisoners to action through his simple play. Through his story
we learn not only about what it means to never give up on our
hopes and "impossible dreams" that we all share and to strive
towards something better.
I knew that eventually one day I wanted to do this show but had
no idea that the proposition would come so soon - this show is
an impossible dream for me and I want to thank anyone and
everyone who has been a part of it. To Jaret, who I first brought
this crazy idea to and who immediately said yes without
blinking. Your ability to translate your passion to the cast inspires me every day and I can't imagine doing this with anyone
else.
Through our shared vision we have created something special
and I feel honored to have been a part of it. To the audience:
Be Cervantes...the dreamer...strive toward your goals and never
give up hope, no matter the odds. Enjoy the show!

25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
Six young people in the throes of puberty,
overseen by grown-ups who barely managed to
escape childhood themselves, learn that winning
isn't everything and that losing doesn't
necessarily make you a loser. A 2005 Broadway
hit and winner of 2 Tony Awards.
Brigadoon
Lerner and Loewe's classic Broadway musical is a
Scottish fantasy that involves a love story in a
town that disappears into the Highland mist and
returns for only one day every 100 years.
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
Tennessee Williams' play about the conflict
between truth and illusion. Winner of the 1955
Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
Love & Marriage
A collection of four one-act plays showing the
funnier sides of love and marriage.
The Man Who Came to Dinner
A Kaufman and Hart comedy about a pompous
man who breaks his hip leaving dinner at a
friend's home and terrorizes the friend's family
and house staff during his recovery.
A collaboration with Combined Efforts Theatre
CET is Iowa's only theatre company whose
mission is to purposefully include performers
with disabilities. CET is dedicated to excellence
where disability drops from consideration. CET
enriches the artistic community of Iowa City by
presenting compelling and entertaining
performances.

CONTRIBUTIONS
Proceeds from ticket sales provide less than half of the operating
budget of ICCT. We are a non-profit organization and can always use
your help! Your contribution is tax-deductible (minus the value of
tickets) and helps to keep our ticket prices low to improve accessibility
to the general community. In this way, we can help people come
together to celebrate the excitement of live theatre.

MEMBERSHIP
You can become a member of the ICCT family for a fee of $10/yr.,
which gives you voting rights at our meetings, newsletters and other
mailings, and advance information about shows and events related to
the ICCT.
SPONSORSHIP
We can help your business get broader exposure in Iowa City and
Johnson County. This is usually done by advertising in our playbills,
but can also be by sponsorship of shows, elements of shows, or
specific actors.
VOLUNTEERS
We are always in need of new and interested individuals for help at the
community theatre in a number of different capacities: acting, directing,
back stage, and at the front of the house.
