Our Annual Business Dinner was successful as always. Over
300 members attended the event that was held at the Desert
Diamond. The Green Valley Fire presented the Colors and
Trinan Verwys sang the National Anthem. Regina Ford and

MICHAEL BARTOLETTI, Director
Michael has been living and working in the
Green Valley area since he fell in love with the wide
open spaces, the desert landscape, mountains and
weather and moved here in 1977 from Brooklyn,
NY. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical
Engineering from the University of Arizona.
Michael has worked for Green Valley Cooling &
Heating / Southwest Solar for the past 30 years,
working his way up from maintenance technician
to V.P. of Operations. He played an integral role
in the company's growth and the development of
new products and services. He has served on the
Valley Assistance Services Board of Directors and
is currently on their Financial Committee. He
has been involved in fund raising events for VAS,
including Bowling for Friends, Empty Bowls and
several galas. Michael is excited about participating
on the Green Valley Sahuarita Chamber of
Commerce's Board of Directors.
GARY BRASHER, Vice Chairman
Gary is a fifth generation native Arizonan and
has been actively engaged in Real Estate Brokerage,
Development and Building for over 30 years. Now
with Russ Lyon/Sothby's International Real Estate
- The Brasher Team, Gary is an Associate Broker
working throughout the 1-19 Corridor from
Sahuarita to Nogales AZ. Gary has served as Past
President of the Tubac Chamber of Commerce and
the Santa Cruz Valley Citizens Council. Currently
he is on the Governors Groundwater Users
Advisory Board, serves as Co-chair of the Arizona/
Mexico Commission Real Estate Committee and
is on the Board of Directors of the Green Valley
Sahuarita Chamber of Commerce. "Helping
businesses thrive is a major focus and I would be
honored to help reach the goal through the venue
of the Chamber" says Gary.
KIM DEMARCO, Director
Kim has lived in Green Valley since 2005, where
she is currently the Branch Manager of Sunstreet
Mortgage and a licensed mortgage professional.
She was a 12 year member of the Chamber with
Russ DeMarco Upholstery and is now a 1 1/2 year
member with Sunstreet Mortgage. She is a retired
Arizona State Police Officer and a former United
States Marine. As a police officer she supervised
gang and narcotics operations involving numerous
police agencies. Kim has served as a board member
with the Arizona Police Athletic Federation and the
American Business Women's' Association and as a
member of the Green Valley Marine Corps League,
plus working on committees with various organizations. She spends much of her free time mentoring
teenagers. With a major in Business Administration
from San Diego State and an Emergency Medical
Certification from Weatherford College in Weatherford TX, Kim feels her education and knowledge
of law enforcement, real estate and business will be
an asset to the Chamber and the community.

LARRY KEMPTON, Chairman
Larry Kempton is an Arizona native. He was
born in Tucson during the time that his family
lived on a ranch in Amado, and he has lived in
Green Valley since 2003. Larry has a Bachelor
in Science degree cum laude in Agriculture
Communications from the University of Wyoming.
His work experience includes agribusiness and
agriculture. He worked for the American Jersey
Cattle Association for 10 years, and he and his
family operated a dairy farm in Vermont for several
years. Larry was also a Town Administrator in
Vermont for 7 years. Larry worked as Community
Relations Manager for the Farmers Investment Co.
in Sahuarita for two years. In 2011, they started
their own business, Homewatch CareGivers of
Green Valley, providing non-medical home care
in Sahuarita, Green Valley, and the entire Santa
Cruz Valley. They received the Chamber's award
for New Business of the Year in 2012. Larry is the
Secretary for the Valle Verde Rotary and Treasurer
of the Valley Assistance Services Board of Directors.
He is also an active member of the Desert Hills
Lutheran Church. Larry is proud to serve as
Chairman for the Green Valley Sahuarita Chamber
of Commerce's Board of Directors.
ANITA VALENCIA, Treasurer
As of last month, Anita has embarked in a new
career and is now working for Sunstreet Mortgage,
LLC located on Duval Mine Road and La Canada
as a Loan Officer Assistant. She is currently studying to obtain her Mortgage Loan Originators
License to become a Loan Officer. Her prior career
was in the retail banking for 35 years, holding various position with the last 7 years here in Green
Valley as a Branch Manager of Bank of the West
and a few months with Bank of America as their
Banking Center Manager. She is a native Tucsonan,
married with two grown married children and 5
wonderful grandchildren. While she may still live
in Tucson, Anita works, shops and has been involved in this community since 2007. It is through
her association with American Business Women's
Association (ABWA) that she is being sponsored for
her current position as the Treasurer of the Chamber. She is currently the President of the local Valle
Verde Charter Chapter (a Non -Profit Service Organization) and has been a member for the past 6
years holding various board positions for 4 of those
years, and with the honor of being named Woman
of the Year for 2010-2011. She is also currently on
the Advisory Council for Casa Community Services
(formerly Casa de Esperanza where she was on
their Executive Board as Treasurer for 3 years) by
La Posada. She has been involved with the Green
Valley/Sahuarita Chamber of Commerce since
2009 through the Events Committee, previously
Co-Chairing the Economic Development Committee. This is her second term as a Board Member/

The chamber was very proud and pleased to hand
out over $15,000 in scholarships to our local students.
The money was generously donated by the owner of
the Best Western Hotel in Green Valley.
Also on the agenda was the announcement of the
winners of the Businesses of the Year.

Valenzuela, one of our Chamber Board
members, who received a plaque from
the Sahuarita Unified School District for
his leadership and initiative in building an
education/business coalition.
• The Chamber is excited by the response
to our new Breakfast Mixers. The lastest
one was held on May 8 and was hosted by
Casa Community Services. The group of 36
attendees met our new Board Chairman, Larry
Kempton, and enjoyed the networking and
good food. We are moving these breakfasts
from Thursday to Friday every other month...
our next Breakfast will be July 11 at the
Continental Plaza Community Room. Hope to
see you there. By the way...there is no charge.
• The Town of Sahuarita has received the first
Timothy M. Ahrens Partnering Award for
the Sahuarita Road Project. This award was

and partnering required to make this project

TOM MURPHY, Director
Tom is the Community Liaison for the master-planned community's Rancho Sahuarita and Rancho Resort. He represents approximately 5,000 homeowners comprising 15,000 residents, about
half the population of the Town of Sahuarita. Additionally, Rancho
Sahuarita has currently developed over 200,000 square feet of commercial development. Future development will cover a 400-acre Town
Center supporting 2.7 million square feet of retail, office, hotel,
medical, employment and municipal uses. He will analyze, think,
and act in a way that gains the trust and respect of his teammates on
projects he works on. He has been reelected for the second time to the
Sahuarita Unified School District Governing Board. As a member of
the Board he is responsible for over 5,200 students, 650 employees
and manages a $27 million -plus budget. He was a major participant
in the recently filmed "Today in America" advertising video, for the
combined Green/Valley and Sahuarita area. Tom and Rancho Sahuarita were also Platinum Sponsors at the highly successful "State of the
Town" luncheon sponsored by the Chamber and MPA. Combining
his past experiences while serving his country, during his 21 years in
the United States Air Force, with his most -recent work history with
Rancho Sahuarita and his passion for education, as a Governing Board
Member. He is excited about the opportunity to serve the community
as a Director on the Green Valley-Sahuarita Chamber of Commerce.
CARL SMITH, Chairman Elect
Carl founded Acra Construction LLC in 2003. Acra is a dually
licensed residential and commercial General Contractor specializing
in repairs, remodel, additions, and insurance repairs. Recently, Carl
moved Acra from a home-based business to a newly acquired facility at 880 W. Camino Casa Verde in Green Valley. At this location,
Carl has opened a "one stop shop" Design Showroom offering a full
line of cabinetry, counter tops, and flooring. Under Carl's direction,
Acra has won two consecutive first place trophies in the commercial
division of the Country Fair White Elephant Parade. Also, Acra
previously won the Chamber's Home Based Business of the Year.
Through Acra, Carl has donated routinely to local charitable events.
Carl's prior experience includes executive positions with General
Contractors in the fields of insurance repair, apartment renovations,
condo conversions, developing, and public works. Also, Carl has been
a Controller for two major nonprofits. Carl grew up originally on a
farm and small town environment in Indiana. He holds a Masters in
Business Administration from LaVerne University in California and a
Bachelors of Science in Accounting from Arizona State University.
MANUEL VALENZUELA, Director
Dr. Valenzuela is currently the Superintendent of the 5,200
student-Sahuarita Unified School District, Dr. Valenzuela served for
five years as the Assistant Superintendent prior to becoming the new
superintendent on July 1, 2010 During his time as Assistant Superintendent responsible for curriculum, instruction, and standards, all
schools have achieved federal and state accountability measures. Dr.
graduating as class valedictorian in 1984. He has been inducted into
the Flowing Wells Alumni Hall of Fame and the Athletic Hall of
Fame. In 2002, Dr. Valenzuela completed the Doctor of Education
Degree (Ed.D.) at the University of Arizona. Previously, Dr. Valenzuela earned a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership
from the Northern Arizona University (1993) and a Bachelor of
Science (B.S.) degree with a major in chemistry from the University
of Arizona (1988). In 1998, Dr. Valenzuela was the first educator
in Arizona to be notified of being selected to receive the prestigious
Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award. At this time,
he was Principal of Walter Douglas Elementary School in Tucson's
Flowing Wells Unified School District. In September 2008, Dr.
Valenzuela and SUSD were featured in the American School Board
Journal regarding the District's meeting challenges in providing excellence in education and managing topics related to immigration and
border issues. Currently, Dr. Valenzuela serves on the Governor's
Commission for Postsecondary Education and the State Board of
Education Certification Advisory Committee. Dr. Valenzuela is an
adjunct professor in the Educational Leadership Department at the
College of Education, University of Arizona. He also serves on the
Professional Preparation Board (PPB) at UA, and its corresponding
Executive Committee. Dr. Valenzuela is a native Tucsonan and lives
there with his wife and two daughters.
TIM CAMPBELL, Secretary
Tim Campbell is the project manager for the Sahuarita Farms Land
and River Master Plan. Tim manages the planning and entitlement
processes in the Town of Sahuarita and Pima county, as well as the
development and promotion of the project. Tim is the primary local
community contact for information about Sahuarita Farms.
Tim has over 28 years of experience as a develper, urban planner
and real estate development consultant. He is particularly interested
in creating a sustainable local and regional economy, promoting small
business growth and positioning the greater Green Valley/ Sahuarita
area to capitalize on the economic opportunities suited to the area’s
needs and desires.
Tim graduated from the university of Idaho and Texas A&M
University, and is a near native having lived in the state for over 28
years.
