Rural/Metro Fire Department crews will begin
providing fire and emergency response services out
of Station 82, the provider’s northern Sahuarita
station, in early August. Located on Rancho
Sahuarita Boulevard and Avenida del Aguacate,
Station 82 will serve the northern corridor of
Sahuarita, reducing response times to that area. A
single station, Station 79 in the Sahuarita Town
Center, currently serves all of Rancho Sahuarita,
including area businesses and schools.

USA Youth Sports Opens Fall Registration
It’s that time of year again! Schools are starting back up and parents are looking for activities
for their children. One popular option is USA Youth Sports. Kids can play one of the
following sports: baseball/tee ball, flag football, basketball or soccer. USA Youth Sports
is a recreational, family friendly Sahuarita-based nonprofit organization. USA is open to
children as young as 3 yrs old and up to 13 yrs old. All teams are co-ed. The season runs
from the beginning of September through Thanksgiving.

Five Things to Know Before Applying
for a Home Loan
Getting approved for a mortgage can be daunting,
especially if you don’t know what to expect and what
lenders are looking for. The good news, according
to Tom Heath, Rancho Sahuarita resident and

Home Loans, is that mortgage lending can be
boiled down to some basic rules of thumb and
common sense behaviors. Below are Tom’s tips

The number of homes served by Station 82 will be
optimized through a series of tests and computer
modeling. “There will be a defined area in our
dispatch system creating what is known as a ‘first
due’ for the new station,” says Cesarek. “The area
will be based on response times suggested by our
computer system and tested in trial runs. The great
thing with two stations is that if we need to adjust
things, we can, and public safety will always be
ensured.”
“This is a community station, and tours are
available of Station 79 currently, and will be for 82.
These are iconic structures in the community and
we want everyone to enjoy them,” says Cesarek.
Unlike areas within the City of Tucson, Sahuarita
residents do not pay for fire and emergency
response services in their property taxes. Fire
protection is provided on a per-household
subscription basis. Rural/Metro Fire Department
is the fire and emergency service provider for
the northern portion of the Town of Sahuarita,
including all of Rancho Sahuarita. Service with
Rural/Metro is established through an annual
subscription. For more information or to purchase

In addition to emergency response services, Rural/
Metro will hold open houses and safety education
events at the new station. A similar event at Station
79 drew great attendance in February, and Cesarek
anticipates community events will be held more
regularly at both sites.
An official grand opening and ceremonial flag raise
at the new station is planned for mid-September.
Visitors can expect a barbecue and tour of the
station and equipment. Organizers also plan to
introduce the firefighters who will be assigned to
the new station. Residents are welcome to take
tours of Station 82 at other times, as well.

moon was known by early Native American tribes as
the Full Sturgeon Moon because the large sturgeon
fish of the Great Lakes and other major lakes were
more easily caught at this time of year. This is also
the closest and largest Moon of the year, known as
the “supermoon” by the media.

The Perseids is one of the best meteor showers to
observe, producing up to 60 meteors per hour at
its peak. It is produced by the comet Swift-Tuttle,
which was discovered in 1862. The Perseids are
famous for producing a large number of bright
meteors. The shower runs annually from July 17 to
August 24. It peaks this year on the night of August
12 in to the morning of August 13. Although the
moon will be bright, the meteors should be bright

Your Legacy is in Your Hands
Unless you keep close track of obscure holidays
and observances, you probably didn’t know that
August is “What Will Be Your Legacy? Month.”
Still, you might want to use this particular month
as a useful reminder to take action on what could
be one of your most important financial goals:
leaving a meaningful legacy.
A legacy isn’t simply a document or a bunch of
numbers — it’s what you will be remembered
for, and what you have left behind that will be
remembered. It’s essentially your chance to
contribute positively to the future, whether that
means providing financial resources for the next
generation, helping those charitable organizations
whose work you support, or a combination of
both.
To create your legacy, you’ll need to do some
planning. And you can start by asking yourself a
couple of key questions:
What are your goals? When you think about
leaving a legacy, what comes to mind? First and
foremost, you may well want to leave enough
money to help your own grown children meet
their financial goals. After that, you probably have
other things you’d like to accomplish. Perhaps you
want to provide resources for your grandchildren
to attend college? Or set up a scholarship at your
own alma mater? Give financial support to a
cultural, social, religious or scientific group? By
thinking about your goals and putting them on
paper, even in an informal sense, you’ll be taking
the important first step in leaving the legacy you
desire.
How can you turn your goals into reality? If you
don’t take some concrete steps, your legacy just
won’t materialize. And the most important step
you need to take is to create a comprehensive
estate plan. Your estate plan can be quite involved,
because it may involve several legal documents,
such as a will, living trust, health care power of
attorney, and so on. In creating these materials,
you will need to work with your legal and tax
advisors because estate planning is definitely not
a “do-it-yourself” endeavor.
You probably shouldn’t wait until you are deep
into retirement to take action on your estate plan
because developing the necessary documents and
arrangements can take a fair amount of time —
and you’ll want to make these preparations when
you’re in good mental and physical health. Also,
the longer you wait to set up your estate plan, the
less likely it will be that you’ve communicated
your wishes clearly to your family members, who
may end up unsure about what you want and
what their roles are in carrying out your plans—
and that’s an outcome you certainly don’t want
to see.
In fact, clear communications are essential to
developing a successful estate plan. You should
not only tell your family members — and anyone
else affected by your estate plan — what you are
thinking of doing but also inform them about
the professionals with whom you are working and
the locations in which you are storing any vital
documents, such as your will.
By identifying your goals, working with the
appropriate professionals to create an effective
estate plan, and communicating regularly with
your family members and other “key players” in
your life, you can go a long way toward leaving the
legacy you desire.
So, do what it takes to launch that legacy.

Fun Summer Cooking
Creamy Peach Pie
Directions:
Ingredients:
In a microwave safe measuring cup, heat water for 90 seconds until boiling. Whisk in
Jell-O until dissolved.
¼ cup water
1 0.3-oz package of peach Jell-O
2 6 oz containers of peach yogurt
1 8 oz tub cool whip
1 premade graham cracker crust
In a large bowl, whisk together Jell-O mixture and yogurt. Fold in cool whip.
Spread in crust. Refrigerate at least 4 hours or until set.
If desired top with cool whip and fresh peach slices.
Broccoli Salad
Directions:
Ingredients:
In a small bowl, combine mayo, apple cider vinegar, sugar, salt and pepper.
1 head broccoli (cut into bite size pieces)
6 slices of bacon (cooked and crumbled)
¼ cup red onion (finely chopped)
8 oz cheddar cheese (cut into tiny cubes or shredded)
½ cup cherry tomatoes (cut in halves)
¾ cup mayo
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons sugar
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon pepper
In a large bowl, toss together bite sized broccoli pieces, bacon, red onion, cheese and
tomatoes.
Combine the dressing with broccoli mixture.
Cover and leave in the refrigerator for at least two hours.
Watermelon-Tequila Cocktail
Directions:
Ingredients:
In a small saucepan dissolve sugar in the water to create a simple syrup.
¼ cup water
¼ cup sugar
8 cups diced seedless watermelon
¼ cup fresh lime juice
1 ¾ cups blueberries
¾ cup lightly packed fresh mint leaves
1 ¼ cup silver tequila
Ice
In a blender puree the watermelon until smooth. Using a mesh strainer, strain over a
bowl to discard the pulp.
In a large pitcher, combine the syrup with the lime juice, blueberries and mint leaves.
Using a wooden spoon, lightly muddle the blueberries and mint.
Add the watermelon juice and tequila. Refrigerate until chilled.
Pour into a cocktail glass filled with ice. Garnish with mint leaves if desired.
