OCTOBER 2014
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
By: Harold Goldberg
Before I move on to the business of community news and events, my highest
priority is to extend my deepest gratitude to the many friends (more than I knew)
that were there to support me as I mourned the great loss of my beloved Gloria.
Through their competence and cooperation among one another, my Management Team kept everything
running smoothly during my absence. But more than that, their genuine sincerity and ongoing concern
during this period gave me hope and the strength to move forward. I owe a debt of gratitude to
Wynmoor’s Administration as well. Volunteering their assistance in all possible ways greatly eased the
immediate burden for me and my family.
As I strive to adjust to a life that will never be the same, I continue to be grateful to all of you that are
here for me – my Wynmoor family.
I’m making every effort to get back into a rhythm and concentrate on my role as your Council President,
a role I take seriously and never for granted.
Now that the Budget Workshops are over and the Executive Committee has reviewed and
recommended the 2015 proposed Budget, all that remains to complete the process is approval from the
Board of Directors. They will vote on the issue at the October 2014 Board of Directors meeting
scheduled on Thursday, October 2nd at 1:30 PM in the West Wing; all residents are welcome to attend.
As always, be assured that management has devoted a good deal of time and planning into the
production of this budget. The ultimate goal is to coordinate and condense the numbers making every
effort to minimize cost with no compromise in service or property maintenance. All of us are fortunate
in that our managerial staff is both competent and considerate of our resident population. They
understand that many of us are on fixed incomes and always keep that in mind during budget
preparation.
Football Season is back! And what a great opportunity, made possible by our Recreation Department!
They have arranged for not one, but 2 separate chances to check out our Miami Dolphins at a home
game in Sun Life Stadium. The first game is scheduled on Sunday, October 12th against the Green Bay
Packers. Wynmoor Transportation will have a bus waiting at Tract 1000; departure time is 11:00 AM for
a 1:00 PM kickoff. Your ticket, which includes transportation costs is a very reasonable $65.00!
If you can’t make that game, or on the chance it is sold out, you may want to consider the Dolphins
versus the Baltimore Ravens. This game is scheduled on Sunday, December 7th at 1:00 PM. Once
again, transportation via Wynmoor bus is included in the price of the ticket. The higher cost of $84.00
is due to the fact these tickets are for lower level seating as opposed to upper level for the Green Bay
game.
Summer’s over and so is the $5.00 theatre ticket. Although the price is higher now, the entertainment
offered is top notch and remains a great value. As we move further into the height of the ‘season’,
we’ve got quite a few well known headliners scheduled to perform. For example, you may want tickets
for Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr. or how about Gary Puckett and the Union Gap? Mary’s got some
great Fine Arts performances scheduled as well. Gloria and I shared many great evenings at the
Theatre and I’m wondering whether I might be coaxed into going once again. Right now, it’s one day at
a time for me, but it is possible that I might see you there.

A D M I N I S T R AT O R ’ S M E S S A G E
By: Bruce Bandler
I’m sure that many of you have realized of late that the friendly face of our long time Security
Director John Guisti has been absent from the landscape. After many years of service to the
community during which Mr. Guisti contributed greatly to the overall improvement and efficient
operation of the department, he has made the difficult decision to retire from his position here. In
essence, John’s job was 24/7; quite often he would be called during the night and although not
required to, his conscientious demeanor would bring him back to the property.
During his tenure, John developed and maintained an excellent rapport with the Police Department of the City of
Coconut Creek and through his efforts, in conjunction with our Security Department, they began to offer a
monthly ‘Roundtable” Crime Prevention Talk to better educate our residents on keeping themselves safe. They
also agreed to periodically provide us with their portable radar ‘speed monitor’ to assist in the difficult task of
deterring unlawful speeding around the Circle.
John was well respected by his loyal staff as well as by the residents of the community he served. His knowledge
in all facets of security continued to grow as he worked his way through the ranks. Always approachable and
accommodating, John will be sorely missed by all of us. Thankfully, we are most confident that his great
contribution will continue in place as Oneil Elliott takes over the reins as the new Director of Security. Oneil has,
fortunately, gained a good deal of knowledge and professional training directly from his former mentor, John
Guisti.
Best of luck to John Guisti in his retirement as well as to Oneil Elliott as both these fine men respectively assume
their new phase in life and in career.
Sadly, we’ve lost another good friend; Selma Hellman, one of the last of the Wynmoor pioneers. The face of
friendly optimism; no matter the circumstances, her glass was always half full. In the many years I knew Selma I
was in awe of her active lifestyle. From her golfing, to her swimming, to her walking the Circle in the early
morning hours, she was always on the go. Even as she began to experience difficulty, her positive attitude and
commitment to community did not falter. Association President for Lucaya I as well as Council Representative for
numerous years, her meeting attendance record was nearly perfect and her ability to communicate with her
constituents was exemplary. Selma was a true and loyal friend and I will miss her greatly.
Renovation of the 15th hole at the golf course is complete. This project was necessary as the steep incline at the
site made it difficult if not impossible for golfers to reach the tee. The end result is a complete new design with
greatly improved access and beautiful landscaping. Under the direct supervision of the talented Darryl Rejko,
Wynmoor’s Golf Superintendent, the project was a great success. We are extremely pleased that this community
continues to enjoy a policy that addresses the needs of the residents as well as the maintenance and improvement
of the property.
Good news about FLOOD INSURANCE – Unlike our Master Policy, flood insurance is issued on an individual
building basis. Although the majority of buildings were removed from ‘hazard’ areas in the past, the newly
revised ‘Flood Insurance Rate Map’, clearly indicates that no Wynmoor property is currently considered to be in a
hazardous flood zone! What does this mean to you? Flood Insurance is no longer mandatory. Building policies
(all of which expired on September 1st) were not renewed. This action will be realized as a small reduction in
your monthly maintenance payment. If you continue to receive lender requests for proof of flood insurance, you
may obtain a ‘Certification’ letter issued by the City of Coconut Creek’s Engineering Department from my office.
Of course, for those of you that live on the first floor, you may wish to purchase a policy that covers your
individual unit. This is a personal decision, and many unit owners choose this option for their own peace of mind.
Celebrate Halloween at our annual Costume Party in the Grand Ballroom; the party starts at 7:00 PM.Tickets are
$7.00 and include music, dancing, refreshments and a costume contest for prizes!
