On! August! 17! many! Limnos! visited! Erken! to! participate! in! a!
daylong! activities! on! site! and! advance! their! knowledge! about!
the!history,!current!developments,!and!research!potential!of!the!
Erken! Station.! Following! an! introduction! from! Kurt,! Silke! and!
Don,! Limnos! visited! the! inlet,! flux! tower,! buoyXsensor,! and! YSI!
profiling!float!where!William,!Jovana!and!Don!gave!an!overview!
of! the! sophisticated! monitoring! equipment.! In! addition,!
everyone! participated! in! the! search! for! invertebrates! X! an!
activity!commonly!offered!to!the!kids!during!the!Erken’s!Water!
days.!
!
Those!who!arrived!to!Erken!a!day!earlier!enjoyed!swimming!in!
the! lake!and,!since!the! water! temperature!was!very!Swedish,!a!
sauna!later!on.!!

the! EU! BONUS! INSPIREOproject! to!

sympatric!flounderOecotypes.!In!connection!with!this,!
two! studentOthesis! were! conducted:! Isa) Wallin!
studied! the! potential! for! hybridization! between! the!
ecotypes!

survey! aiming! to! compare! egg! survival! probabilities!

habitat! preferences! of! perch! in! a! restored! streamO

preferences,! food! choice! and! population! structure! in!
the! invasive! round! goby! (Neogobius0 melanostomus),!
recently! found! off! Gotland,! potentially! affecting! the!
Baltic!Sea!fish!community.!!
Anders) Hargeby!from!the!Lund!University!stayed!at!
the! station! while! sampling! water! louse,! Asellus0
aquaticus,! at! different! locations! in! the! northern!
Gotland.!
In! August! Isa) Wallin! and! Jennie) Ljungberg! were!
sampling! 0Ogroup! flounder! within! the! INSPIRE!
project!to!reveal!the!settling!period!and!dispersion!of!
the! respective! ecotype,! aiming! to! be! the! basis! for!
future! recruitment! surveys.! In! addition,! they!
performed!a!survey!in!flatfish!nursery!areas!to!assess!
the! effect! of! floating! algal! maths! on! recruitment! of!
flounder!and!turbot.!
