President’s Message
by Anne Polli
I can’t believe it’s here already...a new
SAHJA show season has begun and
with it comes a flurry of reminders to
start the year right.
If you have not done so to this point,
please remember to renew your
membership for 2015. Not only does
a membership for you and your horse
make sure all your division points
are tracked and tabulated, SAHJA
membership gives you special access
to our educational clinics, lets you
participate in the Medal Finals, sends
a newsletter to your mailbox, and if
you are a high school senior, is the first
step in applying for a SAHJA 2015
scholarship.
Speaking of those scholarships,
inside this newsletter you will find
the application form for this years
awards. On the form you will find
all instructions necessary to submit
a complete application.
Read
CAREFULLY, as incomplete or
incorrect submissions will not be
accepted. Applications and essays
must be RECEIVED by April 15th,
so high school seniors, choose your
essay prompt and get writing!
I can’t start off the year without
mentioning our fabulous awards
banquet
honoring
our
2014
2
champions held several weeks ago. It
was an amazing afternoon, everyone
looked great and many went home
with perpetual trophies, ribbons,
awards, and additionally quite a few
lucky winners took home items from
the silent auction and raffle. Our
banquet attendees were quite generous
and because of that we were able to
add to our general and scholarship
funds. Businesses in our community
and barns in the SAHJA community
were also generous in their donations
to make this event possible. There is
a list of donors inside the newsletter,
please thank them and if possible,
patronize their businesses, we are
quite fortunate to have their support.
Finally, thank you to each and every
SAHJA Board member, the Junior
Ambassadors, member volunteers and
the volunteers from the Intel Corp.
That overused phrase, “it takes a
village” is nonetheless apropos in this
case and I am so grateful for the many
people willing to pitch in to make our
events for the members the best they
can be.
Lastly, on the subject of the volunteers
from Intel (see the paragraph above).
If you attended the banquet, you saw
the Intel volunteers in their blue shirts
involved and doing whatever needed
to be done to help. Every SAHJA
FEBRUARY 2015 SACRAMENTO AREA HUNTER JUMPER ASSOCIATION
member, parent and trainer needs to
know that Intel believes strongly in the
strength of community and Intel’s place
in it. They encourage their employees to
volunteer in the community and are so
committed to the concept of community
service that they contribute funds to
eligible organizations for the time their
employees volunteer. Board member
(and Intel employee), Lisa Watts, has
helped SAHJA complete the necessary
applications to be a part of this amazing
program and the funds from Intel help
us provide the many clinics, seminars,
scholarships, and events for our
members. With this in mind as you go
through the year, when you see someone
at a SAHJA event with a blue Intel shirt
on, or a badge identifying them as an
Intel volunteer, I am asking each of you
to take the time to thank them. First,
thank them for taking their own time to
volunteer in their community, secondly,
thank them because they could spend
their valuable time helping anyone and
they chose SAHJA!
I hope you all start this show year with a
positive attitude and the understanding
of how fortunate we are to be able to
do what we love. With that as a basis
for your riding and your time with your
horse, the “bad” days won’t be quite as
bad and the good days will be wonderful.
If you are returning to SAHJA, we are
glad to have you back, if this is your first
year of membership, welcome! Spring
is coming, get out those shedding blades
and we’ll see you down the road.
