Potentate’s Message
Greetings:
April is a busy month, Circus April 8th and 9th at Barton
Coliseum. Onions coming in near the end of the month or the first of May.
Past Potentate Charles Thomas and myself will be in Lincoln
Nebraska for the Central States business meeting while our circus is going
on. I know that Chief Rabban Robert Cash and Asst. Rabban Gardner
Burton will have everything under control, they have done an excellent job
on the circus.
May will be another busy month, with the onions and the South
Central Shrine Association Session in Muskogee Oklahoma. This is not to
far so we should have a good turnout for this. Bedouin Shrine in Muskogee
will be putting on a good show for everybody.
That’s about all I have for this month so I made it short and sweet.
Yours in the faith and Unity,
Floyd Buffington, Potentate
“NOTICE”

LADIES !
The ladies of Scimitar Shrine will work on a couple
of craft projects during the ladies meeting at the
April Stated Meeting. We will be decorating Easter
Baskets and Easter Bonnets that the ladies will
raffle after the Stated Meeting. Ladies, please start
saving and gathering Easter baskets and Easter
bonnets, craft supplies for decorating, and items to
be placed in our decorated baskets and bonnets.
We plan on having a good time and look forward
to learning a few tricks of the trade from our
resident florist, Jan Diederich.
Please start
collecting your items and prepare to come have
fun and maybe learn a thing or two.

Diners
Diners Unit met February 15, at
Shorty Small’s Restaurant in
No. Little Rock. There was a
total of 15 present, including
our Unit Liaison Officer and
Assistant Rabban, Gardner
Burton.
After everyone had enjoyed a
delicious meal, Noble Burton
spoke, noting several up
coming functions and activities
of the Shrine. He emphasized
the importance of all our efforts
toward the circus in April, and
the onion sales in May.
Jean Janosek, won the “ole
dollar game”.
The Unit’s March meal gettogether will be at Panda
Gardens, Shackelford
Crossing, in Little Rock.
Nomad
Shrine Club
The Nomad Shrine Club met
on Thursday March 3, at the
Bella Vista Country Club. The
meeting was called to order by
1st Vice Pres. Dan Cookson.
Special guests from the Shrine
Center were Potentate Floyd
Buffington, and 1st Ceremonial
Master Lyle Shelor. Ill. Sir
Floyd presented Past Pres.
Glen Jackson’s Ambassador
Jewels. Lady Kathy Tillman
was honored for her 11th quilt
which she makes each year
and gives to Nomad as a prize
during the Spring Classic.
Lady Kathy’s quilts are
dedicated to the memory of her
beloved husband, Noble
Ernest Tillman. Our Special
Speaker Joey Williams, a
Walmart employee who also is
a Magician, who entertained all
with his magic tricks.
Our next event the Annual
Spring Fling, held at the
Country Club on March 18.
Further Plans are being made
for our Annual Nomad Golf
Classic to be held on June 11,
at the Kingdale Golf Center.
We hope to have enough
teams to fill both Kingsdale
and Berksdale Golf Courses.
Northwest AR
Shrine Club
Another fast moving meeting of
the NWASC. Our Hospital
Chairman, Noble Al Spotten,
brought in one of his patients,
Kevin Valie, with his mother
and sister. His mother,
Joanna told of all good things
the Chicago Hospital has done
for Kevin. She held our
attention for almost 15 minutes
praising the Shrine Hospital
and Shriners. Kevin has a
Spinal Cord injury and is in a
wheel chair, but puts on a big
smile when he shakes hands
with Shriners.
Noble Al, gave out copies of
written guidelines for new
patients, it will answer
practically all questions that the
families have regarding what
the Club can and cannot do for
them.
Nobles Dale Miller and Jimmy
Williams, Co-Chairmen of the
:”BIG ONION EVENT”, are
doing their best to get us ready
Page 8
to “SELL THOSE ONIONS”.
Pres, Jim Carlson updated us
on the Circus and referred us
to the “Farmers Almanac” for
what the weather will be on
Circus Day 16 & 17 of
September.
We hope everyone will come
back next month, we plan to
make a presentation and no
telling what else might
happen.
