Tuition Assistance Information
2015-2016
When you come up the hill, you enter a place where the
academic, the personal, the spiritual, the innovative and
the traditional combine to create a one-of-a-kind school.
Hoban is that rare place where you can always be
yourself, where you can stay true to you. A place where
you can become the person God is calling you to be.
Archbishop Hoban High School
2014-15 Tuition Assistance Information
Scholarships
Need-Based Tuition Assistance Program
Blessed Father Basil Moreau, C.S.C. Scholarships
These renewable scholarships are offered to students whose scores on
the scholarship placement test are exceptional. A special application
is mailed to these scholars. An essay, teacher recommendation and
interview are required to determine those who best meet Father
Moreau’s philosophy of educating both the heart and the mind.
Need-based tuition assistance is awarded to families who demonstrate
financial need. Parents or guardians must complete the Private School
Aid Service (PSAS) form, submit their most recent IRS 1040 and W-2
forms and meet all deadlines.
Placement Test Scholarships
Archbishop Hoban High School sponsors scholarships of various
amounts for at least the top twenty-five (25) students on the designated
Scholarship Placement Tests. Renewal of this four-year award requires a
3.2 grade point average.
Holy Cross Scholarships
This is a prestigious award that Archbishop Hoban High School
offers to incoming students who exemplify the Holy Cross core values.
Recipients of the Holy Cross Scholarship are chosen by Hoban’s
administrative team after a review of the scholarship applications. The
selected students excel in the classroom, lead by example, live their faith,
are well-rounded, and generously share their talents with others. The
award is renewable based on the student maintaining a 3.2 grade point
average and showing that same kind of leadership as part of the Hoban
community.
Endowed Scholarships
Archbishop Hoban High School has been blessed with a number of
families and organizations that have established endowed scholarships
for qualified Hoban students. These endowed scholarships must be
applied for annually and are awarded to students who demonstrate
academic excellence, cocurricular involvement, and leadership. All
students who are seeking financial aid are encouraged to apply. Many,
but not all, endowed scholarships require financial need.
Each scholarship has specific criteria so scholarship applications
must be completed fully and carefully. The scholarship committee
will evaluate many aspects including academic marks, cocurricular
involvement, leadership, student essay and teacher recommendations.
Grants
The Family Plan
This is a tuition reduction granted to families having two or more
students attending Archbishop Hoban during the same school year.
Please notify the business office if you are eligible. This discount is $750
for the second student and $900 for each succeeding student.
Catholic School Teacher Grant
This is a tuition reduction for each student with a parent who is a fulltime teacher or administrator in a Catholic elementary school. If both
parents are teachers in a Catholic elementary school, only one grant is
applicable. Proof of employment is required. Notify the Hoban business
office if you are eligible. This grant is for $500.
Diocesan Tuition Assistance
These grants are provided by the Diocese of Cleveland based on
financial need. Applicants must complete a Private School Aid Service
(PSAS) form in order to be considered for these grants. Incoming ninth
grade students are given PSAS forms after the placement tests. Current
Hoban students may obtain PSAS forms in Hoban’s central office in
mid-December. Funds awarded by the Diocese of Cleveland will be
deducted from the total Hoban aid package.
Once the PSAS form, IRS 1040 and W-2 are complete, they should be
mailed to Private School Aid Service with the required fee.
Incoming ninth graders receive the PSAS when they take the placement
test. Those who wish early notification must submit their completed
forms no later than December 1, 2014. Current Hoban students can
obtain the PSAS form from the central office during December. These
are due by March 1, 2015 and must include the most recent 1040 and
W-2 forms. Families of incoming ninth graders who already have a
student enrolled at Hoban are asked to complete one PSAS application
using the most recent (2014) tax and income information. PSAS forms
are available on the Hoban web site at www.hoban.org under
Those who meet the December 1 deadline will be notified no later than
the first week of January regarding their estimated financial aid award.
These awards are based on financial need and are credited against the
tuition based on the family’s chosen payment plan.
All assistance must be applied for each year. Each year awards are based
on updated information provided in the PSAS form submitted by the
family. Assistance is awarded to families in need and come with the
expectation that the students who receive them work toward academic
success. It is suggested students who receive these grants also participate
in our work-study program. Need-based tuition assistance is funded
through the generosity of the Hoban Board of Trustees, the Hoban
Trust Fund, the GAR Foundation, the Diocese of Cleveland and many
generous alumni, parents and other benefactors.
Work-Study Program
Work-Study is a program that gives tuition credit for a student’s work
on Hoban’s maintenance or janitorial crew during the summer and
school year. On-campus jobs are not limited to students who have
obtained financial assistance. Once work slots are filled with those
students who receive need-based financial assistance, the program is
open to other student applicants. Preference is given to underclassmen
who are not eligible to receive a work permit.
Incoming ninth grade students receive application forms for workstudy when they register for classes in March. Current Hoban students
obtain a work-study application form from the central office any time
after March 14. A grant from the GAR Foundation partially funds this
program.
