En el año 1988 el director de cine
John Carpenter estrenó la película "They Live". Una pequeña producción de serie B de tan solo 89
minutos de duración y con un
guión bastante sencillo, aunque
con un contenido directo y comprometido. En ella John, su protagonista, descubre al ponerse
unas peculiares gafas de sol, que
la realidad que le rodea es diferente a como la solemos percibir
normalmente, que detrás de cada
señal, anuncio o cartel hay un
mensaje
para
someter
y
esclavizar a los seres humanos, y
que, incluso, algunas personas no
son lo que parecen. Estas criaturas, ocultas bajo apariencia
humana, están desvalijando la
tierra sistemáticamente y prácticamente nadie ha podido resistirse al lavado de cerebro.
Por aquel entonces, cuando se
estrenó la película, Carpenter ya
era un director de culto con
películas tan notables en su filmografía como Assault on Precinct
13, Halloween, The Fog, Escape
from New York, Christine o
Starman. Y a día de hoy sigue
siendo uno de los directores de
cine más particulares, fiel a sí
mismo y a un género que le reporta tantas críticas como alabanzas.
Veintitrés años después parece que
las pesadillas de John Carpenter
están más vivas que nunca. "They
Live" y nosotros estamos dormidos. Dominados y controlados.
Veintitrés años después nuestra
sociedad debe despertar ante el
saqueo global, personal y social
que tiene lugar ante nuestros ojos
y a nuestras espaldas.
movil, SmartPhones, iPhones,
iPad, Mp3, videojuegos, fútbol,
noticias, guerras, catástrofes y
conflictos de todo tipo... Y nadie,
ninguno, estamos libres de pecado como para tirar la primera
piedra. Somos parte de esta realidad, de este sistema y, en mayor
o en menor medida, contribuimos a él. Pero eso no quiere
decir que no podamos despertar
y actuar en consecuencia, con
una mayor consciencia. Poco a
poco. Sin prisa, pero sin pausa.
Todo gran cambio empieza por
uno pequeño.
Mientras nos bombardean con
guerras innecesarias, aparecen
nuevas enfermedades y devastan
el planeta agotando los recursos
naturales, nos mantienen más
entretenidos y distraídos que
nunca. Nos crean nuevas necesidades que no teníamos, se estimula el consumismo compulsivo
y la avaricia infinita. Nunca nada
es suficiente para saciar nuestra
angustia. Compra y consume.

Esta edición especial que tenéis
en vuestras manos es nuestro
particular granito de arena a
favor de esta causa, de este necesario despertar de la consciencia.
Y es, al mismo tiempo, un homenaje a John Carpenter y la película "They Live". Por eso la hemos
titulado "They Live. We Rise"
(Ellos están vivos. Nosotros nos
rebelamos), porque, además de
querer desvelar el mensaje oculto
de esclavitud y sumisión, queremos aportar una versión inverti-
da, un mensaje opuesto que haga
despertar nuestra consciencia.

In 1988 the film director John
Carpenter released the movie
"They Live." A small B-movie
production with just 89 minutes
and a fairly simple script,
although with a direct and committed content. In it John, the
protagonist, discovers when he
wears a peculiar sunglasses that
the reality around him is unlike
how we usually perceive.
Behind every sign, advertisement or poster there is a hidden
message to subdue and enslave
human beings, and even some
people are not what they seem.
These creatures, hidden under
human guise, are systematically
plundering the earth and hardly
anyone has been able to resist
the brainwashing.
At that time, when the film premiered, Carpenter was already a
cult director with such notable
films in his career as Assault on
Precinct 13, Halloween, The Fog,
Escape
from
New
York,
Christine or Starman. And to
this day remains as one of the
most unique filmmakers, always
true to himself and a genre that
brings him so much criticism as
compliments.
Twenty three years later it seems
that John Carpenter's nightmares
are more alive than ever. "They
Live" and we are asleep. Dominated and controlled. Twenty three
years later, our society must wake
up to this global, personal and
social looting that takes place in
front of our eyes and on our backs.
Twitter, mobile phones, smartphones, iPhones, iPad, Mp3,
video games, football, news,
wars, disasters and conflicts of all
kinds... And anyone, nobody, is
without sin to cast the first stone.
We are part of this reality, this
system and, by a greater or lesser
extent, we contribute to it.
Although that does not mean
that we can not wake up and act
accordingly, with a higher consciousness. Step by step. Slowly
but surely. All great changes
begins with an small one.
While we are bombarded with
unnecessary wars, new diseases
appear, the planet is devastated
and its natural resources become
exhausted, they keep us entertained and distracted more than
ever. They create us new needs
that we didn't have, it encourages compulsive consumism and
endless greed. Nothing is ever
enough to satisfy our anxiety.

for this cause, this need of an
awakening of consciousness.
And it is also a tribute to John
Carpenter and the film "They
Live." That's why we have
called it "They Live. We Rise",
because, apart from wanting to
reveal the hidden message of
slavery and submission, we
provide an inverted version, an
opposite message that do raise
our consciousness. That's also

not only criticize, but also build

LA GRAN OLA.
Por muy profundamente que
hayas estado durmiendo hasta
hoy, es evidente que por lo
menos un ojo tienes abierto, o
medio abierto, y que has leído
hasta este punto. Tu propia inquietud, tu curiosidad, alguna
casualidad o el destino mismo, ha
hecho que estés aquí y ahora. En
Belio no creemos en las casualidades, creemos que todo ocurre
por alguna razón. Tú, nosotros y
casi todo el mundo es consciente
de que un gran cambio está sucediendo. Por muy dormidos que
hayamos estado, todos, en mayor
o menor medida somos conscientes de esta gran ola.
La historia de la humanidad siempre se ha movido en base a procesos de crisis y revoluciones, ya
sean sociales o tecnológicas.
Ahora mismo estamos ante otro
de esos momentos únicos y especiales de nuestra historia, un
momento lleno de cambios y
transformaciones, crisis y evolución. Estamos viviendo una crisis
que abarca todos los planos de
nuestra realidad. El sistema en el
que vivimos está llegando a su
límite, al borde del colapso. Y es
de necios pensar que otra persona
será quien solucione el problema,
si todos pensamos lo mismo.
Vivimos una erosión social que
bien puede recordar a otros
antiguos periodos de la humanidad, donde unos pocos acumulaban muchos bienes a costa
de que muchos otros iban perdiendo lo poco que tenían. Como
decía Gandhi: "el mundo es lo suficientemente grande para satisfacer
las necesidades de todos pero demasiado pequeño para saciar la avaricia
de unos pocos." Pues no solo sufrimos nosotros problemas como
el desempleo o el encarecimiento
de la vivienda y de los productos
que cubren nuestras necesidades
básicas, tales como comida, agua y
electricidad, la Tierra también sufre
la sobreexplotación de sus recursos
naturales a manos de una plaga, la
de los seres humanos.
El sistema en el que vivimos
actualmente se ha construido
sobre la idea de que los recursos
naturales de la Tierra eran infinitos, o eso hemos querido creer y
hemos ignorado la lógica en
nuestro pensamiento. Hemos
preferido mirar para otro lado y
seguir en la rueda de producir y
consumir hasta el infinito y más
allá. Nuestra sociedad nos ha
enseñado a tapar nuestras angustias afectivas bajo el consumismo
compulsivo y el coleccionismo.
La crisis que vivimos no es
porque nos falte algo, es porque
tenemos demasiado. Retroalimentamos un sistema que nos
crea nuevas necesidades. No
hace muchos años no existía la
telefonía móvil y vivíamos sin
problemas. Hoy en día casi todo
el mundo tiene un teléfono móvil
y salir a la calle sin él puede parecernos un desastre. Es cierto. Es
así. Ahora aparecen nuevos dispositivos portátiles de ocio digital, tabletas como el famoso iPad.
En realidad, no los necesitamos,
pero los estudios dicen que en
menos de cinco años todos
dispondremos de uno de ellos
en nuestras manos. Ya ha
empezado el proceso de bombardeo publicitario para que no
seas el último en tenerlo, para no
quedarte fuera. Lo mismo que
ha ocurrido en los últimos años
con las redes sociales como
Facebook o Twitter. Has podido
prescindir de ellas y aún puedes
hacerlo, puedes decidir no
entrar a formar parte de ese
juego, pero tarde o temprano
todas tus amistades, familiares y
compañeros de trabajo te preguntarán: ¿Por qué no estás en
Facebook? Habrá gente que ya
no te llame por teléfono o que no
te escriba un email, pues ahora
establecen su comunicación a
través de dichas redes sociales y
si no estás, no existes. Tarde o
temprano, de una u otra manera, este sistema en el que vivimos te obligará a crear una cuenta de usuario y registrar tus
datos. Fichado y controlado. Así,
cada día tenemos más cosas que
hacer y menos tiempo para
nosotros mismos. Lo llaman ocio
y entretenimiento. También lo
llaman procastinación, y puede
ser un desorden psicológico que
hace que no seamos capaces de
concentrarnos en una sola tarea,
anulando nuestras capacidades
de tal modo que podamos llegar
a sentirnos frustrados e inútiles.
De esta manera, el mundo cada
día parece girar más deprisa,
pues cada día tenemos más trabajo que hacer, menos tiempo y
menos dinero.
Podríamos echar un vistazo a las
noticias de cada día, pero
podríamos caer en una depresión
tras constatar que todo gira en
torno a las guerras, los desastres
naturales, la corrupción política,
los despidos laborales, el
petróleo, los mercados de valores, el FMI, el G8, el G20, el terrorismo, la violencia, las drogas,
los robos, los asesinatos y, por
supuesto, los deportes, sobre
todo el fútbol. Todo ello, como un
fiel retrato intencionado de una
sociedad fragmentada y dividida.
Dividida y vencida. Podemos
hacerlo, podemos ver la tele o
podemos apagarla y hacer otra
cosa mejor, aquí y ahora.
Llegados a este punto, ¿realmente crees que podemos continuar así? ¿Que los recursos naturales de la tierra son infinitos?
¿Que otra persona, otro partido
político, otro banquero u otro
multimillonario va a resolver
todo esto? No. Eres tú el único
responsable y artífice del cambio
en tu vida y solo cuando cambiemos en nuestro interior, el
exterior cambiará como reflejo de
nuestro cambio. Por eso es necesaria una "Evolución Consciente",
no otra violenta e inconsciente
revolución que lo único que cambia es al títere que parece gobernarnos. He aquí la gran ola, el
gran cambio que debe producirse, un cambio no solo en el
exterior y en la forma, sino en el
interior y en la esencia. No será
fácil. Nunca lo es. Pero, ¿qué es
mejor: renovarse o morir?
Y AHORA , ¿QUÉ?
Llevamos años viviendo en un continuo descontento, ya sea por la
situación económica, social o ecológica. Llegan tiempos de elecciones,
ya sean municipales o nacionales,
pero las propuestas siguen siendo
las mismas: "tú has hecho, tú has
dicho, tú has estafado, tú has mentido…" Los partidos políticos de
siempre siguen haciendo la política
de siempre: acusar al prójimo en
lugar de ofrecer una solución. Esto
sucede aquí en España pero también en Francia, Alemania, Inglaterra, Estados Unidos, por no
hablar de los países intervenidos
económicamente: Irlanda, Grecia
y Portugal. ¿A quién elegimos? ¿A
quién votamos para dirigirnos?
La falta de soluciones desde la
política establecida contrasta con la
cada vez más abundante información y reflexiones expuestas en conferencias, libros, documentales y
películas. Ideas no faltan, ideología
tampoco, pero los grandes cambios
que son necesarios dan miedo a
aquellos que ostentan el poder.
¿Cuántos de vosotros conocéis a
alguien sobradamente preparado y
que busca trabajo de lo que sea?
¿Quizás vosotros mismos? Y si
tienes trabajo es probable que esté
mal pagado, que trabajes demasiadas horas y que, además, no
llegues a fin de mes holgadamente. Llámalo "mileruista" y haz
chistes fáciles, o llámalo por su
nombre y pide explicaciones.
Dicen que la gente joven es conformista, pero también dicen que
la gente solo actúa si le tocan en
lo personal. ¿Hasta cuando?
Actualmente puedes ver manifestaciones y revueltas de estudiantes y gente joven en muy distintos
países, desde los violentos disturbios en los últimos meses en
Londres hasta la caída de Hosni
Mubarak a manos del pueblo egipcio tras 30 años en el poder. Y
nosotros queremos animarte a que
expreses tu descontento, tu enfado,
tu rabia contenida, por la vía que
quieras, pero hazlo. Redes sociales
como Facebook y Twitter son herramientas que dependiendo del uso
que les demos, pueden mostrar lo
mejor o lo peor del ser humano,
pueden ser utilizadas de forma
inteligente y útil como foros donde
proponer ideas, convocar una
manifestación u organizar una
acción de protesta. Si además conseguimos trasladar la participación
en dichas comunidades virtuales al
plano de lo real, transformaremos
un simple comentario en una
acción. Cuando en el año 2004 vivimos en España la tragedia del 11M
y el consecuente intento por parte
del gobierno de ocultar la información antes de la elecciones generales, muchos de nosotros tomamos las calles sin su consentimiento para demostrar que no podían
engañarnos y que demandábamos
un cambio. Ahora no tenemos un
atentado con bomba, pero tenemos
una crisis que está acabando con
los pilares de la sociedad y la cultura, que solo beneficia a unos
pocos, la banca y cuatro empresarios que rigen el país por encima de ideologías políticas. Y mientras tanto se sigue con la política de
la desinformación, ya sea el partido
que sea. Mostrémosles otra vez
que no pueden engañarnos, que
queremos un cambio.
Ha quedado demostrado que el sistema que estamos sustentando no
funciona, el producir y consumir
no va traer la felicidad que el ser
humano busca. El sector editorial,
por poner un ejemplo, está afectado de la misma enfermedad que el
resto: la falta de ideas originales, la
ausencia de ética y de pasión a la
hora de editar es disimulada en las
grandes empresas con la copia y la
sobreproducción de productos sin
alma que solo buscan el beneficio
económico a cualquier precio, llevando la producción a países como
China o India, propiciando una
competencia desleal y socavando la
economía en los países de origen.
Mientras tanto, nuestros políticos
siguen creando leyes que benefician este tipo de mercado. Dirigir
todos nuestros esfuerzos en salvar un sistema económico en
quiebra a través de apretar el cinturón al pueblo, no va a cambiar
la situación. Sustituir cultura por
consumismo no es la clave.
En Belio siempre hemos publicado
con pasión, buscando ideas propias
y originales. Pero también hemos
intentando contribuir desde la cultura y el arte a ese diálogo y crítica
social. Con Belio 020: Revolution,
Belio 021: Trash, o Belio 027:
Wildlife, hemos tocado temas que
creíamos necesarios, siempre desde
unas formas comedidas y estéticas.
Este Belio que tienes en las manos
es un cambio de formato, más adecuado al tono del mensaje que nos
ocupa. Es una idea que teníamos
hace tiempo en mente y que hemos
decido publicar aquí y ahora
porque la situación nos lo pide.
Como muchos ya sabréis, en lugar
de este Belio deberías tener en tu
manos el Belio 033: Adrenaline.
Dicha publicación está terminada y
lista para imprimir, pero la
situación económica no es tan
favorable como nos gustaría. No os
vamos a engañar, llevamos varios
años luchando por seguir adelante,
haciendo posible lo imposible. Y en
el camino son muchos los compañeros de la escena cultural que
han cerrado y desaparecido: publicaciones, editoriales, sellos discográficos, tiendas, librerías, festivales, galerías de arte e, incluso,
museos y centros culturales. No
vamos a citar nombres, pues correríamos el riesgo de olvidarnos más
de uno. Belio nunca ha estado libre
de este peligro, pero lejos de tirar la
toalla o adquirir deudas impagables, apostamos por la vía de la
sensatez. Nos abrimos a cualquier
posibilidad que signifique para
nosotros el seguir evolucionando y
difundiendo las ideas y el arte que
nos emociona, ya sea a través de
nuestras páginas web, de publicaciones "Print-On-Demand", proyectos expositivos, vídeos o ediciones limitadas en otros formatos, ya se verá.
Todo esto no quiere decir que este
sea el último Belio que tengas en
tus manos, tampoco quiere decir
que el Belio 033 no vaya a ser publicado. Sin duda el futuro es incierto,
siempre lo ha sido, pero confiamos
en él, en el FUTURO y en TI.
THE GREAT WAVE.
No matter how deeply you've
been sleeping until now, it is
clear that at least you had one
eye open or half open, and
you've read this far. Your own
concerns, your curiosity, any
chance or fate in itself has led
you here and now. At Belio we do
not believe in coincidences, we
believe that everything happens
for a reason. You, us and almost
everyone is aware that a great
change is happening. However
we, all, have been asleep, we are
aware of this great wave to a
greater or lesser extent.
The history of mankind has
always moved based on crises
and revolutions, whether social
or technological. Right now we
are living another of those
unique and special moments in
our history, a moment full of
changes and transformations,
crisis and evolution. We are
experiencing a crisis that
encompasses all levels of our
reality. The system we live in is
reaching its limit, on the verge
of collapse. And it is foolish to
think that someone will come
to solve the problem, specially
if we all are thinking the same.
We are experiencing a social
erosion that may well remind
other ancient periods of
mankind, where a few accumulated many goods at the
expense of many others who
were losing what little they
had. As Gandhi said: "Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's
need, but not every man's greed."
Not only us are suffering problems such as unemployment
or the rising prices of houses
and products that meet our
basic needs such as food, water
and electricity, the Earth also
suffers from over-exploitation
of natural resources at the
hands of a pest, the human
beings.
The system we live in today is
built on the idea that Earth's
natural resources were infinite,
or so we wanted to believe and
have ignored the logic in our
thinking. We preferred to look
other way and follow in the
wheel of production and consumption until the infinity and
beyond. Our society has taught
us to hide our emotional distress under compulsive consumerism and collecting. The
crisis that we are living is not
because the lack of something,
it's because we have too much
of everything. Feeding back a
system that creates new needs.
Not so long ago there was no
mobile phones and we lived
without problems. Nowadays
almost everyone has a mobile
phone and going out without it
may seem like a disaster. It's
true. Just like that. Now there
are new portable digital entertainment devices, tablets like
the well-known iPad. In fact,
we do not need it, but studies
say that in less than five years
everyone will have one in our
hands. The spam process has
already begun and you won't
like to be the last one to have it,
you won't like to stay out. The
same has happened in recent
years with social networks like
Facebook or Twitter. You could
prescind from them and even
so, you can choose not to join
that game, but sooner or later
all your friends, family and
coworkers will ask: Why aren't
you on Facebook? There will be
people who already do not call
or write an email to you, just
because now people set their
communication through such
social networks and if you're
not there, then you don't exist.
Sooner or later, one way or
another, this system we live in
will force you to create a user
account and register your data.
Signed in and controlled. So,
every day we have more things
to do and less time for ourselves. They call it entertainment. It's also called procrastination, and it may be a psychological disorder which make us
not able to concentrate on one
task, canceling our capabilities
so that we can come to feel
frustrated and helpless. Thus,
the world each day seems to
spin faster, because every day
we have more work to do, less
time and money.
We could take a look at the
news of the day, but could fall
into a depression after finding
that
everything
revolves
around war, natural disasters,
political corruption, layoffs, oil,
stock markets, IMF, G8, G20,
terrorism, violence, drugs, robberies, murders and, of course,
sports, especially football. This,
as a faithful portrait of a society
intentionally fragmented and
divided. Divided and conquered. We can do it, we can watch
the TV or we can turn it off and
do something better, here and
now.
At this point, do you really
think we can continue this
way? Do you think that natural
resources are infinite? Do you
think that another person,
another political party, another
banker or another billionaire
will solve all this? No. You are
the only responsible and architect of changing your life and
only when we change within,
the outside will change as a
reflection of our change. Hence
the need for a "Conscious
Evolution", not another unconscious violent revolution that
will only change the puppet
that seems to govern us. Here's
the big wave, the great change
that must occur, a change not
only on the outside and in the
shape, but inside and in the
essence. It won't be easy. It
never is. But, what's better: to
renew or die?
AND NOW, WHAT?
We've spent years living in a continuous discontent, either by the
economic, social or environmental
situation. Election time is coming
again, whether local or national,
but the proposals remain the same:
"you've done, you've said, you've
cheated, you've lied..." The political
parties are always doing politics as
usual: blame to others rather than
offering a solution. This happens
here in Spain but also in France,
Germany, England, United States,
not to mention the countries economically intervened: Greece,
Ireland and Portugal. For whom
should we vote? Who will lead us?
The lack of solutions from the
established politic parties contrasts
with the ever more abundant information and discussions presented
in conferences, books, documentaries and films. Plenty of ideas and
ideologies, but the big changes
needed are threatening to those
who hold the power. How many of
you know someone too well prepared and looking for a job of any
kind? Maybe even yourself? And if
you have a job in most of the cases
it would be poorly paid, you would
work too many hours and you
would strugle to reach the end of
the month easily. Call it "minimum-wage earner" and make
easy jokes, or call it by its name
and demand an explanation.
They say young people are conformist, but they also say people
only act when their personal field
is touched. Until when?
Currently you can see demonstrations and riots by students and
young people in many different
countries, from the violent disturbances in recent months in London
until the fall of Hosni Mubarak at
the hands of the egyptian people
after 30 years in power. And we
want to encourage you to express
your discontent, your anger, your
rage, by the way you want, but do it.
Social networks like Facebook and
Twitter are tools that, depending on
how we use them, may either bring
out the best or the worst in human
beings, they can be used in a wise
and useful way, as forums for brainstorming, calls for demonstrations
or the organization of a protest. If
we also bring the participation in
such virtual communities to reality,
we can convert a simple comment
into an action. When in 2004 we
lived in Spain the tragedy of the
M11 and the subsequent attempt by
the government of concealing information before the general election,
many of us take to the streets without their consent to demonstrate
that they could not fool us and we
were demanding a change. There is
not any bomb attack right now, but
we have a crisis that is destroying
the pillars of our society and culture,
which benefits only a few, banks
and four big businessmen who govern the country above political
ideologies. And meanwhile it
continues with the policy of disinformation, no matter which
party is in the gobernament. Lets

It has been proved that the system
that we are sustaining does not
work, the produce and consume
concept will not bring the happiness that human being seeks. The
publishing sector, for instance, is
suffering from the same disease as
the rest: the lack of original ideas,
the lack of ethics and passion for
publishing is concealed by big companies with the ripping-off and the
overproduction of soulless products who only seek financial gain
at any cost, taking production to
countries like China or India, bringing unfair competition and undermining the economies of the origin
countries. Meanwhile our politicians continue creating laws that
benefit this kind of business. Direct
all our efforts to save a bankrupt
economic system through tightening people's belt will not change
the situation. Replace culture by
consumerism is not the key.
At Belio we have always published
with passion, seeking our own
ideas. But we have also tried to
contribute from the culture and art
side to the social critiscism and dialogue. With Belio 020: Revolution,
Belio 021: Trash, or Belio 027:
Wildlife, we have touched issues
that we thought necessary, always
from a demure and aesthetic way.
This new Belio you have in your
hands is a change of format, best
suited to the tone of the message in
question. It's an idea we had in
mind for some time and we have
decided to publish it right here and
right now because the situation
calls for it. As you may already
know, instead of this Belio you
should have in your hands the
Belio 033: Adrenaline. This publication is finsihed and ready for printing, but the economic situation is
not as favorable as we would like.
We are not going to cheat you, we
have been struggling to survive for
several years, making possible the
impossible. And along the way
there are many colleagues in the
cultural scene that have closed and
gone: publications, publishers,
record labels, shops, bookstores,
festivals, art galleries and even
museums and cultural centers. We
will not give names, to avoid the
risk of forgetting more than one.
Belio has never been free of this
danger, but far from throwing in
the towel or purchase bad debts,
we are committed to the path of
wisdom. We are open to any possibility that means for us to continue evoluting and disseminating the ideas and art that moves
ourselves, ehether through our
websites, "Print-On-Demand"
publications, exhibition projects,
videos or limited editions in
other formats, we'll see.
All this does not mean that this is
the last Belio you will have in
your hands, neither to say that
Belio 033 will not be published.
No doubt, the future is uncertain,
always has been, but we trust it,

BELIO: UN JUEGO INFINITO.
El laberinto es un símbolo ancestral ligado a muy distintas culturas en la historia de la
humanidad. Las teorías más sólidas vinculan su origen con el mito
de Teseo y su lucha contra el
Minotauro dentro del laberinto.
La Grecia clásica y el Imperio
Romano también lo usaron, especialmente para danzas rituales y a
la entrada de las casas como
amuleto contra los malos espíritus
y demás amenazas, convirtiendo
así el laberinto en una especie de
prisión para el mal. El cristianismo también adoptó este icono y
fue representado en el suelo de
numerosas iglesias y catedrales,
como representación del largo y
tortuoso camino de la vida hasta
llegar a la salida, la muerte. A partir del siglo XII los laberintos
tomaron un carácter más lúdico,
si bien el laberinto clásico es de
planta circular y sentido unidireccional (sin bifurcaciones), a partir
de está época predominan todo
tipo de estructuras y diseños con
infinidad de caminos donde
perder a los jugadores.
El círculo es una forma geométrica que encarna la perfección y
como tal es símbolo de globalidad, de la Madre Tierra y del
Universo. Por otro lado, el triángulo es una forma geométrica
generalmente vinculada con representaciones de Dios, la
divinidad y la mística. Si consideramos las religiones como una
creación humana para justificar
nuestra propia existencia, la transformación de un círculo en una
forma triangular representa la perversión de un "todo" a través de la
visión y creación humana. El arte
como una visión personalizada y
retorcida del mundo.
Si entendemos la vida como un
juego infinito en el cual no existe
un ganador ni reglas estáticas, el
único fin de dicho juego sería su
propia continuidad, su simple
existencia. En este sentido, la con-
cepción de la vida como un retorcido laberinto es sinónimo de la
naturaleza lúdica del ser
humano: homo ludens. De la
misma, forma podemos analizar
los distintos elementos que componen nuestra sociedad como
juegos: la economía (la bolsa, la
banca, las crisis económicas, los
paraísos fiscales, el G-20, ...), la
política (con sus distintos partidos, las elecciones municipales y
nacionales, los abusos de poder y
la corrupción, las invasiones,
tiranías y guerras, ...), las religiones (con sus distintas doctrinas, rituales y concepciones del
paraíso) y así hasta un largo
etcétera. Tal y como afirma James
P. Carse en su libro Juegos Finitos
y Juegos Infinitos: "El placer del
juego infinito, reside en empezar
algo que sabemos que no podemos
terminar."

BELIO: AN INFINITE GAME.
The labyrinth is an ancient symbol linked to many different cultures in the history of mankind.
Strong theories connect its origin
with the myth of Theseus and the
Minotaur fighting against each
other in the labyrinth. Classical
Greece and the Roman Empire
also used it, especially for ritualistic dances and at the entrance of
their homes as a charm against
evil spirits and other threats,
turning the maze into something
of a prison for evil. Christianity
also adopted this symbol and
depicted it on the floor of many
churches and cathedrals, representing the long and winding
way of life towards its exit: death.
From XII century mazes took a
more playful meaning and
design. While the classical labyrinth is a circular and unidirectional way (no forks), the new
concept distinguished itself
through all kinds of structures
and designs with lots of paths for
the players to get lost.
The circle is a geometric shape
that embodies perfection and
thus is a symbol of wholeness, of
Mother Earth and the universe.
On the other hand, the triangle is a
geometric shape usually associated
with representations of God, the
divinity and mysticism. If we consider religion as a human creation
to justify our own existence, the
transformation of a circle into a
triangular shape represents the
perversion of a "whole" through
the human vision and creation:
art as a personalized and twisted
vision of the world.
If we understand life as an infinite game in which there is no
winner or static rules, the only
purpose of this game would be its
own continuity, its mere existence. In this sense, the concept of
life as a twisted maze is synony-
mous of the playful nature of
human beings: homo ludens. In
the same way, we can analyze all
the different elements of our society as a game: the economy (the
stock market, banking, economic
crisis, tax havens, the G-20, ...),
the politics (with its various political parties, the national elections, abuse of power and corruption, invasions, tyranny and war,
...), religions (with their different
doctrines, rituals and conceptions
of paradise) and so many more.
As stated by James P. Carse in his
book Finite and Infinite Games:
"The joyfulness of infinite play, its
laughter, lies in learning to start
something we cannot finish."
