AUTUMN WINTER 2012
A tough but supremely womanly mood dominates autumn winter from bold tailoring which
takes its cue from military and equestrian details to the dark palette that has inspired
evocative winter florals, rich texture mixes and intricate surface decoration. There is a
firm focus on the waist with hourglass silhouettes and crisp peplums. Say hello to autumn's
dark and strong femininity.
MILITARY PRECISION
In a season of standout statement coats, bold tailoring with military and equestrian
flourishes are cantering ahead of the field. Double breasted cuts, fit and flare silhouettes
and neat belts are bringing a strong femininity to traditional tailoring. A mink great coat
with leather lapels has a waist-whittling shape is a winter must-have. Shots of intense
berry red or orange give military inspired shapes a more urban flourish.
DARK ROMANCE
A dark glamour has descended this season with winter florals, a deep forest palette and
textural layers of black. A moody blossom floral appears on satin and chiffon blouses or
a sunray pleat dress with delicate puff sleeves. A dramatic long gown with an embroidered
mesh bodice or ruffled taffeta skirt brings drama to evening.
PERFECT PEPLUMS
With the focus well and truly on the waist, sculptural and crisp peplums have come into
their own. A stunning fuchsia pant suit with black lace overlay is given a dramatic
silhouette with a frilled peplum. While cool biker moto jackets through to shifts in satin
or stretch jersey are adorned with their own hip frills.
HIDE AND SLEEK
Leather emerges as one of the season's key materials in glossy black, rich oxblood or
ultramarine. Intricate detailing gives classic biker jackets a twist - with peplums or bold
silhouettes - a black shearling jacket has quilted sleeves and a dramatic curving hem.
Leather also appears as panels in simple tops and skinny pants contrasted with stretch
jersey or tweed.
HOT METALS
Autumn's opulence shines through with shimmering gold, silver, pewter and bronze from
ornate cocktail dresses sprinkled with sequins and embellished with oversized jewels to
more subtle metallic including coated cable knits, metallic tweeds.
SPORTS ILLUSTRATED
Minimal, sporty but graphic pieces bring a shot of clean modernity to the season. Block
coloured knits, bold and often oversized checks appear in peplum dresses or neatly
tailored coats. A geometric jacquard gives a panelled skater skirt dress gives a nod to
optical print trend.
ACCESSORIES
A clean-cut approach brings a fresh new handwriting to accessories in neat totes in
embossed or plain pony skin and boxy satchels and shoulder saddlebags. Zip details and
ornate surfaces including laser cutting and studding give surface interest. Boots are key
from knee-high military inspired styles to ankle boots that play on the texture contrasts
and more aggressive mood of the new season.
