About the Club
By Mike Rey
MOCSEM President
The Mustang Owners Club of Southeastern Michigan
(MOCSEM) was founded in November 1975 by a
group of individuals with the desire to protect and
preserve the Ford Mustang as one of the most
attractive and fun filled cars ever made. We are
enthusiasts of all ages with a love affair with the
many generations of America’s Premiere Pony Car.
Whether it’s a coupe, convertible or fastback from
1964½ to the 2013 GT or the 2004 Cobra, we love
them all. The mission of club members is to collect,
restore and preserve the history of the Mustang
along with the stories of the people and the roles that
they played in making this one of the great cars of
the 20th Century. Although ownership is not a
requirement for membership, your enthusiasm,
expertise, and / or love of the automobile are most
welcome.
What a journey!
Believe it or not, I am just about speechless. Every time we pull
off something amazing, people always ask the question, "How
can you ever top this?" Well, it seems to be working out pretty
good this year!
Just a couple highlights were the May meeting at the Ford World
Headquarters, and now we just had the July general meeting at
ROUSH! It is just an unbelievable ride we are on, and I do not
see any end in sight! Everything is at its all time high! Special
events -- sponsors, our MCA percentage has broken the
unthinkable 20% membership ratio when less than two years
ago we were at about 7%, and that was with about 200 less total
members! You do the math there. I hope we are making the
MCA proud with our dedication to our effort to grow our MCA
membership!
This year, 100 percent of all of the big shows have their numbers
down, some in excess of 500 cars -- that is a huge drop! While
we can anticipate it will be hard to match our 773 from last year
at Mustang Memories, we are already over 300 preregistrations
with the biggest 3 weeks ahead of us for registering! So by all
means our show will once again be a monster event!
We have a lot of cool surprises for you at this year's show -- and
a couple off-site venues for upcoming meetings along with a
private tour or two in the very near future!
I would like to thank all of the members of this club, my board of
directors, all of the sponsors, and Ford contacts, as everyone is
so supportive and proud of this club. It makes it very easy for me
to strive for excellence and to keep making everyone associated
with our club happy with the relationships we have built! I am
very proud to say that getting compliments from charter
members who have been here for it all makes me feel that our
direction is heading the right way! I am very fortunate that these
amazing things over the last few years have been happening
under my watch -- I have a great team and amazing members!
So let's keep riding this wave right into the very bright future!
Now it is time for me to get back to work on Mustang Memories!
Tons still to do. But working as a team makes it all possible, and
fun besides! Breaking News at the time of this article: Mike Sove
our MCA regional director, just secured a TITLE sponsor for the
club! This is the highest level at which you can be as a sponsor.
Details to follow next month!
Many of our club members own one or more
Mustangs in varying body styles, models and years.
Club members are always exchanging information,
providing sources for parts, literature and helpful
hints for restoring or maintaining their Mustangs. Our
members are a diverse group of individuals, located
throughout Southeastern Michigan and all share a
great appreciation for the Ford Mustang. Our general
membership meetings are held on the second
Tuesday of each month. Our monthly newsletter,
The Accelerator, provides the members with reports
on club activities, technical information,
advertisements and business service locations and
more. Some club activities include car shows,
picnics, sporting events, cruise nights and technical
sessions.

General membership meetings are held the
second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 pm at:

Fantastic Night at

MOCSEM was treated to yet another amazing
experience as ROUSH Performance hosted the July
General Meeting.
ROUSH Performance rolled out the red carpet at
their new headquarters in Plymouth, Michigan,
where members were treated to guided tours of the
facility where ROUSH Mustangs are manufactured.
We were fed a BBQ feast and given special door
prizes featuring the signatures of Jack Roush and
Jack Roush Jr., who was in attendance. It was a real
treat for ROUSH to open up their facility to the club
like this and there were huge smiles on the
estimated 250 members in attendance.
ROUSH even offered special deals on select parts
and half-off installation of ROUSH parts at the
ROUSH Speed Shop, an offer that is good through
September 1st.
Many thanks to Tim Wheeler, VP of Sales and
Marketing for ROUSH Performance, and the rest of
the great folks at ROUSH for providing this special
evening!

The January 1994 Accelerator featured our 1965 Mustang.
At that time it was a work in progress. For the next several
years Bill worked on the car when time and money
permitted. In 1999 we decided it was time to have
someone else start working on the car. We took it to Jim at
Rust Busters in Redford. He work on it for several months
(until the money ran out) and we took the car home. In
2003 we were able to take the car back to Jim to finish.
One of the hardest decisions was what color to paint the
car. The original color was Wimbledon White, but we
wanted something different. After looking at all the
different colors, we decided on a Royal Blue. Since Bill
had told me to pick the color, I had many sleepless nights
worrying about how that color would look. In November,
2003 we picked up our complete 1965 Mustang and
parked it safely in our garage for winter. The following
spring we began taking the car out and enjoying it. This
car was even used in the upcoming movie “Sparkle”.
When Ford came out with the new body style for the 2005
Mustang we talked about getting a new one. We thought it
would be nice to have a 1965 and a 2005 Mustang. Time
passed and we still wanted a newer Mustang. This spring
we decided we were going to do it, if we didn't do it now
we never would. We like the 2013 Mustang and Bill went
to the Taylor Ford to check out what was out there. We
decided to order a car the way we wanted it. We were told
it would be delivered in about 6-8 weeks and then were
th
told the car would be in the week of June 7 . When it
didn't arrive I told Jamie our salesman that I wanted the
th
car by 4:00 pm on June 10 , even though the delivery
th
date was later in the week. On June 10 at 3:30 pm Jamie
called to say the car had just arrived at the dealership.
After a few quick phone calls and a trip to the bank we
were on our way to the dealership in our 65 Mustang to
pick up our new car. While waiting for our salesman to
finish with a customer we enjoyed watching the looks our
65 was getting. One person even lay on the ground to look
under the car. About an hour later after signing all the
paperwork, paying for the car and going over all the new
features, we were ready to leave the dealership. One of
the managers even came out and took pictures of both
cars leaving the dealership. We made it to the MOCSEM
meeting and parked both cars next to each other. What a
pretty site, 2 blue Mustangs 48 years apart glistening in
the sunlight.
I know that there were many members of the club back in
the 90's that thought we would never have a finished car.
It took a little time, but we now have his and hers
Mustangs.
