The experience of buying a car “in a
non-confrontational, laid back, yet professional atmosphere” distinguishes
Classic Chevrolet from other dealerships; in fact, it is the No. 1 volume Chevy dealer in the nation!
This dealership was “built from the

courteously welcomes customers seeking to buy, sell, or service their vehicles.
Previously, Classic Chevrolet has
been chosen #1 Chevy Dealer in the Nation four times, an honor owner Tom
Durant, General Manager Hagen Durant, and General Sales Manager Danny
Hill seek to maintain.

Baylor Regional Medical Center at
Grapevine, which serves 820,000 people in 20 cities in northeast Tarrant
County, has an average door-to-doctor

below national and community averages.
Besides those two notable statistics,
the Baylor Grapevine Emergency Department lays claim to several more accolades including the 2009 Texas

Harris known for discipline, dedication
By Marice Richter
Dennis Harris’ talent for running and
track were discovered during his childhood.
Growing up in a single-family home,
he didn’t have the support of a father to
guide and encourage him. But he said
he had outstanding coaches who nurtured him and prodded him to go the
distance.
Now a track coach at Covenant Christian Academy in Colleyville, Harris
said most of his students don’t come
from similar backgrounds. But he tries
to be an inspiration to them, anyway.
“I always tell them to stay strong and
try to go the next level,” he said. For his
dedication, he was recently named Best
High School Coach for the second
straight year.
Having had excellent coaches helped
Harris earn college scholarships and
make it to the Olympics trials for long
jumping in 1992 and 1996. Not making
the Olympics was a disappointment,
particularly after all his hard work and
training.

Best High School Coach was
awarded to Dennis Harris
with Covenant Christian
Academy in Colleyville. This
is the second year in a row
that Coach Harris has won
this award.
But the discipline and dedication he
learned are lifetime lessons, which he
continues to impress upon his students.
“As our track coach for the past eight
years, Dennis has taken our students to
incredible heights of achievement, winning five girls’ state championships and
eight boys’ state championships. We
are thankful for his service,” said Justice Kerr, principal of Covenant high
school.
Harris grew up in Killeen and became
a standout athlete at Blinn College in
Brenham and then at Louisiana State
University.
Prior to joining the faculty at Covenant in 2002, he taught and coached at
Euless Junior High School for six years.
He has also helped coach track at Trinity High School.
Besides coaching, Harris teaches elementary-level physical education at
Covenant.
“I really love coaching and teaching,
particularly in a Christian school environment,” he said.

Jackson known for his passion of history
By Marice Richter
Rick Jackson took a roundabout
path into teaching, but he is happy that
he made it.
Jackson’s dedication to his students
at Covenant Christian Academy is evident in their achievement as well as
honors he has received for an outstanding job. Besides being named
Best Teacher, he was named a Master
Teacher by consensus of parents,
school officials and his peers.
Now in his fifth year at Covenant
Christian Academy in Colleyville,
Jackson teaches U.S. history to 7th
and 8th graders and to high school seniors. He previously taught at another
private school and in the Birdville and
Grapevine-Colleyville school districts.
He is also a varsity football coach
and junior high basketball coach at
Covenant.
“His love for his students and sub-
ject area are truly inspirational,” said
Justice Kerr, principal of Covenant
high school.
Jackson grew up in Hurst and graduated from L.D. Bell High School. He
graduated from Baylor University,
with no clear career path. A scuba diving enthusiast, he moved to Hawaii,
where he spent seven years teaching
diving and driving a tour boat.
After marrying and starting a family, he realized he needed a more stable
life. So he returned to Texas and
worked in a family business for several years. When an opportunity came
up to work in the Birdville school district came along, he took it. He’s been
teaching now for more than a dozen
years.
“My life revolves around school,”
he said. “I feel very fortunate to be
here and to do something I really
love.”

In December, Sunbelt Gymnastics
hosted its annual fun competition for students four years and above, who performed on gymnastics apparatus, receiving scores, medals, and trophies for their
efforts. All proceeds were donated to the
Children of the Night foundation, a private, non-profit organization dedicated
to housing and educating runaway children between 11 and 17 years old.
The Children of the
Night is located in a renovated post office in Van
Nuys, California. The
renovation includes a
dormitory and class-
rooms, and the organization’s ultimate
goal is to educate these children so they
may pass their GED exam and apply for
college. The Children of the Night also
maintains a 24-hour hotline for children
needing assistance. Although located in
Southern California, children travel and
call in from all reaches of the country, including Texas.
“Although we have made donations to
this organization in the past, this year
Cindy [Sunbelt’s co-owner with husband
Ron] and I on Christmas Eve were able to
tour the facility, meet the director, and
have Christmas dinner with several of the
children,” says Ron Bartusiak, owner
and president.
“I was quite impressed with the work
that founding director Dr. Lois Lee has
done with these kids. This is an organization more people should be aware of.”

It’s a winning philosophy: create an
experience that makes children unafraid of the dentist while teaching
them to make oral health a priority. Davis Pediatric Dentistry does this with a
kid-friendly office and a staff who
takes great care in managing your children’s smiles.
The waiting room instantly relaxes
anxious children with its video game
area and wide variety of CDs and
DVDs to listen to and watch. They can
even watch movies while their teeth are
being worked on. Parents are encouraged to be with their child during a dental procedure.
Interest in a child’s good dental

Muller answered the call for service three times
Best Government
Official
Pamela Muller
Southlake
Councilwoman
By Marice Richter
Pamela Muller moved to Southlake
in the early 1980s, at a time when livestock likely outnumbered humans as
residents.
She was drawn by the peacefulness
and simplicity and immediately fell in
love with her new home. Muller had
no burning desire to enter politics or
the public spotlight, but when it became clear that growth was inevitable,
she chose to have a stake in how it
would play out.
Muller, who was recently named
Best Public Official for the second
straight year, is serving on the South-
lake City Council for the third time in
the 27 years she has lived in the city.
“I like to see things through,” she
said. “I’m proud to have had the opportunity to be on the council when so
many important decisions were
made.”
Muller’s first stint on the council
was from 1988-90, when the council
implemented the first master plan and
hired the first city manager. She was
elected again and served from 199598, when decisions were made about
the development of Southlake Town
Square and Bob Jones Park.
Elected for the third time in 2008,
she is now involved with the process
of creating the 2030 master plan and
the development of a major new development on the north side of State
Highway 114.
“Pamela is so dedicated to the city
and the welfare of this community,”
said her long-time friend Kim Clancy.
“She really gives 100 percent of herself.”
Besides her work on the council,
Muller also volunteers with Southlake
Citizens on Patrol and with Fire Rehab, a group that provides food and
other assistance to firefighters as they
battle structure fires. She also volunteers as an aide providing income tax
assistance to elderly and low-income
residents.
“I love Southlake and I’m honored
to have been part of the process of
helping it become the great community it is,” she said.

Customers seeking a change from
Tex-Mex cuisine will enjoy ordering at
Gloria’s, a Salvadoran/Mexican food
establishment.
Jose Fuentes explains, “The Salvadoran food is a bit different from Mexican and Tex-Mex food because we use
black beans a lot. Also, fried plantain,
yucca, and tamales are way different
since ours are wrapped in banana
leaves and are therefore more tender.
Our pupusas are like Mexican tacos in
popularity.”
In addition to great food, the Colleyville location of Gloria’s offers Havana
Nights each Friday and Saturday,
spiced to perfection by the Cuban Orquesta Caribbean Band, from 11:00
