Curriculum Plan Who We Are Professional Nursing Program Nurse Residency Track Six Semester Option Jersey College was founded in 2003 as a private postsecondary institution dedicated to providing quality education that prepares our students for specific professional fields. Jersey College has five campuses. Our main campus is located in Teterboro, New Jersey. Our branch campuses are located in Ewing, New Jersey; Tampa, Florida; Jacksonville, Florida; and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Each campus focuses on developing our students’ skills, knowledge base and intellectual interest in select nursing disciplines. The Nurse Residency Track of the Professional Nursing program is offerred at our instructional service center located in Largo Medical Center. The institution was started to address the growing shortage in qualified health care professionals. Our mission is to bridge the labor gap occurring in demand occupations and to train competent professionals who are well prepared to enter the job market. The program consists of course work in nursing, science, general education, and clinical practice at select health care institutions. The Nurse Residency Track is an on-site hospital-based Registered Nursing program through an affiliation between Largo Medical Center and Jersey College. The goals of the Nurse Residency Track are to: n n n n n n n rovide pathways for individuals seeking to enter the P nursing profession; roduce competent nurses prepared to enter the acute care P setting and other healthcare environments; omplement and supplement graduate nursing residency C programs established at hospitals; ssimilate the nursing values and philosophies of our affiliated A hospitals into the nursing curriculum; xpose students to patients and the healthcare environment E early in the nursing program with an emphasis on bedside care delivered to patients; ffer students opportunities to learn about the inner workings O of a hospital; and stablish a pipeline of nursing graduates for associated E hospitals that have been orientated to their mission, goals and nursing philosophies. Program Philosophy The Professional Nursing curriculum is based on holistic nursing and incorporates Sr. Callista Roy’s Adaptation Model (RAM) and the Evidence-Based Practice Impact Model described by Brown (2009) for the provision of nursing care. Our students learn to understand the importance of addressing the physical, emotional, social, economic, and spiritual needs of the patient in an ever-changing, complex society. Admission Requirements** It is our goal to graduate students who exhibit distinctive characteristics valued by their community of interest. To accomplish this goal, the following admission criteria has been established: n At the conclusion of the Nurse Residency Track, graduates are expected to understand the patient care system, nursing philosophy and healthcare initiatives of the hospital, and have developed collegial and professional relationships with members of Largo Medical Center. The graduate of the Nure Residency Track will earn an Associate Degree in Nursing and will be eligible to apply for the NCLEX-RN™ examination to become licensed as a Registered Nurse. Accreditation and Licenses Jersey College is accredited by the Commission of the Council on Occupational Education*, a national accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education.
