October 2008 - Firelands Federal Credit Union
Credit Union Safe & Strong Through Troubled Times
With reports in the news of some financial institutions facing losses
and other problems due to subprime mortgage lending and the credit
crunch, you may be wondering about the financial stability of places
where you do business. We’d like to reassure you that Firelands Federal
Credit Union remains strong, safe and secure.

We continue our commitment to provide you with excellent financial
products and services, and we have the resources to back up that pledge.
Our sound lending practices and service-oriented policies allow us to
continue to prosper even during troubled economic times.
You can enjoy added peace of mind knowing that your deposits are
federally insured through the National Credit Union Administration
(NCUA), a U.S. government agency. The NCUA is backed by the full faith
and credit of the U.S. government. Not one penny of insured savings
has ever been lost by a member of a federally insured credit union. Each
account holder’s funds are insured to at least $100,000, and retirement
accounts such as individual retirement accounts are separately insured
up to $250,000.

Would You Move And Not
Tell Your Best Friend?
Whether you’re moving around the block or across the
country, it’s important to tell your friends where you are going.
Firelands Federal Credit Union is one of your most valuable
friends when it comes to “vouching” for your identity. Recent
regulations require the Credit Union, along with many other
entities, to help protect you from identity theft. Part of that
protection is that we reconcile the address you’ve provided
to us with the address provided to us any time we request a
consumer report. This makes it imperative that you provide
the Credit Union and all other institutions you may call your
“financial friends” with your most current address.
Rest assured, Firelands Federal Credit Union will never share
your address with a third party, however, when you apply for
a loan, a checking account, or open a new account we verify
your application information with the information provided
through various (HTSE SEMRES) consumer reporting
agencies. Beginning November 1, 2008, if the address you
provided to us does not match the address on record with
the reporting agency, we will be required to obtain additional
information from you to validate your identity.
Tell us first and SAVE $10.00 when you move! You’ll save a
lot of hassle and a $10.00 Finder’s Fee assessed by the Credit
Union if you notify us of your address change before we are
required to validate an address mismatch from a third party
(for example a forwarding notice from the United States
Postal Service). The Finder’s Fee is assessed to offset the cost
of validation which will include mailings to your old and new
address as well as a required response on your part.
If your address is changing, stop in and fill out an address
change request or go to www.firelandsfcu.org and print off a
form to complete, have it notarized and mail it back to us.
