Welcome to Kidz Scotland 2014
A very warm welcome to our first Kidz Scotland event!
After fourteen very successful years of organising the Kidz events, Disabled Living is delighted to add
this new event to our Kidz portfolio for the first time. This free exhibition offers visitors from as far as
Cumbria, the Lake District, right up to the Highlands of Scotland as well as much further afield, easier
access to our Kidz events. With over 95 exhibitors this event is a one stop shop, offering the most up
to date advice and information on equipment, products, funding, services and much, much more.
You will find a full list of exhibitors in stand number order and a floor plan on the centre pages of this
guide as well as an A-Z list of exhibitors with more detailed information to the rear of this showguide.
A full programme of free CPD seminars will also take place throughout the day. The seminars offer
visitors the opportunity to develop their knowledge and understanding of a wide range of topics such
as: sleep issues, challenging behaviour, continence, transition and much more. The full timetable can
be viewed on page 5 of this guide.
Of course, in this difficult economic climate, obtaining funding to buy much of the equipment on show
is increasingly difficult. Don’t forget to visit the Funding Point (stand numbers:- F16, F17, F18) where
you can access information on alternative funding streams for equipment and much more.
For more information and updates on all our Kidz events contact the Kidz Team at the main
registration area, or at Disabled Living (details below).
You can also visit our website
www.kidzexhibitions.co.uk
We do hope you find your visit useful and informative
and we look forward to seeing you again in the not too
distant future.

Sleep Scotland Model - A Cognitive Behavioural Approach to
Sleep Problems
Making Transitions Successful
Children and young people with additional support needs are more
at risk of developing sleep problems. Sleep Scotland, promotes
healthy sleep in children and young people through education,
sleep counselling and awareness. This seminar will look at the
Sleep Scotland model of intervention, the importance of sleep and
approaches to help teach children how to get a good night’s sleep.
Following the publication of the 'Principals Of Good Transition 1
& 2', The Scottish Transitions Forum and Capability Scotland will
deliver a joint presentation outlining the principals and examining
their application in practice. Our aim is to fundamentally change
the way we support young people with additional support needs
to make the transition into young adulthood. Participants will
gain a better understanding of the principals and have the
opportunity to share best practice .

Self-Directed Support - What’s in it for Children and
Families? Looking at the issues with The Open
University in Scotland
This seminar will outline the legislative framework and
national guidance relating to moving and handling of children The Self-directed Support (Scotland) Act 2013 has transformed
and consider what is meant by 'a safe weight' and 'balanced the way social care is commissioned and delivered in Scotland,
12.30
enabling service users to manage their own health and wellbeing
decision making'. It will look at safer handling principles
by giving them choice, control and independence. With support
and techniques that can be applied in a range of child
from the Scottish Government, The Open University has
handling situations whether at home, school or out and
developed a free online course to help everyone involved get to
about. It will give examples of real life scenarios to illustrate
grips with the new legislation in the wider context of
how applying safer handling principles and using the right
personalisation. This seminar will provide a brief overview of the
equipment can enable a child's access to a variety of
course, which includes additional content focusing on children
different activities whilst reducing risks of injury to parents,
and families. Its aim is to help understand the origins of the new
Social Care Act, the principles that it is based on and its
carers and children.

Equipment for Disabled and Terminally ill Children; The
route to provision
2.30
There are at least a quarter of a million disabled and terminally ill
children living in the UK without the essential equipment they need.
While technology continues to develop to be able to support and
enable some of the most profoundly disabled children in the country
to thrive, accessing this equipment is becoming increasingly
difficult. In a world of tightening budgets, how do children get the
right equipment at the right time?
