LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR
Each year we choose a theme for camp meeting. Often these themes are spiritual
in nature and focus on a particular part of our faith walk. This year is a bit
different however as our theme is “The Beginning of the End.” At first it smacks
of pessimism, but it is a reflection of the thinking of many Christians today. When
we see the brokenness of families, violent shootings in almost every type of setting
from schools to offices, and homes. When we see the persecution of the Christian
church world wide at the hands of groups like Islamic State, you cannot help
but wonder if this is the beginning of the end. And so many of the events, their
locations and the governments involved seem to jump right off the pages of the
Scriptures.
What are we to do as God’s people? How should we feel? The verse chosen for
this year’s theme speaks to that exactly. Matthew 24:14 says “..and the gospel of the
Kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end
will come.” Here Jesus is speaking as one who can see the future and knows the
outcome, and what does he say the church will be doing? Preaching the Gospel
of course! That is what we are here for. That is the purpose Christ gave us before
he ascended into heaven. In Acts 1:8 Jesus tells the disciples “... But you will receive
power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in
all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Jesus commissioned his followers
at that time to go out and make a difference, and he would empower them to be
able to do the job.

BEGINNING
OF THE END
As followers of Christ today, we have that same commission and that same power
to make a difference. That generation and many subsequent generations brought
the Gospel to Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, and began to push toward the ends
of the earth. In our day, that mission seems almost complete, yet we see such a
need for the Gospel in our world today. Obviously, we aren’t finished yet! This
year, Herndon Campmeeting will continue to do it’s part, as we have for over one
hundred years, to share the Gospel to all who will listen. I believe we could be in
store for an amazing campmeeting this year. Be in prayer with the Association
Board that we will see souls won at campmeeting this year, and that through our
efforts we can help spread the Gospel to the ends of the earth.

EVANGELISTS
Bert Jones
July 22-26, 7 p.m. Nightly
As president and CEO of GO InterNational in Wilmore, KY,
Bert Jones travels the U.S. and the world preaching, leading
mission teams, teaching, and speaking at churches, revivals,
mission conferences, and camp meetings. He is the third
generation of his family to be involved in fulltime ministry and
evangelism and has a deep passion for helping people fulfill the
Great Commission. A frequent speaker at Lancaster’s Rawlinsville Camp Meeting, Bert
has also been involved in radio ministry, church planting, and leadership development.
He and his wife Cheryl have three children actively involved in their ministry: Joshua,
Allyson, and Aaron.
Bishop Bruce Hill
July 27-31, 7 p.m. Nightly
Prior to being elected Bishop, he served as Lead Pastor of
Community Evangelical Church, Sinking Spring, PA from
2003-11. Bruce served as the Chief Executive Officer of the
Evangelical Congregational Church Retirement Village (19952003). He also pastored the Hosensack E.C. Church (1977-82)
and the Bridgeville E.C. Church (1982-95). He is a graduate of
United Wesleyan College and holds a Master of Divinity degree from Evangelical
Theological Seminary. Bruce and his wife Gloria are the parents of three grown
children and grandparents of nine. They live in Richland, PA.
BIBLE TEACHER
Dr. Kenneth H. Miller
July 25-29, 10 a.m. in Tabernacle
Dr. Miller has recently retired as a Professor of Christian Theology at Evangelical Seminary in Myerstown, pastor of St. Paul’s
EC Church in Rothsville, and author of a book on EC doctrine.
His Herndon studies this year will focus on the book of Colossians. A Penn State alum and devoted fan, Ken is also an avid
golfer. He and his wife Julie have two daughters and a grandson.

BIBLE DISCUSSION LEADER
Dr. Doug Buckwalter
July 25-29, 3 p.m. in Dining Hall
Doug returns to lead another season of interactive Bible discussions.
He is Professor of New Testament at Evangelical Seminary and editor
of The Evangelical Journal. Doug enjoys running, scuba diving,
and spending time with his wife Keri, three adult children, and new
granddaughter.
SPIRITUAL DIRECTORS
Rev. Todd Wolfe
Todd Wolfe is the pastor at St. Paul’s and Zion E.C. Churches in Pitman, Pa.
Currently he is serving his community as a local EMT and chaplain. He has
been blessed to be married to his beautiful high school sweetheart, Heather,
for the last 22 years. Todd is honored & stressed to have 3 children in his
household: Madolin (20yo), Gwendolin (17yo) and Guitara (9mo).
Rev. Brad Hatter
Rev. Hatter is the pastor of the Herndon/Mandata Charge of the E.C.
Church. He resides in Millersburg with his beautiful and supportive wife
Tonya, to whom he has been married for 4 years. Pastor Brad and Tonya
have been blessed with two children, a son Micah (3) and a daughter Ellie
(born 4/21/2016).

Willow Creek is a bluegrass band led by Bill Schaffer of Coopersburg, PA. They
have been featured at the Appalachian Fiddle and Bluegrass Association (AFBA)
annual festival in Wind Gap, PA and at their monthly shindigs.
Willow Creek plays classic bluegrass with energy and soul. They have a good time
playing their music, and their audiences just can’t help but get caught up in the fun.
Witness has been presenting the gospel of Christ
in musical programs throughout the tri-state area for
over three decades. Drawing on extensive ministry
experience, they share the Word and bring personal
testimony. Through the vehicle of music, their
purpose is to reach out to hurting hearts with messagefilled songs.
During each evening service, the children will be dismissed for their own programs led
by Tracy Fetzer (weekends) and Margie Marsh (week nights).
Monday through Friday, there will be a 10 a.m. Children’s Bible Hour under the
direction of Diana Strohecker (3 year olds), Cheryl Weaver (ages 4-5), Marsha and
Hannah Eichelberger (ages 6-8), and Connie Fry and Kathy Selner (ages 9-12).
Mike Maurer leads the teens in their weekday 10 a.m. Bible study and 1:30 afternoon
activities. Youth Night on July 24 features our young people in the service’s opening
segment.
Herndon Campmeeting values its youth…not only because they are our future, but
also because they are an important part of our campmeeting today! Bring your children,
grandchildren, nieces, nephews and neighborhood children and introduce them to the
excitement of a summer week at Herndon!

directly behind the platform. A ministry
sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary, the store is open every day (except
Sunday) following services. The annual Auxiliary meeting is Wednesday

Dinner meals will be served at 5:00
p.m. each day. Children under 6 years
of age, free. Children 6 through 12
years of age, half price.
