FR JOSEPH GEDEON has been appointed
by Archbishop Fisher as the new
Administrator of St Jerome Punchbowl. Fr
Joseph was born in Lebanon to a family of 4
children. He has 3 sisters. After 8 years
working as an I.T. consultant he felt the
calling to the priesthood. Fr Joseph was ordained a Deacon in
2009. On the 11th June 2010 Fr Joseph was ordained a priest.
After his ordination to the priesthood he was appointed assistant
priest at St John the Baptist in Bonnyrigg. He then went to
Rome for 3 years of study. Fr Joseph has returned to Sydney to
his latest appointment – assistant priest for the Parishes of
Sydney Harbour North.
FIRST EUCHARIST. Children have now been enrolled
in the First Eucharist sacramental program. These
children will receive their First Eucharist on Sunday, 12
June. Please keep these children in your prayers.

together and made into blankets to be donated to St
Vincent De Paul. Also, thank you to the generous
parishioners who donate 8ply yarn. The knitting
group meet in the meeting room under the church on Saturdays

HEALING AND HOPE AFTER ABORTION: Dr Theresa Burke, founder

The feast of the Body and Blood of Christ celebrates the central celebration of Christianity – the Eucharist. All three readings relate to
this Eucharistic theme. In the second reading, we have the first written account of the Last Supper and what came to be seen as
Jesus instigating the Eucharist. Paul’s account, written well before the gospels, was entrenched in the tradition by the time the
gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke echoed these words of Jesus at the Last Supper. Of course, it is these same words that are
spoken by the priest at the consecration in the Eucharistic Prayer each Mass. The words used today are the very same words that
have been used in the Church for two millennia.
Rather than a gospel account of the Last Supper to celebrate the feast of the Body and Blood of Christ, we are presented with what is
widely regarded as another ‘Eucharistic’ story from the gospel of Luke. The feeding of the five thousand with five loaves and two fish
is regarded as a Eucharistic story because it was a clear example of God’s presence in a miraculous meal. All of the meal stories in
the gospel of Luke are instructive for the audience. Whenever the gospel writer refers to a meal, the meal is used to teach about the
reign of God. The gospel writer uses meals to demonstrate who is welcome in the reign of God. Like in today’s gospel, the author of
Luke’s gospel was keen to show that the reign of God is available to anyone who wishes to be a part of it. The reign of God is
inclusive and welcoming; no one will be turned away.
