New playground is open for business

The playground is officially open for business - $175, 000 worth of playground equipment was recently
installed at Kenesaw Public School. This has been made possible thanks to the funding of the Hoops
Tournament and several grants the school has received. The old equipment was taken down a few
weeks before the start of school. Rain delayed the start of construction, which began August 26, 2015,
and was finished August 28, 2015. Eli Jensen said, “It was worth the wait; it is magnificent!”
The students are not going to have to worry about falling on hard cement or rocks. Rubber from old
tires were recycled for the base of the equipment. There were 30 tons of rubber used. Baylen Johnson
really likes the rubber tires, saying, “It feels so much better on your feet than the rocks.” The high school
students did their part in getting the equipment up and running; they used their spare time to help
spread the tires.
The kids are really excited about the new equipment. They say the new playground is "good" and it
"feels safer.” Their favorite parts of the playground are the spinning disks and sphere, swings, balancing
ropes, and the circle monkey bars. Gracie Coffey said, “ I really like the banana. You can go flying.”
A special thanks goes to Dostals Construction for building our new playground. Old equipment did
not go to waste. It was donated to Christ Lutheran Church and School in Juniata. The Christ Lutheran
kids really like the new swings .

Volume IV, Issue 2

Homecoming week came early this fall,
starting on September 8th. Students participated
in dress-up days to show off their true spirit for
Kenesaw athletics. Due to Labor Day on Monday
September 7th falling on the week of Homecoming, the students missed out on one dress up day,
but that didn’t stop them from going over the top
this year. Dress-up days were as follows: Class
Color Day, Elderly Day, Twin/Triplet Day, and
lastly, the obvious, Spirit Day.
Grades 7-12 also participated in the decorating wall and float competition. In the wall competition, the Freshmen came in third, Juniors in
second, and in first place were the seventh graders. In the float competition,
the Juniors came in third, the Seniors in the second spot, and in first place
were the Sophomores.
Following the parade, the Juniors prepared a skit, using the classic
game of “Musical Chairs.” The fighting for the chairs got to be very competitive, but the last man standing was Junior, Bricyn Jameson. After the skit,
was the Homecoming coronation. Royalty included Kelsey Jaeschke, Brielle
Schneider, Staci Weavers, Rose Wehrman, Jack Duffy, Red Johnson, Preston
Schnitzler, and Carson Woodman. Rose Wehrman, daughter of Peg and Bill
Wehrman, was crowned Homecoming Queen, and the honor of Homecoming King was passed down to Jack Duffy, son of Sharon and Paul Duffy.
On Friday night, the Blue Devil football team went head to head with the
Overton Eagles. The boys finished out the night with a victory over the Eagles, 61-0. Directly after the game, was the traditional Homecoming dance to
finish off the big week.

Carson Lee Woodman, son of Brent and Sarah Woodman, is involved in football,
basketball, track, K-Club, band, choir, and FBLA. He plans to attend the University
of Nebraska-Kearney where he plans to major in education. Outside of school, he
enjoys hanging out with friends, hunting, and fishing. When he was asked what he
will miss most about high school, he replied with “just sports.” He would like to
give the underclassman the advice, “Apply for college early and take as many ACTs
as you can.” Carson said that Mrs. Mousel’s math classes have helped him because
“she is strict, and she gets you ready for college.”
Kids’ Corner
Jacob Douglas Brunk is the son of Douglas Brunk and Leslee Deisley. He plans on
attending the University of California-Santa Cruz, but he is still undecided about
his future career. Jake participates in football, wrestling, track, FBLA, and K-Club.
In his free time, Jake enjoys listening to music, playing guitar, and hanging out with
friends. Jake said he will miss sports the most about high school. If Jake could give
the underclassmen any advice, it would be, “Don’t care so much about what people
think about you here in high school because in high school, none of that should matter.” Jake lives by the quote, “One life to live, so I’m going to live it.” When he was
asked what class has prepared him the most for the future he answered “all of them.”
Preston Red Johnson is the son of Travis and Julie Johnson. He participates in football, wrestling, track, K-Club, and FBLA. Preston is commonly known as “Red” by
everybody throughout the school. He plans on attending the University of NebraskaKearney, where he plans on majoring in Physical Education. In his free time, Red enjoys hanging out with his friends and playing sports. When asked what he will miss
most about high school he replied, “Those Friday night lights, being out on the field
with my best friends, and my second family.” He would like to give the underclassmen the advice of “Apply for scholarships as soon as possible, and work hard while
still in high school.” Red feels that all of the teachers have prepared him for college
because some are strict, and some are “chill,” making class more enjoyable.
Senior Profiles
Brielle Elisa Schneider, daughter of Randy and Eva Schneider, participates in, volleyball, basketball, track, K-Club, Choir, Student Council, Wellness Committee, and
FBLA. Brielle is commonly known as “Breezy” throughout the school. She plans on
attending University of Nebraska-Kearney where she plans on becoming a pediatric
nurse. Outside of school, Brielle enjoys playing sports and hanging out with friends.
When asked what she will miss the most about high school, she replied with basketball and the “easy” homework compared to the work she expects to get in college.
Brielle would love to give the underclassman the advice, “Always work hard.” Advice
from the teachers and coaches have prepared her the most for her future at college.
Brielle’s favorite memory from high school is her being able to spend time with her
teammates.

Booster Club Bits…..
The past month has been all about promoting school spirit at KHS!
The Booster Club provided tattoos to all Elementary students to sport on Homecoming
game day, as well as provided drinks to all K-12 students and staff after the Homecoming Pep Rally. A float was decorated for the parade thanks to Booster Club members.
Spirit items such as necklaces and bracelets were also donated to the cheerleaders and
dancers to throw out to the crowd during the football game. Kenesaw drink cups were
provided to the cheer and dance squads, and candy messages were provided to the Cross
Country, Football, and Volleyball teams and coaches, as well as all teachers and staff.
The Booster Club Kick-off BBQ was held in the park in August. A free hot dog meal was
provided. There was plenty of Blue Devil spirit as the football, volleyball and cross country teams were introduced, along
with the new dance and cheer squads. The new Blue Devil mascot was unveiled and a contest was held to give him a name.
A new line of clothing was introduced at the BBQ, and a new website is up and going to access all your spirit wear! Check it
out at https://shirtshack.itemorder.com/ Spirit items and clothing were donated as prizes to the Kenesaw Foundation
Alumni Golf Scramble during Wasenek Weekend. Booster Club also hosted and donated prizes for Bingo.
Upcoming events will include serving supper to the teachers and staff during parent-teacher conferences.

Kenesaw welcomes back
Cheerleaders after 23 years absence

One of the new additions for the 2015-16 sports seasons is the
cheerleaders. They're hoping to bring spirit to the fans and players
throughout the year. Brianna Ditsworth, member of cheer squad,
says some of her main goals is to work her hardest to bring the
team together and help her teammates out. "Three important rules
to being a cheerleader are be cheery, don't be involved in drama,
and have a good attitude during practices and any games," said
Ditsworth.
The cheerleaders will be using many different cheers and signs for the games. On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays
the cheerleaders meet at 7 o'clock before school and learn new cheers and rehearse the ones they have learned in previous
practices. "It's hard work, but it will pay off in the end," Says Coach Molly Engelhardt. The cheerleaders created the locker
signs for the sports teams and club activities as well.
PROJECT DC/NY & POST PROM FUNDRAISING
The 2016 Project DC/NY and Post Prom students will be selling Butter Braids & Village Pies to help with associated costs.
The sell dates will be October 2nd October 16th. A variety of flavors are available, and Thanksgiving is right around the
corner. There will be a table set up on October 16th at both the volleyball and football games if you live out of town, or the
juniors will be going door-to-door. Delivery will be the week of November 12, 2015.

Kenesaw Football Team looks to gain momentum with 1-2 record

The Kenesaw Football Team looks to gain momentum with a 1-2 record. The
team suffered a tough loss in the season opener against Exeter-Milligan, losing 40-46 in
overtime. The team then traveled to Lawrence-Nelson and again came out with a tough
loss, 8-20. The team came into the first home game (Homecoming) fired up and ready to
get a win under their belts. The Blue Devils finished out the night with a 61-0 victory
over Overton.
When asked what has been the main focus in practices after coming off the 0-2
start, Head Coach Craig Schnitzler replied, “The main focus is execution on both sides of
the ball. We’ve also made some adjustments on our blocking schemes, and also just getting back to playing physical football." Senior Jake Brunk, an End on both offense and
defense, thinks the team is doing well but also said, “There are some little things that
need to be cleaned up, and we need
to make sure we finish out the year
100% focused.” Some goals of the team are to finish out the season undefeated, win
districts, and go deep into the playoffs.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Blue Devils are averaging 36 points and 260
rushing yards per game. Senior Preston Schnitzler and junior Austin Anderson are leading the team in rushing yards, with Austin rushing for 194 total yards (64.7 per game)
and Preston with 330 total yards (165 per game). Sophomore Tyson Burr leads the team
in receiving with 125 total yards (41.7 per game). On the defensive side of the game, sophomore Daniel Duffy leads the team with 42 total tackles (14 per game). Right behind
Duffy is senior Carson Woodman with 41 total tackles (13.7 per game). “Playing football
is greatest thing about high school. I love being out there with my team and my second
family. I wouldn’t trade it for anything," said Tyson Burr.
Lady Blue Devils work to
improve their season

The Lady Blue Devils have a had a rough start to
the season with a 3-8 start, but Mr. Kroos feels
that it is the consistency they need to work on.
Mr. Kroos does feel, though, that the girls are
coming together well as a team and says that it’s
all just a learning process. Brielle Schneider said
“We have a lot of young girls but we have a lot of time to improve.”
Senior Staci Weavers is currently leading the team in kills with 47 total (2 per
set), with Senior Brielle Schneider close behind with 41 total (1.6 per set).
Freshman Hannah Schnitzler leads the team with 32 total ace serves. Leading
the team in digs is Junior Kendra Nunn with 84.
The team’s Seniors include Brielle Schneider, Kelsey Jaeschke, and Staci Weavers, Johanna Kjolseth, Lea Kunze, Emma Fischer, Emilie Ronvik, Signe Norrby.
The Juniors are Dariana Burr, Kendra Nunn, Malena, Goldenstein, Madi
Bittfield, and Brianna Ditsworth. The Sophomores are Whitney Hansen, Jessica Kuehn, Vicky Wehrman, Victoria Ramsey, Kaedra Schleeman, Teya Sidders,
Lacy Gamble, Jamie Peshek, and Kelsey Robinson. The Freshmen round out
the team with Nyah Jones, Hannah Schnitzler, Haley Schukei, and Ashley
Uden.

Cross Country off to a running start

When asked what are some expectations he has for his runners this season, first-year head coach Mr. Morgan responded,"Every meet I expect my runners to improve their own times to better themselves and the team." Mr.
Morgan also added,"I believe this year will be a great learning season for our young runners." This years team consists
of Juniors Caleb Weiler, Kelsey Brundage, and Taylor Riemersma; Sophomores Jacob Weiler and Ethan Stade; and
Freshmen Noah Belz and Parker Bittfield. So far this year the team has competed at Gibbon, Loup City, and Ravenna.

Junior High Volleyball aims to be
fundamentally sound
Junior High Football Team looks to
gain experience

The young Junior High Volleyball
Team is focusing on the fundamentals.
The team looks to perform the fundamentals correctly, to work the passset-spike option close to every play,
and they also look to be victorious in
their games. The team always has little fundamentals to learn, so
they spend time fine tuning their skills. When asked on how practice is going, Mrs. Engelhardt said, “We need to practice on
‘talking’ to teammates while on the court as well as needing to
practice our ability to move quickly.” The team lost their season
opener to Christ Lutheran in two sets: 17-25, 18-25. On September
17, the girls faced Gibbon; the B team
won (15-25, 25-22, 25-18) and the A
team lost (25-20, 18-25, 23-25). The
following week the team faced Shelton
and Silver Lake. The girls won both of
their games against Shelton (B team 2510, 18-25, 15-12) (A team 25-17, 25-14).
The both teams also won against Silver
Lake (B team 25-23, 25-21) (A team 259, 25-23).
The Junior High Football Team in
the fourth year of their merger with
Silver Lake, looks to add depth and
experience to the roster. When
asked about the strengths coming
into the year, Coach Einrem said, “I believe we have some depth
at the skill positions and that should be a big advantage going
into the season.” Also, one key to the season will be to quickly
improve the offensive line. Though they have had limited practices, Einrem says that there has been a lot of intensity. The
team hopes to improve every day and become a good football
team. The football team won their first game against Heartland
Lutheran 22-0 and lost the following week 24-20 to Shelton.
