“Caring, Nurturing, Preparing, Sharing”
Principal’s Message….
During the month of October, we have been busy supporting initiatives organized by
our Me to We leadership group. The month was dubbed ‘Socktober’ as classes
challenged each other to bring in the most pairs of warm socks in an effort to fill the
display case to the top. This was an incredibly successful event bringing in a total of
over 1500 pairs of socks to be donated to youth and women’s shelters. There will be a
lot more warm feet this winter thanks to the generosity of Courtice North students
and their families! Thank you to the organizers and to all of you who supported this
initiative.
Lots of fun was had on October 30th, Orange and Black and Crazy Hat Day. In
addition to classroom activities, primary students did the Monster Mash in the gym,
kindergarten students participated in Hallowe’en circuit activities and intermediate
students held a dance, the entrance fee for which was a non-perishable food item.
Donated goods will be given to the ‘We Scare Hunger’ Campaign.
As I write this message, all of the students in grades three through six are
participating in Mathletes, a
day of math activities
designed to show that math
can be fun. Students, who are November

Safe Arrival
Program
At Courtice North, the safety
of our students is first and
foremost. We have voicemail
for the Safe
Arrival Program
so that you may
leave a message
anytime during
the day or night. Call the
night before if you know your
child will be sick. The Safe
Arrival extension is ext. 40. If
your child arrives late, please
remind him or her to report
to the office on their way to
class, so we can record on the
attendance form that your
child has arrived safely.
Thank you!
You can still order school portraits at MyLifetouch.ca. Online
orders will be shipped home when
there is a shipping fee applied to
the order and will ship to school if
there is no shipping fee applied.

Remembrance Day
We will be featuring Remembrance Day in our display cabinet in
the front foyer in November. We are looking for items of interest
(ie. photos) from the community. If you have items to share, they
would be welcome. Please label (if possible) and bring to the office.
Courtice North Milk Program
Do you enjoy a nice cold cup of white milk or chocolate milk with
your nutritious snacks and lunch? Then Courtice North has just
what you need. Monthly order forms are being sent home for milk
sales. A 250ml re-sealable carton of milk is only 85 cents. At this
time, no day of sales are available, only presales. Cash or a cheque
made out to Courtice North Public School will be accepted. Watch
your child’s backpacks for the order forms.
Bullying Awareness Week
This year November 23rd to November 27th has been designated Bullying Awareness Week.
While character initiatives and inclusion are a focus throughout the school year, various activities will be organized during this week to shine an even brighter spotlight on this important topic. Young people who stand up and speak out against bullying in all its forms can
be a powerful force for good, particularly as much of the bullying that takes place happens
beyond the view of the adults. When students stand up for each other, the bully loses his/her
power. As we work in school with our students to focus on anti-bullying messages, we hope
that as parents and guardians you will join us in confronting bullying behaviours and discussing ways to overcome them with your children. Barbara Colorosa in her book, the bully, the
bullied and the bystander, describes bystanders as follows:
“Bystanders are the third group of players in this tragedy. They are the supporting cast who
aid and abet the bully, through acts of omission and commission. They stand idly by or look
away or they can actively encourage the bully or join in and become one of a bunch of bullies.
Injustice overlooked or ignored becomes a contagion that infects even those who thought
they could turn away.”
If you are interested in reading Barbara Colorosa’s book, a copy is available in our parent library for you to borrow or you can visit her website at www.kidsareworthit.com
Healthy Hunger
A reminder that the Healthy Hunger Lunch Fundraising program is underway at Courtice
North. Tuesday lunches feature Subway and Thursday lunches feature Pita Pit. Orders must
be placed online www.HealthyHunger.ca and the cut off day is 5 days prior to the lunch day,
so remember to order early. You are welcome to pay by Visa, MasterCard or Interac Debit.
We appreciate your support!
Me to We
The Me to We club at CNPS is already going strong this year!
With over 40 Grade 7 and 8 students signing up to make a
difference in their community and around the world.
Our Campaign “Socktober” has gone extremely well, we have
had 1536 pairs of socks donated by Courtice North families
which will be split between The Refuge and a Women’s Shelter. The winning class who collected the most socks was Mrs. Murphy.
All the socks!

Kiss and Ride
Please remember that the
inside lane in the east parking lot is a Kiss and Ride
lane only. If your child needs
to be escorted to the playground, you must park in a
designated space. Improper
use of this lane causes traffic
to back up on to the road
and creates safety concerns
for students exiting vehicles.
