Did You Know???
Amortization: The process of paying off your
loan. As you make a payment, the payment
is divided between interest and principal.
Making payments over time reduces the
principal and your loan is paid off when
the balance reaches zero. An amortization
schedule shows you how each loan payment
is divided between principal and interest
and how long it will take you to pay it off
if you make consistent (i.e. monthly) fixed
payments.
Annual Percentage Rate (APR): The actual
amount you pay to borrow, and will be
included in the total amount you owe on
your note.
Discount Points: Prepaid interest assessed
at closing by the lender. Each point is equal
to one percent of the loan amount, i.e. one
point on a $100,000 mortgage would cost
$1,000.
Earnest Money: Money given by a buyer to a
seller as part of the purchase price to bind a
transaction or assure payment.
Origination Fee: The fee charged for issuing
a loan; usually computed as a percentage of
face value of the loan.
Title Insurance: A policy which insures
the home buyer against errors in the title
search.
