Earth Day, Concert, & Family Festival, April 20
The Town of Discovery Bay
is opening the doors and gates
of the newly acquired Discovery
Bay Community Center property,
for the 2nd Annual Earth Day
Celebration, Saturday, April 20. The
event features morning volunteer
opportunities for all ages, an
afternoon family fun festival , and a
live concert at the end of the day.
The theme for this year’s annual
Earth Day volunteer connection
project and Family Festival is
“Can You DIG It”. Volunteers
will be able to participate in two
separate volunteer projects. The
Discovery Bay Garden Club will be
placing a Blue Star By-Way marker
at Slifer Park, on Newport Drive.
Volunteers will be able to assist
with the placement of the plaque
and participate in the project by
planting trees and shrubs around
the memorial marker. Volunteers are
also encouraged to participate in
the creation of a community garden
at the Community Center. Once
complete, residents will be able to
grow their own flowers, fruits and
vegetables.
“By coming together to
celebrate Earth Day and finding
out wonderful, interesting ways to
protect and preserve our planet’s
natural resources, we will help make
a positive impact on our community”
says District Board President,
Ray Tetreault. “We encourage
all to participate and DIG the fun
volunteer and family festival!”
Following the morning volunteer
projects, a Family Festival featuring
local businesses and eco-friendly
vendors will be taking place. Come
out and enjoy the entertainment,
food and community spirit. For
the children, there will be bounce
houses, games, crafts and planting.
Beginning at 10:45am, HALO will
be sponsoring a Dog Parade with a
prize for “Best Dressed K-9”. The
day will wind down with a concert
featuring Quick Fix the Band and a
community barbecue beginning at
5:00pm. Tickets for the BBQ will be
sold at the event.
The entire event is free and
will be held from 8:00am – 7:00pm
at the Discovery Bay Community
Center, 1601 Discovery Bay Blvd. in
Discovery Bay.

Community Crime Watch & Public Safety Meeting, April 24
Discovery Bay residents are
encouraged to attend an important
community meeting, Wednesday,
April 24. The meeting is free of
charge, and begins at 7:00 PM,
at the Discovery Bay School
gymnasium, 1700 Willow Lake Road.
The Discovery Bay Crime
Watch & Public Safety meeting
will emphasize crime prevention
within the community, by providing
local crime statistics and discussion
about how residents can help the
Sheriff’s Department, and each
other, in keeping Discovery Bay a
safe place to live.
Featured speakers will include

Discovery Bay currently boasts
some of the lowest crime statistics
in Contra Costa County, and event
organizers would like to keep it
that way. Discovery Bay Chamber
of Commerce President, Chris
Middleton, stated “It is our hope
that this meeting will provide
our community with a better
understanding of how the Sheriff
works, and how we can help to keep
Discovery Bay a wonderful, safe
community to live and work in.”
If you are concerned about
crime and safety within the
community, please attend. There
will be home security specialists at
tables, to serve as a resource for
those who have questions about
security systems, locks, and property
School Superintendent
Bids Farewell
After 11 years with the Byron Union
School District (BUSD) Superintendent
Ken Jacopetti is bidding farewell.
Jacopetti’s resignation was accepted
at the April 12 BUSD board meeting,
as he has accepted a position with
the Vacaville Unified School District
effective July 1.
“Certainly it’s going to be difficult
to leave Byron,” said Jacopetti, who
served first as assistant superintendent
of student services, and then assumed
the role of superintendent upon the
departure of Eric Prater three years ago.
“I am excited to take on the challenge
waiting for me in Vacaville, with 14
schools, including two high schools.”
Jacopetti has seen the Byron
Union School District through some
rough times, including serious financial
shortcomings and growing pains as the
district nearly doubled in size during his
time here. His legacy includes major
school improvements under Measure C,
a significant rise of API scores at each
of the three schools, and the honor
of helping to create two California
Distinguished Schools.
The BUSD board of trustees has
now begun the process of accepting
applications for a new superintendent
to lead our community into the 20132014 school year.
