15 Years and Still
Going Strong
In spring of 2000, a few Virginia Beach teenagers
returned from a trip to Nicaragua. These young men
and women were so impacted by the impoverished
children living on the streets and in underserved
orphanages in Nicaragua, they were compelled to act.
Guided by faith and with the full support of their
families and Spring Branch Church, the teens returned
to help a few children at a single orphanage. From those
humble beginnings, the ORPHANetwork was born.
The group recently celebrated its 15th anniversary and
shows no signs of slowing down.
Today, the ORPHANetwork has six orphanage
partners in Nicaragua, which serve more than 300
children. The group has also grown a network of
supporters, including HOLA (co-founded by Payday
CEO Andy Kline), which works on specific projects like
implementing music programs and helping children
from the orphanages make it to college.

We know you have long and busy days at Payday. How do
you stay busy at home?
House projects! I’m working on three at the moment.
The most critical is adding a rooftop to my deck so I can
enjoy my backyard more during the summer. With a
bald head, it’s difficult to spend too much time under the
hot sun, so the rooftop will provide much needed shade
and relief!
Speaking of summer, anything exciting planned for your
family?
I’m taking my family on a vacation to Prague! We’ll
be there for two weeks in June. This is the second trip
for my wife and me, but this time, my one-year-old
daughter will join us on her first international trip. Some
experienced parents and logical people have advised
against the idea of a one year old on a long, international
flight. We’re pushing forward with somewhat of a plan,
I’ll report back on how well it works.
Outside of your family and work, tell us about one of
your greatest accomplishments.
I’m extremely proud of my education. I’ve taken
courses on and off since 2000! Yes, 15 years of higher
education…and no, I’m not a surgeon. I started with
an associates degree in business administration from
Tidewater Community College. Then I received my
bachelor’s in database programming at ECPI. I recently
achieved a master’s of science in information technology
(IT) from ECPI, as well.
