Play Time
9:15 – 9:45 Free Play Activities
Set up stations all over the room... Please put an 'old school' worship DVD on to play softly in
the background – it really helps with creating a welcoming friendly atmosphere than walking into a
quiet room. Blocks on the mat, puzzles, colouring in, play dough on the tables, story book reading
on the floor and put a leader/helper at each station.
Purpose: The Welcomer's on door duty will collect kids from parents at the door and take them to
a play station and introduce them to a Facilitator. Facilitators are to just focus on keeping their
kids occupied with the activity and making the children who are with them feel at ease. Please be
aware of clingy, scared or shy kids. Assist parents by taking kids from them so that they can get to
the adult meeting. Get children involved with something they would like to do to get them out of
their parents arms and to keep kids busy with an activity until class starts. Let parents know that
they are more than welcome to join us for the morning if their children are battling to transition.
Your role:Facilitate activities. Encourage participation. Catch Fish, Decorate,Stick in Basket
Clean House
Kick-start
9:45 – 9:50 HOST “Tidy up time”
Get kids to help tidy up the stations with their leader. Please pack away properly as
this doesn't get check throughout the week and will only be opened again at the next
meeting. i.e.: lids properly on play- dough to avoid drying out, puzzle pieces
together etc.
9:50 – 9:55 HOST “Welcome & Prayer"
Start the morning off with prayer... choose 2 or 3 kids to come up and pray for the day.
Welcome new kids and give them a welcome gift. Make a big fuss of the new kids &
how brave they are coming to church for the first time. Let them know the other
children also felt nervous & now love coming. Point out the facilitators that they can go
too if they need help or the bathroom

10:10- 10:30 Storytelling
Good morning children! What does it mean when we pray? (Encourage Response) Yes that is right,
it means that we talk to God. Where can we pray?(Encourage Response) Here at church & also
when we are by ourselves. All the times we pray are important, but did you know that God wants us
to spend time us alone so that we can get to know Him better.
There is a story in the Bible in Matthew that talks about two people. One person is praying out loud
where everyone can hear him & see him. While the other person goes quietly into his room &
spends time praying to God alone. God tells us that it's more important to pray alone because he is
doing it only for God & not just so others can see him doing it. There is another special Bible story I
want to tell you...... it's about a small boy who listened when God called.
SKIT: 5 Loaves & 2 Fishes
Preparation: In advance ask 2 or 3 helpers to be “disciples”, one to play Jesus & a small boy, the
children can be the great crowd of people. The actors should be suitably dressed AND have a
basket with the five “loaves” and two “fish”
Disciples: Huddle together.
James: “Look how many people there are!”(pretend to count the children) “I think there must be
about 5000.”
Peter: “How will we feed them all?”(looking very worried)
James: “We should tell Jesus to send them home.(all nod in agreement)
Catalysts-5 Loaves and 2 Fish page 4
Peter: “Jesus, it is late, all these people should go home. They will soon all get hungry and we
have no food to feed them”
Jesus: “Why should they go home? You feed them!
Disciples: Stand together looking around and very worried
Andrew: “Look! Here is a small boy with a basket(very excited!)
Disciples: All walk towards the small boy
Small boy: “All I have in my basket is 5 loaves & 2 small fish, but you can take it”(willingly)
Disciples: Look at each other and all say together. “Let's see what Jesus can do with it!”Turn
towards Jesus, excited
James: “Jesus we have found a small boy and he is willing to give his 5 loaves & 2 small fish.”
Jesus: “Come to me(calling the small boy)let's give thanks to God our Father for this food.”
All: Pray together giving thanks for the food. Disciples hand out pieces of bread to the children.
“Its a miracle, its a miracle!
Can you see children, this story is about a small boy who was willing to share the little food that he
had. He knew Jesus, he had heard about all the miracles that Jesus had done, he had been
following Jesus with the crowd of people and when his opportunity came to be able to give
something back to Jesus, then Jesus was able to use the small amount that the
little boy had to feed a big crowd of people.

Craft Time
Do you know how you can be like this small boy? You know that Jesus wants us to be kind and
helpful to one another. He wants us to love people, to listen to our moms and dads when they ask
us to do something. Jesus wants us to think about other people and how they
may be feeling. You know Jesus & you know that he wants you to do these
things, tomorrow and the next day when you go to school or are at home do
something that you know will make Jesus happy!

Catalyst:
Demonstrate what a catalyst is with the larva lamp experiment. Explain that it's the same
as when we put our hand up and say we will follow Jesus & then show His love to others
by the way we behave.
Blobs in a Bottle-Larva Lamp
A clean 1 litre clear soda bottle
Vegetable Oil
3/4 cup of water
Fizz tablets/ Eno’s
Food colouring
First pour water in 1 l bottle (¾ cup) and then almost fill the bottle with
vegetable oil (you'll need to wait a few minutes for oil and water to
separate).Add 10 drops of food colouring (The drops will pass through the
oil and then mix with the water below). Now here comes the catalyst!( Take
an Eno tablet and drop the it into the bottle. Hold the bottle up for all to see. Watch it sink to the
bottom and let the blobby greatness begin!)
