INTRODUCTION
Welcome to Werrington Park for Plymouth Motor Club’s 38th Speed
Hillclimb to be held at this lovely venue. We are here by kind permission
of Mr. M. Williams and would like to thank him for allowing us access to
the park. We would also like to welcome Vospers again as our event
sponsor, do please take time to visit their display of cars at the top of the
bottom paddock.
For those of you who have not seen this type of motor sport before, the
idea is simply to get from the bottom of the hill to the top in the shortest
time possible. The cars are divided into various classes, according to
type and capacity, and all have a chance of winning their class. Timing is
electronic; light beams across the track at the bottom and top of the hill
operate digital time clocks which record the time elapsed to the nearest
hundredth of a second. There is also a speed trap, on the upper section
of the hill, allowing drivers to see their speeds on this part of the track.
Please feel free to look around the bottom paddock, look at the cars and
talk to the drivers - if they are not too busy preparing/ adjusting/ repairing
their cars! Times will also be displayed in the white marquee at the
bottom of the paddock as well as on the displays opposite the paddock.
We will have an awards presentation at the end of each day, you are
welcome to come & join us by the white marquee about 30 minutes after
the end of the competition runs. While you’re waiting, why not sample the
delights served up by our caterers or pop into the marquee and pick up
one of our introduction to motorsport brochures?
One word of warning however – MOTOR SPORT IS DANGEROUS.
It may not look it, but some of the cars will be travelling at over 100mph
on the fastest parts of the hill. Therefore, if an official asks you to move,
please do so promptly - IT WILL BE FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY. If you
do not move we will have to stop the racing until you do so. Also, please
stay behind the ropes and if there is an incident stay where you are. The
officials on hand are trained to deal with any incidents.
Please remember that this is a private park so do not pick the flowers or
disturb the animals. Please take all litter home with you or use the litter
bins provided.

Practice commences at 09:00. Event runs will start after practice.
Awards Presentation upon completion of the event runs, held at the white
marquee at the bottom of the paddock, all welcome.
AWARDS
Awards are given for the fastest time in each class and also second &
third fastest, subject to the number of entries in the class.
The principal awards are:
Saturday
The Margaret Tyrell Memorial Trophy for Fastest Time of the Day.
The Presidential Trophy for the best performance by a PMC member.
The Dick Snell Memorial Trophy for the best performance by an “over
60” driver.
The Letchworth Trophy for the best performance of a motor cycle
engined car.
Sunday
The Alexander Duckham Trophy for Fastest Time of the Day.
The Alan Jeffery Trophy for the fastest in Class A2.
The Chris Inch Memorial Trophy for the fastest in Class C1.
The Hemerdon Hillclimb Trophy for the best performance by a PMC
member.
The Rob Williams Memorial Trophy for the best performance by an
“over 60” driver.
The Terry Thorne Memorial Trophy for the best performance by a
driver aged 25 or younger.
The Sanders Trophy for “Spirit of the Event”.
The hill record is 32.61 seconds, set in 2013 by Terry Graves.
