Surveyor of the Year Award
At the December 2, 2011, CEAC
Breakfast and Installation of Officers ceremony,
Steven Steinhoff of the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works was recognized as
the 2011 CEAC Surveyor of the Year. The annual CEAC Surveyor of the Year award is
presented to an “Active Member” who has made an outstanding contribution to the County
Surveying profession and to CEAC activity. Past award recipients are 2009 Mike Emmons, Santa
Barbara County, and 2010 Stuart Edell, Butte County.
Steve will be representing our Chapter next year as one of our State CLSA Representatives.

December Los Angeles Chapter Executive Committee Meeting Highlights:
The Executive Committee met on December 1, 2012. Executive Committee members in attendance:
President Mark Danielson, President-Elect David Hobbs, Treasurer Erik Bowers, Secretary Theresa
Strazzella, State Executive Committee Board Member Jay Seymour, and State Representatives
Stephen Hughey and Mark Price.
Executive Committee Members absent: Paul Lindhout - Membership, Alan Ng - Website, Steven
Steinhoff - Newletter, and Diane Wells - State Representative
The meeting was called to order at 5:18 pm.
Topics:
 Approved the November 3, 2011, minutes
 Discussed topics, speakers, sponsors, and venues for the January, February, March, and April 2012
meetings.
 Jay Seymour clarified that an individual surveyor can solicit votes from other chapters but not as a
CLSA LA Chapter President or other officer.
 Diane Wells discussed the Los Angeles Chapter 2012 LS Review Class
 The Committee discussed revising all Chapter reports – Letterhead, spots for Newsletter, Quarterly re-
port with information of 2012 Executive Committee and Committees.
 The Committee discussed newsletter advertising rates for individuals and businesses.
 It was noted that the Professional Practice Committee recently assisted several surveyors with mat-
ters of physical evidence of material change.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:10pm
The next Executive Committee Meeting will be held at 5 pm on January 5, 2012, at Taix’s Restraurant.

The December 2011 Chapter Meeting was held on December 1, 2011, at Big Jim’s Restaurant. It was
reported a good time was had by all. The event kicked of at 7pm followed by Texas Hold ’em Poker.

CLSA Auction Website The CLSA Education Foundation now has an Auction Website. This website allows us to buy and sell equipment, books, and other items. 10% of the sales price of an item is deducted from the seller’s proceeds and
contributed to the Education Foundation. These funds help provide scholarships to land surveying students.

Do you know that CLSA has a Professional Development Program? Attending the monthly meetings is worth 1.5 hours per meeting toward your development.
The CLSA Professional Development Program (PDP) is a voluntary
program intended to encourage and support the continued professional growth
and competency of land surveyors and recognize their continuing education
activities. This program also provides members a means to meet out-of-state
licensure requirements.

NEW for Spring 2012!!! College of the Canyons will simultaneously offer a hybrid and online Survey
101 course. The instructor will utilize a tablet PC and CCCConfer to allow students to participate in
the classroom both synchronously and asynchronously, providing students the option of an "in the
classroom" experience. The Spring semester begins Monday, February 6, 2012, and ends Thursday,
May.31, 2012.

FUNDAMENTALS OF AUTOCAD
VERSION 2010
Program Summary : A hands-on course designed to provide the participant with an introduction to using AutoCAD software.
Description: This class is a foundational short course exploring AutoCAD. The participant
will use basic drafting, modifying and display commands, measuring devices and adding Text
& Multi-leaders to a drawing. Students will have an opportunity to practice using AutoCAD in
a classroom setting.

2012 LS EXAM REVIEW CLASS
The LS review lectures will be covering topics which will likely be encountered within the California
Land Surveyors’ Examination. Each lecture will be presented by a professional currently practicing
or recently retired in the State.
The Los Angeles Chapter of CLSA has been successful in its LS Exam Review classes to help LSIT
applicants prepare for and pass the state examinations. If you are considering taking this
examination or have already signed up, you are encourage to participate in this successful program.
The Los Angeles CLSA Chapter is anxious to assist you in the successful preparation for your state
examination.
Each class will be held on consecutive Thursday evenings beginning January 5, 2012 and
continuing thru March 29, 2012. There will be several Saturday classes as well.
