Futsal is the only form of indoor football approved by FIFA, UEFA & the
FA. With over 2 million players regularly participating in fast-paced
5-a-side action that rewards good technique and game intelligence,
futsal is globally recognised as one of the fastest growing indoor
sports in the world.
Many greats from the 11-a-side game such as Ronaldinho, Fabregas,
Zidane and Pele attribute the development of their skills to Futsal.
Extensively televised international competitions such as the futsal
world cup and UEFA futsal cup allow players to showcase their
talents on a global scale and ensure that futsal is here to stay as part
of the fabric of football.
As a key element of the FAW’s strategy to develop the game and
produce players capable of representing Wales, Cardiff City FC
in conjunction with Futsal Newport are setting up a scholarship
programme for 16-19 year old players.
Scholars will have the opportunity to train for up to 10 hours a week
with Cardiff City FC coaches. Training will be supplemented with
“Many more clubs starting in 2012!”
regular fixtures in the Cardiff City FC Regional Futsal
League and other professional clubs. To ensure that
scholars are fully prepared for the future, the programme
also includes a full time education package, incorporating:
 BTEC level 3 in Sport, equivalent to either 1/2/3 A levels allowing access to university.
NVQ Level 2 in Activity Leadership.
 Introduction to Futsal coaching qualification.
