Good News…
Guard Your Treasures...
By Pastor Ken Studer
About a year ago, my car was broken into
while I was sleeping. The car was parked in my
driveway and I presumed it was in a safe place. A
number of things were stolen including my gym
bag which contained my favorite $200 racquetball
racquet, my racquetball protective eyewear, racquetball gloves and a number of racquetballs.
Other items were also taken and I estimate the
total loss was at least $500.
I felt blessed that the perpetrators only broke
into my car and not my house. Nevertheless, I immediately began to investigate options to safeguard my home and cars. I had no idea about
how many options there were to help me guard
my valuables.

New technologies to help us guard our valuables and identities are constantly emerging.
There are state-of-the-art home security systems,
miniature hidden video cameras, electronic walls,
retinal scanners, thumb and fingerprint readers,
passcodes, barcodes, motion sensors and more.
They all exist to help us guard our stuff.
While the technologies for
guarding our valuables is new,
the concept of guarding valuables is not new.
The Apostle Paul told Timothy, “Guard, through the Holy
Spirit who dwells in us, the
treasure which has been entrusted to you.” 1 Timothy 1:14
NASB
What is the treasure Paul
wants us to guard? A more
modern version (God’s Word
Translation) reads like this,
“With the help of the Holy Spirit
who lives in us, protect the
Good News that has been entrusted to you.”
The Apostle Paul wants us
to guard our greatest treasure—
the Good News. There are
many who want to distort the
Good News and turn it into
Good Advice. We must guard
against that and never let that
happen.
The Good News is that the
Good News is Good News.
OCC Happenings
Discussion Series @ 10 AM in the Sanctuary
AUGUST SCHEDULE:
In Viewpoints this month we will learn how to embrace everyday blessings and embark on the spiritual
discipline of chronicling God’s gifts to us. It’s only in
this expressing of gratitude for the life we already have
that we will discover the life we’ve always wanted. We
will find a way of seeing that opens our eyes to ordinary amazing grace, a way of being present to God
that can make us deeply happy, and a way of living
that is fully alive. Join us each Saturday morning in the
church sanctuary at 10:00 AM for Viewpoints!

Pastor Ignacio D. Hernando
(Micah’s grandfather) strongly believed that in order to be involved
in God's vast work and bring back
the lost image of God, Christians
should use and excel in whatever
talent God has given them.
Since they believed they had been entrusted with the gift of music, a group
was formed in the Philippines who called themselves The Sunlight Family. The
Sunlight Family included the Hernando family, along with several other families.
Their goal was to glorify God through music.
Today, four out of the 13 grandchildren of Pastor Ignacio D. Hernando - Kasten, Micah, Samantha, and Kevin - continue to follow in their grandfather’s footsteps in spreading the gospel and praising the Lord through the ministry of music.
Today the ministry is based in the Inland Empire.
