ANNUAL REPORT - Foothill Family Service
2012-2013
ANNUAL REPORT
Building strong
foundations
for families
& communities
our FAMILY
from our CEO
Steve Allen
Let me start by saying a big “thank you” to all of
you for such a warm welcome! It feels something
of a privilege to be writing this letter as the CEO
of Foothill Family Service, especially considering
the rich history of this great agency. Founded in
1926, Foothill Family has been there to help
children and families through difficult times from
the Great Depression to the present challenging
economic times. I do want to say a heartfelt thanks
to my predecessor, Helen Morran-Wolf, for 21
years of great leadership at Foothill Family, and to the amazing staff,
committed Board of Directors and generous supporters who have helped us
continue our mission of Building Brighter Futures for Children and Families.
Last year we served over 22,000 children, teens and families through an
array of mental health and social services!
Throughout 2012-2013, Foothill’s dedicated staff did an outstanding job
providing services to the most vulnerable children to help them stay with their
families and in the community whenever possible. Many families were referred
for child abuse and domestic violence treatment and a growing number of
children were identified and referred for treatment by the 148 schools and
preschools where we provide on-site services. Our largest area of growth is in
our services for families with children 0-5, which now comprise one-third of
our clients. Our Early Head Start Program, based in El Monte, serves
high-need children 0-3 and their families and has not only been fully enrolled
throughout the year, but has maintained an ongoing waiting list. With the
recent awarding of an additional grant, the program is expanding by nearly
40% for the coming year.
In 2012-13 our revenues increased to $19.9 million with fundraising bringing in
over $1.1 million - a major accomplishment in this economy! Our fabulous
Friends of Foothill Family hosted “The Gatsby Affair,” one of the most
successful Annual Benefits in our history, raising over $250,000 to support
our work! We are so grateful to our Board Members, Friends of Foothill
Family, foundations, and the community that have generously supported us
during these difficult times. We are most appreciative of your commitment to
our mission. Together, we look forward to an exciting year ahead as Foothill
Family continues to innovate and meet the ever-growing needs of our
community.
