The dBDRA would like to thank all of the competitors, sponsors
and manufacturers that participated in the 2013 Car Audio
Championship. The multi-location event took place during the
weekend of October 19-20, 2013. dBDRA competitors in both
Sacramento and Huntsville competed against one another as
part of one large event. With the LIVE broadcast feature of the
Term-LAB SPL Meter, the contestants were able to compete head
to head via the internet. In many cases the elimination rounds
were head to head across the country. At the end of the
weekend, almost half of the winners were from the West Coast
and the other half from the East Coast. Championship rings were
awarded in First place and Trophies were awarded for Second
- Eighth place. As the dBDRA moves forward into the 2014 season, we expect to host many more head to head, multi-location
events. As technology continues to advance, so will the sport of
dB Drag Racing. We invite everyone to join in on the fun!
Commissioner’s
Report
by Sam Horn
The 2014 dBDRA finals in
Huntsville, Alabama and
Sacramento, California
(satellite location) was a great
competition and a fun
weekend. It was my 9th
Finals and it will be
remembered as one of my
favorites. I felt blessed to meet
competitors from different regions that I have only
seen on the dB Drag Racing Face book pages.
A couple of items that I would like to share...
dBDRA was excited to showcase our
technology. One of our technologies is the
dBTV Internet competition, which is where two
competitors can compete head to head in bracket
style elimination format in two different locations
in real time.
Top Dog (winner take all format) was new in 2013
and it was fun to watch competitors increase their
skills in this format at the finals. Our presentation
(the lanes) is a stage we set for you, the competitor, to compete in. We appreciate your time and
effort and wanted to provide you with the best
experience possible.
Many new friendships were formed and also some
new rivalries.
I truly look forward to 2014
As always, I thank you
for your support!

A few words from Mike... “I had 3 ties with Thomas
O’Brien at World Finals in the 149.9 Base Race class.
It was definitely a new experience for me driving from
Ohio down to Huntsville, Alabama for the Car Audio
Championship. I ended up with 13 trophies at the event.
Two of the trophies were special awards for the East
Coast points champion in both dB Drag Racing and
Bass Race. I had a great experience and I can’t wait
to start the season of this year with a new build. I am
hoping to have (4) 15’ jugs 4 MMATS 4 K’s this year. I
am hoping to get that world championship ring in Bass
Race. Thomas O’Brien is already calling me out at
slamology and I’m hoping to see him there to see what
happens. Thomas is a good competitor and I and hope
to see both of us there at finals again next year battling
it out. As for my two special awards, I was very grateful for Sam Horn and Wayne Harris for recognizing my
points championships and giving out the awards. I will
see everybody this season as I start it off with the May
17th show at Horizon Audio in Ohio.”

Neill Barber
Roger Beauchamp
Neil Barber has been competing in dB Drag Racing
since the very beginning of the organization in 1998.
Over the years Neill has racked up over 2200 points
competing in both dB Drag Racing and Bass Race
events. Neill is a great competitor, a great guy and has
been a
great
supporter
of the
dBDRA.
We thank
Neill for
his years
of brand
loyalty.
Our hats go
off to Neill!
(Jimmy Rutherford (R) Neill Barber (L)
Roger was the competitor
that traveled the farthest
to attend finals this year,
by making the long trek
from Alberta, Canada to
Huntsville, AL. Although
Roger was closer to the
West Coast location, he
and his family, chose to
experience the Huntsville
venue. Roger competed
for 1 season back in 2000
and then took a hiatus
for several years before
jumping back into the sport in 2013 and accruing nearly 300 dB Drag / Bass Race points during the season.
We applaud Roger for his dedication to the sport. And I
believe the oil and gas industry thanks you as well.
Willy Hinz & Cody Allard
Craig Butler
Willy and Cody did a great job in the Top Dog competition at the Finals. Willy had an impressive total of
112,235 points
at the end of
the competition
while Cody
ended up with
28,710 points.
We would like
to thank all
competitors that
competed in
Top Dog. The runs went well into the very late hours of
the night, or should we say, early morning... All of the
competitors are true die hards!
Craig is an Extreme competitor that has been
competing in dB Drag since 2004. Craig has attended
8 World Finals
events and
countless multipoint events to
rack up over
1100 career
points. As an
Extreme competitor, this is
nothing to take
lightly. The
travel time and expense for these trailered vehicles is
something that takes a bit of cash, good brakes, a sturdy tow vehicle and a lot of patience. When Craig started competing, in 2004, his highest certified score was
149.5 dB. Now Craig is up to 181.1 dB and we expect
to see some even bigger numbers this year!
Terry Brocks
Terry Brocks is a veteran
dB Drag Competitor. He
has been competing since
2000 and has racked up
over 3000 points during
his career. Terry is a guy
that will just make you
smile. His charismatic
personality has made him
somewhat of a global icon.
Way to go Terry!

The Pressure Mounts
At this year’s Finals, there was a 10 way tie for the 8
elimination spots in the 139.9 class. A huge kudos to all
10 Bass Race Competitors.
• Jay Staub (AL)
• Matt Azam (AL)
• Roger Beauchamp (AL)
• Team Nemesis – Derrick (AL)
• Scott Lankes (CA)
• SSB Tim (CA)
• Team Bassdrop Afrobass (CA)
• Team SSC Jose (CA)
• TEAM SSC Lance (CA)
• Team SSC Stephen (CA)
All competitors had to qualify again for the 8 elimination
spots for BASS RACE 139.9 class. Each competitor
qualified with a perfect score of 139.9 on Saturday.
Sunday morning the Judges scrambled the competitors
back to the lanes and informed them that the 10
competitors would have to re-qualify again. The best
eight scores would move to the elimination round brackets. Two competitors would not advance and they
would be done competing for the national championship. SSC Jose was eliminated from the competition
when he busted out with a 140.0. SSB Tim came up
short with a 139.8 and failed to make the brackets. All
the other competitors were able to duplicate their perfect
qualifying scores and advanced to eliminations.
Battle Royal Continues
During Eliminations
When two competitors tie in Bass Race, they have
less than 30 seconds to reset their stereo systems
before the tie breaker begins. The pressure can be
unbelievable.
The 129.9 class final round competitors, Willy Hinz
(AL) vs Clayton Koenig (AL) put on a Bass Race clinic.
The winner of this round wins the championship and
the ring. Both competitors come out strong and stayed
strong. The convention center goes quite as they battle
it out. They tie once, twice, three times and keep tying
for an unbelievable 11 rounds. In the end, Clayton
edges Willy and Clayton wins the ring.
The 139.9 class quarter finalist Jay Staub (AL) and
Team Nemesis – Derrick (AL) tie for 4 rounds. Jay
Staub competing in a loaner vehicle was not set up to
operate his stereo from outside the vehicle, which of
course is the 4th tie breaker. On the fourth tie
breaker, all Jay could do was turn on his stereo and
close the door. Team Nemesis advances.
In the 149.9 semi
final bracket.
Mike Mack (AL)
and Thomas
O’Brien (CA)
went toe to toe
for 3 ties. They
were competing
against each other in two different
states. Winner would advance to the finals. Mike Mack,
using a borrowed head unit from Steve Mick (AL), and with
a little coaching from 129.9 champion Clayton Koenig (AL),
was dialed in. Thomas’ system was playing strong. On the
4th tie breaker Mike Mack, edged Thomas.
Mike advanced to the finals against Gary Killian(CA).
Who would have guessed it, but Mike and Gary tie
with a 149.9. This made 4 straight INTERNET
COMPETITIONS ties for Mike in the 149.9 class.
On the next run Gary edged Mike and took the
championship and the ring.
Tie Breaker in SS 3-4
They Said YES!!!
One of the highlights ties of the night was in the Super
Street 3-4 semi finals eliminations, Public Disturbance
(AL) and Beau Boren (AL)
tied with of score of 164.0
dB. Beau advanced to the
finals with a winning score
of 164.8 in the tie breaker
and goes on to win the
Super Street 3-4 class.
Two of the Finals
competitors in
the Sacramento location both
proposed to their
girlfriends at Finals
and they both said
YES. Gary Killian

followed by
Thomas O’Brien.
