The Boggs Rideser Cup
I don t have to tell you what event this is, it has been on your mind since the day a6er last year s event. I don t need to tell you what day it is, it has been on your calendar for months. I don t need to tell you where it is because you called every course around to find out where Tampa made a reserva<on. I don t need to tell you who you are playing with or against, that is what has been keeping you up at nights. This whole issue is just a formality. All you need to know is that this is what you play and prac<ce for all year. This is what you will tell your grandchildren about. This is not about you, this is about the team. This is The Boggs Rideser Cup. Rules &
Regulations
GENERAL INFORMATION: The Boggs Rideser Cup is a Team event pitting 10 players from Tampa against 10 players from Bradenton.
Each team is divided into 5 pairs, and those pairs will face off against each other. There will be 5 groups, and within each group will be one
pair from Tampa against one pair from Bradenton. Each group is playing a match play round, Tampa vs. Bradenton, and the overall winner of
the group will be awarded 1 point towards their respective Team s total. All players will play from the same set of tees, to be selected by the
home Team s Captain. In the event that the group is all square after 18 holes, each Team will be awarded ½ of a point. The Team to win 3
points or more will be deemed The Boggs Rideser Cup Champion.
FORMAT: The format in which each match will be played is referred to as a 7-4-7 format. The first seven holes of the match will be played
as a two man Scramble. The next 4 holes will be played as alternate shot. The final 7 holes will be played as Best Ball.
SCRAMBLE: In Scramble golf, each player from both pairs tees off, the best lying ball is then chosen amongst the pair and each golfer will
then play from that position. The position may be marked and the ball may be moved one club s length no closer to the hole (6 inches when
on the green – insert penis joke here) and not improving the position (i.e. from rough to fairway or fringe to green). Choosing the best
position after each shot, continue to play until the ball is in the hole. The twosome again with the lowest score will win the hole. In the event
of a tie, there is no blood and play resumes on the next hole.
ALTERNATE SHOT: On hole #8 each pair will designate a player to tee off and begin the hole. The next shot will be played by the other
player, and the pair will continue like this until the ball is in the hole. The player who does not putt the ball into the hole will tee off to start
the next hole. Any shots conceded by the opposing pair will be played as if the player who was due to play actually made their shot. For the
pair that makes the concession, the next tee shot will be played by the person who was due to hit their next shot when the concession was
made. Each team will match scores at the end of the hole and the team with the low score wins the hole. In the event of a tie, there is no
blood and play resumes on the next hole. Unlike Scramble golf, where you can lift, clean and place , alternating shot shall be played
where the ball lies (unless there are irregular ground conditions, in which case the standard rules of golf apply).
BEST BALL: Best Ball is where each player plays his own ball from tee to finish and the pair will record their player s best score. The best
score for that hole from Tampa will then be matched against the best score from Bradenton on that hole and the lower number wins the hole.
In the event of a tie, there is no blood and play resumes on the next hole.
MATCH PLAY STANDARDS: In match play, it is customary for the group or golfer who is farthest away from the hole to always be next in
line to hit. This gives an advantage to the player who is closer to the hole to know exactly what position his opponent is in. This information
could affect shot selection and club selection. Even if one pair is on the green and the other is off, whoever is farthest from the hole will hit
first. After a hole is won, the winning pair will tee off first on the next hole, both golfers from that pair.
CONCESSIONS: At any point during a hole, either team may concede the next shot by the opposing team as though it will go into the cup.
Once a team has conceded, that hole is over for the team that received the concession and their score will count as if they took and made the
shot that was conceded to them, regardless of their position on the hole. During the Alternate Shot portion of the contest, if a hole is
conceded, the person who was due to hit the next shot is treated as though he took the shot and made it, therefore the other player on the team
will tee off on the next hole. For the team that made the concession and lost the hole, whoever was due to take the next shot will tee off on
the following hole. However, if a team is winning a hole and realizes that they can dictate who will be on the tee for the losing team by
conceding their next shot, they may do so. Example – Neuff and Kern are greenside in two on #8. Tuls and LDS have put two in the hazard
and missed the green on their approach. Confident they can get in the hole in their next three shots, they concede the next shot to team
TuLDS so they have who they want on the tee on the next hole. They will then continue to play the hole until they either put the ball in the
cup or receive a concession from TuLDS.
IN THE EVENT OF AN OVERALL TIE: If Tampa and Bradenton are tied after all five pairs have completed their rounds, the pairs that
tied their matches will face each other in a sudden death playoff hole. If there was more than one tie, the home Captain gets to select which
match will continue first and the Captains will alternate until all tied matches have played one playoff hole, if necessary. The playoff holes
will be played using the alternate shot format. If those pairs tie, then the next pair will be selected from the remaining pairs that played
together that day and play another play-off hole. Each Captain will choose his own pair to represent his team. This will continue until the tie
is broken. No pair will play twice until all other pairs have been selected and the tie is yet to be broken.
WAGER: There is a standing $10 wager, per person, between Teams. The wager is to be paid from the losing Team to the winning Team,
regardless of whether or not a group was won. Yes, you may win your group and still have to pay your opponents.
FINAL NOTES: Gamesmanship is highly encouraged on The BGA and will also be encouraged for The Boggs Rideser Cup. Deciding
when to and when not to concede putts is all part of the game and should be executed properly. In the event that a ruling is needed, as long all
golfers in the group are satisfied with the ruling then that is the way the ball will be played. And in the end, when the dust has settled and the
winner is hoisting The Cup, remember that we are all BGA Professionals. Please conduct yourselves accordingly.

Neuffer v Tuls
It s finally going to happen. The BGA has waited 2 plus years to finally get the sort of dream matchup that Hollywood movies are made of. In the biggest event of the year on the BGA s biggest stage, the long overdue Nueffer/Tuls match will take place. Not since Ali/Frasier has the hype been this big. Not since Noles/Canes (late 80s early 90s) has it maPered more. And not since the HaQields & McCoys has the hate ran this deep. This Sunday the BGA finally gets the drama<c showdown it has ached for ever since these two giants established themselves as the alpha males of their respec<ve Boggs Rideser Cup Teams. In 2012 it looked as though the showdown would happen at The River Club as Tampa was begging for the matchup. However, McDodgin pulled the old throw away card and tossed Rudy/Fosmore at Neuffer/Brown. His cowardly ploy worked as Bradenton pulled off the 3-‐2 win to secure their third Cup. This year, Captain Chambeaux gave the masses what they wanted to see. Even if it backfires and Tampa manages to capture their third Cup, Chambes must be commended for allowing this super match to take place. Although, it is telling that Chambes gave Tuls a formidable teammate in LDS, while Neuffer went with a less heralded but s<ll worthy mate in Kern.
Who s it
gonna be?
Neuffer and Tuls have had very similar careers as they approach this monumental Sunday that will surely be either a gold star or glaring hole on their resumes. Both have won the pres<gious Rudy s 3-‐Club, both have a Major under their belts and had it not been for Sato s Legendary shot in the Playoff vs. Tuls both would have won the Cpt. Hohnson Holiday Classic. That being said, they have never really squared off head to head with so much at stake. Neuffer is in a slightly more precarious posi<on as he is the Captain for Tampa and you only get one shot to cement your legacy as a BRC captain. Tuls <me is most likely down the road. People from all walks of life have weighed in on the enormity of Sunday s outcome. Neuffer will win. I like his hair, Paulie Walnuts from The Sopranos said. Sarasota resident Pete Rose chimed in, Tuls will win, I d bet my house on it. Come Sunday everyone will be tuned in to find out the answer to the BGA s biggest ques<on. Who is the BGA s Top Dog? Neuffer? Tuls? Tuls? Neuffer? The <me to find out is now. 10 Ques<ons – Boggs Rideser Cup Edi<on Below is a sampling of how a handful of the compe4tors from each side have prepared leading up to the event and how they see the event itself shaking out. What has been the most difficult part of your Captainship this past
year? Figuring out where to get Under Armor shirts embroidered at
Having one BRC under your belt, including
being named MVP, how have you approached
this BRC differently? I haven't. Pretty sure I
got it right the first time so when it isn't broke
I don't fix it. What I am enjoying this year is
the amazing trash talk hosted by media czar
on Facebook. I can picture the steam coming
out of his ears as all of us "newbs" on Team
Bradenton get a good chuckle commenting
on the "facts" he posts.
Tampa finally got the marquee matchup between you and Neuff.
Look into your crystal ball and describe how the match will go. The
rare chance the 5th and final point comes down to our group, I
predict LDS and me toying them to a 3 and 2 victory. Afterwards,
just as Sergio makes excuses like Neuffer did in question 4 before
Super clash, he blames Harry Hood for taking a picture in his
backswing costing them the cup on hole 16 as he pull hooks his
approach into the road!
This is your first BRC. On which hole do
you anticipate closing out your opponent?
I expect to make birdie on 16 for the win
and start the string of Bradenton match
wins.
Your partner has been a lightning rod for criticism in past BRCs
from his brash confidence to his classless trash talk on the first
tee to his Cup-costing Team Bromance failure. How will you
deflect the spotlight this week? Team Satzimus is quite
comfortable in the spotlight.
10 Ques<ons – Boggs Rideser Cup Edi<on (con4nued) You were finally able to negotiate the marquee matchup between you and Tuls.
Look into your crystal ball and describe how the match will go. This is how I
envision the match taking shape…Kern and I will be 2 up thru scramble play
by methodically going on a birdie barrage. Then comes alternate shot, where
we will surprisingly add another hole, whereas, we will be up 3 thru 11. This all
but dashes TuLDS' hopes, until they snag a hole early in best ball. However,
Kern puts the finishing touch on a great day by birdieing 16, and Tampa win 3
& 2, ironically, clinching the cup for Tampa 3 - 2 as well.
Last year you took down two Legends in your match. This year you have the
chance to defeat a Legend again, although with a Legend as a partner. How will
you deal with the conflicting Legend-hating emotions? The legendary hating
emotions will not be so high this year because the legends in my group are on
opposite teams so I will be surprised if there will be any gay fist bump
explosions. The legends are not so bad when you take them one or two at a
time it's when you get them all together at one time is when all the legendary
hating emotions have to be contained.
You are Steve Kerr(n) to Neuffer's Michael. Will you be ready to hit the big shot
when Neuffer passes you the ball? I m always ready. Give me the damn ball!
Your BRC record has not been nearly as good as your
record in Majors. What have you done to change that
this year? The only aspect of my preparation that has
changed from this year compared to previous years is
my mental approach. I have brushed up on Mr.
Hogan's teachings and I am staying loose by drinking
nightly and watching lots of Comedy Central.
As a BRC rookie, how do you anticipate handling the immense pressure that
comes along with representing Team Tampa? Pressure? What pressure?
History always favors the underdogs: Rocky v Drago, The Little Giants, Obama.
Bradenton has already declared victory and this will be their demise. Once I
help push Group 1 out to an early lead I ll get to enjoy the sound of swear
words and club smashing from Chambo and Tuls behind me. The only pressure
I plan on feeling Sunday is from my tight shorts and size smedium golf shirt.
This is the year of rookies and Team Tampa taking back the crown.
How have office relations been since the announcement was made that you will
be facing a fellow co-worker? A house divided. Drew has been scarce around
the office since the pairings were made. Rumor has it that he has been
spending 6-7 hours a day on the practice range preparing himself for the event.
There should be nothing that should prevent him from being at the top of his
game on Sunday.
