Encouraging every believer to identify their oikos;
Motivating every believer to intentionally engage their oikos;
Preparing every believer to both demonstrate and communicate their faith in Christ.
MAY 25, 2014
Deacon Ministry
1. Guard the unity of the church
a. As people reconciled to God by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we believe that we are
called to respond to conflict and sinful behavior in a way that is remarkably different from the way
the world responds (Matt. 5:9; Luke 6:27-36; Gal. 5:19-26).
b. Conflict is not an accident and provides opportunities to glorify God, serve other people, and grow
to be like Christ (Rom. 8:28-29; 1 Cor. 10:31-11:1; James 1:2-4).
c. We guard the unity of the church so that the truth of the Gospel will remain credible to both the
congregation and our community. (Matt. 25:14-21; John 13:34-35; Rom. 12:18; 1 Peter 2:19; 4:19)
2. Use wisdom and discernment to uphold the vision and values of UABC by ensuring the church remains on a true biblical course. Deacons will accomplish this by making sure:
a. Members are being appropriately shepherded and
b. The life and direction of the church is being well managed with the assistance of other competent
and godly leaders (Acts 20:28,1 Peter 5:1-10)
c. The church is fed through insightful and accurate Bible teaching (2 Tim 2:14-16).
d. This will require Deacons to:
