Working with Saracens Rugby Club
Opening our outdoor gym
We were delighted to welcome Nigel Wray, of
Saracens Rugby Club, Totteridge Resident and
long term supporter of the Academy to formally
open the outdoor gym in January. Students have
enjoyed using the facilities since the opening of
the Academy in September The funding for a
range of outdoor fitness equipment was donated
by the Saracens Foundation.
Kyran Bracken’s visit
Kyran Bracken MBE, former
England Rugby player and
winner of a previous series
of Dancing on Ice, visited
The Totteridge Academy to
deliver a coaching session.
Students from Years 8, 9
and 10 spent a morning
with Kyran and his colleagues as part of Rugby
project. Students received
gum shields and tracksuits
and will be given tickets to
a forthcoming Rugby
match.
The event was organised
by Saracens coach Mr
Mark Georghiou in collaboration with Acting
Head of PE at The Totteridge Academy, Mr Roberts.
The Rugby Cup comes to The Totteridge Academy
As a part of our links with Saracens The Premiership Trophy was brought to The Totteridge Academy for a Year 9 and 10 assembly by some of the Saracens players.
The players talked about the importance of
hard work, respecting each other and team
work in achieving your goals, before taking
questions from students.
The students were really excited to see the
trophy and some lucky students had their
photo taken with the players and trophy.

As the 2012 London Olympics approaches, Form Tutors were recently
set the challenge to design an Olympic
banner as part of a promotional competition to celebrate the 2012 London
Olympics. The winning tutor group will
get the opportunity to enter their poster
in a National Competition which provides the chance to get their poster
officially designed and published by the
London 2012 team.
10BUR were the lucky winners and
here is their banner.
Young Writers Club
Last year the English Faculty ran a creative writing club and
entered some short stories into a national competition. We
were really pleased to find out that Adam Manderfield, now in
Year 8, won the chance to have his story published! Adam’s
story appears in the Mini Sagas regional anthology and we
are very proud that he is representing the talent in our school.
This term we will be running the Young Writers Club for
Years 7 and 8 on Friday lunchtimes in room 205 with Ms Boswell and the competition is called Express Yourself Through
Poetry. So, all students in Years 7 and 8 who enjoy creative
writing and poetry are welcome to come along and you might
end up having your work published.
Christmas Tags Galore!
Science and Technology Club News
The Eco-Mission Action Team have been
inundated with donations of used Christmas
cards and have been
working hard in their
Wednesday lunchtime
sessions being creative
and re-using at the
same time! The Christmas cards have been
re-created into Christmas Gift Tags and the
Action Team plan to sell them to students, teachers and
parents in the Autumn Term. "We have had a fantastic response", said Leonie Jackson, a Sixth Form team member,
"and it has given some of the younger students something
that is classroombased, during the cold
weather, to focus on!
It's been great fun!"
We would also like to
welcome some new
members to the team
too - Scott Marshall,
Charlie O'Sullivan,
Reagan Thomas, Jade
Stevens, Chloe Cronin, Katie Staff and
Ashmita Gurung.
The Science and Technology club is thriving
with its highest numbers
in years. We have had a
fantastic start to this term
learning how to build
rockets and make chocolate cakes. We are looking forward to forthcoming
events which include trips
to Cadbury world and the
Science Museum. If you
are interested in joining

Barnet Eurovision song poster competition
In March, eight Barnet primary schools will be taking
part in the final of the first
ever Barnet Eurovision Song
contest. The MFL Faculty and
Language Leaders of The
Totteridge Academy will be
assisting at the event to be
held at Ashmole Academy.
Students from TTA were invited to enter a competition to
design a poster to advertise
the Barnet Eurovision Song
Contest. In excess of 50 posters were entered but the
lucky winner was Nahill Dawood in 8ROB. Nahill was
presented with a gift voucher
of his choice and his poster
will be used to advertise the
Barnet Eurovision Song Contest in primary schools across
Barnet. Well done Nahill!

Where are they now?
Students, who successfully completed their A Level
courses in the 6th Form, have moved on as full-time students to universities, both near and far, and a range of
courses are being followed. Here are some of those students and what and where they are currently studying:
Both Shiva Soleimani Pouya, who achieved B,E,D, and
Nickyle Richards who achieved B, D are studying English
Literature and Media and Media and Cultural Studies at
Middlesex University.
Ahmed Assowe, who achieved E, C, C, is studying Sport
and Exercise Science at East London University and
John McDonald gained A, A, B, D and is now at Northampton University studying Psychology and Sport Science.
Mariana Amaral has gone further afield and is in Brazil at
the Sao Paulo University studying Art and Design after
gaining A, B, D in her A Levels.
Joshua Birt is now studying at Leeds University and following his chosen course in English Literature after gaining C, D, C in his A Levels.
Rebecca Banno, chose to follow a course at South Bank
University, London in Sociology, after achieving 3 Cs at
A Level.
Studying Mathematics with Computer Science at Brunel
University was the course choice and destination of
Sohrab Attaran-Khorasani, who achieved B, C, D.
Sam Coulson, with Grades B,B C went on to study Media
and Cultural Studies at Canterbury CC University.
We are delighted to celebrate the successes of all the
students at The Totteridge Academy and wish them all
every success in the future

Year 7 & 10 Rugby Pilot
Since September The Totteridge Academy has been part of a pilot study in
partnership with Saracens Rugby Club
looking into the impacts that introducing
the sport of Rugby can have in the
school. So far it is fair to say that the
scheme has been a huge success. In
Years 7 and 10 we now have boys and
girls engaged and enjoying Rugby
within their curriculum PE lessons. As
part of the pilot with Saracens they
have provided the school with specialist
rugby coaches to deliver these curriculum sessions right up until February
half term. The coaches have also
developed a Friday lunchtime/
extended tutor rugby club for Years
7, 9 & 10 students. The Saracens
rugby coaches expertise has been
vital in the establishment and development of Rugby within the school.
Our students also had a really good
time taking part in a triangular tournament organised by Saracens
competing against other schools
also involved in the pilot and future
tournaments and fixtures are
planned.
