The Iowa Lottery teamed up with Iowa Tourism to create an awesome
promotion to promote Iowa and the many attractions offered within our state.
The Iowa Lottery then turned to local media to get the word out. KXIA and
KFJB both were thrilled to jump on the "Promote Iowa" band wagon! We are
more than happy to spread the word about the Iowa Lottery’s “Keep Your
Ticket Handy” promotion and the opportunities Iowans have to enjoy their
state’s attractions. This summer when Iowan’s keep a non-winning Power Ball
ticket and go on-line
line to the Iowa Lottery's website they can receive special
discounts to many Iowa attractions including the Iowa Speedway,
Adventureland, Honey Creek Resort, Blank Park Zoo and many, many more!
To help the Iowa Lottery promote the “Keep Your Ticket Handy” promotion
KIX101.1 was in Newton on May 15th for a live remote from 5 to 7pm.
Joining Todd Collins at Casey’s General Store for this remote were
representatives from the Iowa Lottery along with Laura Mannatt and Bobby
Hansen from the Iowa Speedway. Listeners who stopped in were given Iowa
Lottery Bucks good for a FREE Power Ball Ticket, prizes from the Iowa Lottery
and the turnout was spectacular! To get the attention of people driving by the
Iowa Lottery brought the Iowa Lottery Power Bug and the Iowa Speedway
brought a pace car from the Iowa Speedway! It was hard not to notice that
something was going on in Newton! This remote was only the beginning of all
the promotion done by both KXIA and KFJB!

(Continued)
(continued from front page) During the Week of May 25th KFJB’s Kyle Martin was giving
away $10 in Iowa lottery Bucks good toward any Iowa Lottery Tickets, but encouraged to be
used to buy a Power Ball Ticket and use "Keep it Handy" for discounts on Iowa Attractions.
Also, KIX101.1 has hosted five KIX Country Cookouts at area Hy-Vee’s
Hy
in May and June and at
each attendees received not only a free Tailgate Pork Pattie sandwich from Iowa Farm
Families and Hy-Vee’s, but also an Iowa Lottery Buck so that they could play Power
Ball "Keep Your Ticket Handy" to receive discounts and savings at Iowa Attractions! There is
one more opportunity to get your FREE Iowa Lottery Buck at a KIX Country Cookout planned
for July 10th at the Hy-Vee
Vee in Grinnell! Good Luck!
Iowa’s Best Country KIX101.1 is celebrating summer with KIX Country again this year by giving
away FREE Iowa Farm Families Tailgate Pork Patties at area Hy-Vee’s! We had an awesome
turn out at the all of the Cookouts giving away all 288 patties! Please join us again at the
Grinnell Hy-Vee for FREE food and fun!
NASCAR and Country music are synonymous so it only made sense that Iowa’s Best Country, KIX
101.1 and America’s Place to Race, the Iowa Speedway got together for a new race show
Horsepower Hour.
But with the new show, KIX 101.1 listeners and staff needed to be more exposed to racing, so
naturally the place to go was the Iowa Speedway.
KIX 101.1 had the opportunity, along with our listeners to experience the races firsthand. On May
16th and 17th KIX 101.1 was at the Speedway for the ASA Midwest Tour Super Late Models USST
Super Trucks and U.S. Cellular NASCAR Camping World Series East/West Challenge. A real treat for
KIX was to see our logo on the #80 car of Bryan Reffner.
Reffner Race fans were treated to NASCAR driver
Kyle Busch racing on Sunday! Also, the KING, Richard Petty, stopped by the Grinnell Mutual
Concert Stage were Petty did a question and answer session with Todd and Craig with Horsepower
Hour. Besides all the great racing that weekend, KIX 101.1 also got to welcome both Jake Owen
and Iowa’s Own Jason Brown to the Grinnell Mutual Concert Stage for some great country concerts.
On June 21st was one of the Speedway’s bigger races, the Iowa Corn Indy 250 Indy car Series with
the likes of Danica Patrick, Helio Castroneves and Dario Franchitti. Again, in addition to all the
great heart pounding racing, there was a great country concert, Iowa’s own corn fed girl, Shannon
Brown.
More racing and more great country concerts to come this year, and look for KIX 101.1 right next to
the Grinnell Mutual Concert Stage and come say hello.
hello Let’s go RACING!

together to create “KIX101.1’s Kenny Chesney Night on the Town”. Kenny Chesney appeared at Wells
Fargo Arena on May 7, 2009. We contacted the Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau and told
them we had a pair of 5th row seats to give away to a KIX101.1 Loyal Listener Club member (our
kixweb.com based fan club). The Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau immediately went to
work arranging a stay at the Des Moines Embassy Suites on the River, dinner for two at Splash Seafood
Bar and Grille and transportation to and from the concert!
Our winner was Dana Pope from ???.. KIX101.1 would like to thank Jannae Lane and Lane
Till for putting together a fabulous Des Moines experience for our winner! Also, a big thanks to Rich
Mischell at Mischell Productions. Rich promoted the Kenny Chesney concert and provided the great
seats!
This spring we débuted a new game on KIX101.1…PBR
KIX
PASSWORD!!! KIX101.1 gave
listeners a chance to win tickets to go see all the bull riding action at Wells Fargo Arena
in May. We gave our listeners three words associated with Professional Bull Riding and
they had to figure out what the PBR Password was that had to do with all three clues.
If they guessed right they won the tickets! Todd and Jamie also got the chance to
interview Professional Bull Rider Austin Meier.
Meier Great job to KIX Country for guessing
and wining PBR Password!
The Rockabilly Legends Tour Kicks Off in Iowa!
Jerry Naylor took over lead vocal duties for Buddy Holly’s Crickets after Buddy
Holly’s death. He opened for Elvis Presley in 1955 and was there one day later as Buddy
Holly watched Elvis perform live in Lubbock, Texas and Buddy became a Rockabilly singer
the next day.
Jerry decided years ago to create a video, audio and printed tribute to his Rockabilly
friends. The video portion – “The Rockabilly Legends” – has
been shown on Public Television throughout the country. The
next phase of his tributes are live shows. Jerry decided to kick
these live shows off in Iowa and asked KFJB and KIX101.1 to
help promote them!
KFJB and KIX101.1 advertised and promoted the Des
Moines and Clear Lake, Iowa shows. The shows featured Jerry
Naylor, Carl Perkins’ son, Stan and Des Moines teenage
sensation, Richie Lee! Jerry asked KFJB’s Kyle Martin to be
Master of Ceremonies for the Des Moines show! Jerry
supplied our listeners with tickets and an incredible DVD/CD
set!
Thanks to Jerry Naylor for utilizing KFJB and KIX101.1
Kyle Martin at the Val Air Ballroom to spread the work about “The Rockabilly Legends”!
