GETTING TO KNOW THE EXPERTCARE
OFFICE STAFF
We thought it would be nice to introduce ourselves and tell you a little bit
about each of our office staff. Each month we will feature a new interview
with someone from our office.
Meet Amanda Gurne
ECare: Tell our Caregivers a little bit about you.
Amanda: I'm truly a people person. I enjoy being around all people. My position at
Expertcare shows my true colors and personality. I'm a kind, patience, loving
mother, wife and friend. I enjoy anytime spent with my family, especially being
outside in summer and fall. I appreciate the simple things in life that keep me
happy.
ECare: What is on your bucket list?
Amanda: My TOP 51. Stay in a hut in Fiji- the ones over the water
2. Start or own my own Bakeshop
3. Find my abs again after having a baby
4. Teach free swimming lessons to children
5. Become a grandmother
ECare: What is your position at ExpertCare?
Amanda: My position at ExpertCare is Lead Staffing Consultant
ECare: What are your job responsibilities?
Amanda: The responsibilities are endless. I take my job to heart and only want the
best resolution for all. This is not always easy at times. I oversee 4 members of the
recruiting team, I help by providing support and assisting with concerns and
questions.
ECare: How long have you been working at ExpertCare?
Amanda: I have been at ExpertCare for 10 years on July 11. I never dreamed I would
be lucky enough to wake up after 10 years and still enjoy every day.
ECare: Why do you like working for ExpertCare?
Amanda: The number one reason I love my job are my coworkers. I have learned so
many things from others that has shaped whom I am today. I have grown
personally and professionally which I'm thankful for every day. The second reason is
our company culture. ExpertCare's goal is to help others in "big or small" ways. I
enjoy being part of a company that is so excited to help others.
ECare: What is the most challenging part of your position?
Amanda: "Time" is the largest challenge for me. Time is limited every day and I
want to always have a balance between the many needs of others. I want to make
sure everyone gets the attentions needed and that they deserve.
ECare: What’s a good piece of advice for Caregivers?
Amanda: "A smile says a lot without words". You never know what is going on in the
lives around you.

Keeping Your Upstairs Cool This Summer Is a Breeze
Owners of two-story homes face the same problem every summer: The upstairs is hotter than the
first floor. The choice seems to be to sweat it out or lower the thermostat to make up the
difference. Unfortunately, doing nothing can lead to a lot of hot, sleepless nights, while adjusting
the thermostat can give you a chill when you receive your summer energy bills. There has to be a
better way.
Why it's hotter upstairs
The temperature imbalance in your home has to do with science, but you don't have to be a
scientist to understand it. As air gets warmer, its molecules spread farther apart and it becomes
lighter. The lighter hot air rises to the second floor. The denser cool air sinks and gets trapped
downstairs.
Striking the right the balance
While you can't change the laws of physics, there are things you can do to make your upstairs
more comfortable and save money.
Close first floor air registers. This will divert more of that cool air upstairs.
Turn the fan setting on your thermostat to "on." This keeps air flowing throughout your home,
making the temperature more balanced.
Use fans. Place fans at the bottom of the stairs pointing upward, sending cool air on the first floor
upstairs where you need it. If you have ceiling fans in second floor rooms, turn them on. They will
circulate air and make you feel cooler. Switch them off when you leave to avoid wasting energy.
Check attic insulation. Letting conditioned air escape through your attic makes your upstairs
hotter and it costs you money. Hire a qualified contractor to make sure you have the right amount
of attic insulation and to check for and seal any air leaks. Consumers Energy offers rebates on
insulation and windows. You can do it yourself or contact a contractor who has completed at least
one Consumers Energy insulation and windows program job.
Long-term fixes
If your air balance problems are extreme, or you're remodeling your home, consider the following
upgrades:
Cool your roof. Traditional roof materials absorb solar heat and bring it into your home. A cool
roof reflects sunlight and emits solar radiation, reducing the need for air conditioning and making
your home more comfortable.
Get in the zone. Install a zoned system, which adds a second thermostat to control the upstairs
temperature separately. In some cases, a second air conditioner or heat pump for the upstairs
can provide the same benefits. Consumers Energy offers rebates on energy efficient cooling
systems.

The Caregiver of the Month for June was Tanya Wilson
JUNE 2015
Congratulations and thank you for all your hard work and dedication!
Tanya has been a dedicated and reliable caregiver since starting with ExpertCare. She is always going above and beyond
to ensure the safety and well-being of her consumer. ExpertCare was contacted by the consumer’s guardian who raved
about Tanya’s hard work and dedication. Tanya came up with a process to help the consumer know which food item or
lunch to eat by writing down the dates on each sandwich bag. This helped the consumer to recognize what to eat first, on
the days Tanya was not working with her. It is little things like that which make a huge impact on the success of our
consumers. ExpertCare appreciates all of Tanya’s hard work and dedication. Great job and thank you for your continuing
success!
