Don’t You Love The Holidays?
You’re Invited to a Free Concert With
Straight Lace
The Senior Center at Lower Village is celebrating the season by thanking our members for everything they do. We
greatly appreciate your participation in our activities, your financial support and your hours of volunteering.
The Center is thanking its members with a free concert, performed by one of New England’s premier
bands, Straight Lace. Our “Prelude to Prelude” concert will set the tone for the upcoming Christmas Prelude in
Kennebunkport. This enjoyable afternoon of music will be performed at the Nonantum Resort on Sunday,
December 1 at 1:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Members should contact the Senior Center to reserve their
ticket. Tickets are free to members. Tickets for non-members are $5.00 each. We look forward to seeing you at the
Nonantum.
Mark your calendars: 22nd Annual Christmas Fair, Saturday, December 7, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
We have aromatic holiday wreaths with handmade bows, lovely mantle arrangements, the very popular boxwood
trees – handmade by our dedicated volunteers, as well as many other wonderful Christmas items and gifts.
This year with a $5 donation, you can have a beautiful personalized quilted ornament hanging on our
spectacular Christmas tree in memory or in honor of a special loved one, friend, or even a pet. These ornaments
will remain on the tree throughout the holiday season and will be recycled to continue this tradition next year. Visit
us at the Center to sign up for one of these special ornaments and be part of our memorable recognition tree. We’ll
need lots of ornaments to decorate our magnificent and meaningful Christmas tree!
BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND - The Senior Center will be selling Cash Calendars for $10 each.
When you purchase a Cash Calendar for $10, you will get 31 chances to win in the month of January. Throughout
the month of January $1500 in cash prizes will be distributed. Enclosed is a Cash Calendar. If you would like to
purchase one, please submit the bottom half of the calendar with $10 to the Senior Center. We will be selling
additional Cash Calendars at the Annual Christmas Fair on December 1st and during the entire month of
December. Cash Calendars make the perfect gift for…. stocking stuffers, Yankee swaps, Secret Santa gifts, the
hairdresser, the mailman, coworkers, the pet sitter, kids and grandkids. Cash Calendars are the gift that keeps on
giving.

VIVA V♥LUNTEERS
The weather was perfect for our 10th Annual
Coastal Kitchen Tour on Saturday, October 12. The
tour is a tradition for many and a highlight of the
Columbus Day weekend in the Kennebunks! The
kitchens this year were absolutely amazing. We thank
everyone who opened their kitchen to our tour guests.
We could never plan and coordinate the
Coastal Kitchen Tour without the gracious support of
all our volunteers. We are so appreciative of the time
and efforts of our house mothers and docents. They did
a wonderful job of welcoming our guests and everyone
had an amazing time! A special thank you to: Diane
Thayer, Gert Reoch, Janet Acker, Ellen Doubleday,
Monica Meenan, Cynthia Daley, Liddy Leonard,
Marilyn Kinsella, Gail Arnold, Sheila, Marcia Wye,
Sandy Varnum , Patti Graham, Margaret Russell,
Shaaron Hendry, Sandy Janes, Joanne Jacobs,
Audrey Kravitz, Debra Hackett, Kaye Horrigan,
Maureen McKenzie, Phyllis Dolan, Min Sheilds,
Kathy Emmons, Shirley Deschenes, Jeff Pettit, and
Jane Sims.
We also had volunteers helping at the Center
with set-up, greeting guests, selling tickets, giving
directions and serving the delicious lobster roll box
lunches donated by Huntington Common and Wink’s.
Many thanks to: Sandy Myers, Kathy King, Tricia
Gallagher, and Karen Markellos.
Looking for all “crafty” volunteers to help
create and decorate boxwood trees and centerpieces
as we prepare for the annual Christmas Fair on
December 7th. No experience required! We have a
talented group of “teachers” that will show you the art
of boxwood tree and centerpiece arranging.
Workshops will be held from Monday, December 2nd
thru Thursday, December 5th , from 9am-12pm and
12:30-3pm. Please call me to reserve your spot for one
or more workshops.

NEWS from Susan …
It’s such an exciting time at the Center as
our new computer equipment has arrived
thanks to the generous grant from
Huntington Common Charitable Fund for
Seniors. We will be taking further steps
into the 21st century, and enjoy all the
things that this technology offers. We
have four laptop computers, two iPads,
WiFi, a black and white printer, and a
projector so you can learn “hands on.”
We have been working to develop a “buddy”
program with students from the University of New
England, as well as students from Kennebunk High. We
are trying to have a “buddy” here every day of the week to
assist with questions you may have about using the
equipment on a one-on-one basis. We will ask that you
call us at least a day in advance to let us know if you
would like to come so that the students can make the best
use of their time and yours. We want to make the
“buddies” available to as many as possible so each session
will be limited to 30 minutes, unless there is no one
waiting. If you would like to learn on your own laptop,
bring it along. The students are familiar with Mac
computers as well, so if you have one, they can help you
with that too!
When the students are not here we encourage you
to come in to “play” with the computers so you will
become more familiar and comfortable with using them.
This is not just for beginners who want to learn or
those who do not have computers though. Feel free to
stop by with your own laptop or iPad or Kindle or Nook
and enjoy the Center!
On another MOST IMPORTANT NOTE, thank
you to all of our veterans and to their families – it is
difficult to be the spouse or child of a service member.
God Bless you all – you are absolutely national treasurers
It’s hard for me to believe that the holidays are
upon us – doesn’t it seem like we were gearing up for
summer? I hope you will be one of those lucky members
who attended our pre-Thanksgiving dinner, delivered and
served by our friends from Southern Maine Medical
Center. It is always a delicious meal and we are grateful to
SMMC for continuing this tradition.
Thank you to those who have volunteered for our
Elder Elves project and to those who are helping us
prepare for our Christmas Fair on December 7th.
To you and yours, from all of us at the Center, we
wish you the merriest of holidays and a happy New Year.

Winter Snow Policy
With winter soon to be in full blast, we want to
remind you of the Center’s snow policy. It is our
policy to close if the schools are closed. If the roads
aren’t safe for school children, they aren’t safe for
you. So if the schools for RSU # 21 (Kennebunk/
Kennebunkport) are closed, the Center is closed as
well. Local news channels WCSH 6, WGME 13and,
WMTV 8 post the closings on TV. In addition, the
Senior Center will have its’ own listing which will be
especially helpful during school vacation.

We need all of you!
It’s important that if you are interested in
attending a program, luncheon, or event at the
Senior Center that you sign up for such. Equally
important, if you sign up and then realize you
cannot attend, please call the office and let us
know. Do not assume that if you do not attend, the
program will still be scheduled. Frequently a
minimum number of attendees is required to have
the program and it is only courteous to our
presenters to be able to give them a head count so
he/she are able to decide whether or not to hold
the program.
