Thank you to all the members of this great community that joined
us in person, in service, and in spirit as we acknowledged the
passing of our father - Don Hendel.
Don called Wilmont home his entire life. He was surrounded by
wonderful people that looked out for him - by direct contact or
silently ensuring he was doing okay.
We will all miss him in our own way. Events that he joined in on random visits for coffee, phone calls, fishing trips, hunting, tractor
rides, bonfires, church, and community gatherings that he will
now be present in spirit.
We acknowledge your care and friendship in his life and
are sincerely grateful for all you have done for him throughout
the years.

FAMED AUTHOR TO VISIT THE AREA IN JUNE
William Kent Krueger has sold over one million books, has been on
the New York Times Best Selling Books List, and has won many
awards for his book, including the acclaimed Ordinary Grace; and
his Cork O’Connor mystery/thriller series, which are set in

personal appearances, thanks to Minnesota Legacy Grants. The
three sponsoring libraries include: Adrian Branch Library, Nobles
County Library in Worthington, and Rock County Library in Luverne.

Luverne. These author visits are funded in part or in whole with
money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4,
2008 which dedicated funding to preserve Minnesota’s arts and
cultural heritage. The programs are free and open to the public.
Krueger’s first author talk will take place at the Adrian Elementary
School on Tuesday, June 7, at 7:00 p.m. On
Wednesday, June 8, Krueger will visit the Rock
County Library in Luverne at 1:00 p.m.; and he will

Wilmont
Mrs. John Moser left Saturday for her voyage to
Bergen in Norway. She intends to stay until next fall.
Casper Becker is mourning the death of three of his
brothers, who recently died in the space of three
weeks, near Paderborn, Westphalia in Germany.
Township trustee, Jake Bach, went to Minneapolis
last Thursday to purchase all such tools as are
necessary for efficient work on the roads. He was
accompanied by Gust Sievers, the Wilmont dealer in
farm machinery. They came home Saturday evening.
W. W. Kerner moved the latter part of the week into
the John Broich home in west Wilmont.
Mrs. Clem Schlichte received the sad news Sunday
that her mother had died a few hours earlier at her
home in Halbur, Iowa.
Mrs. Adeheid Popkin of Bloom Township died April 2
at 2:15 p.m. at the home of her son, Carl. She was
born March 30, 1841 at Sillenstede, in Germany.
Tom Carey, of Crookston, came the last of the week
and will spend his two weeks’ vacation with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Carey. He is employed by
the Great Northern people in that city.
Mrs. Margaret Rogers was born July 1, 1842, in
Illinois and died at her home in Wilmont Sunday, April
12, aged 79 years, 9 months, 12 days. She moved with
her parents when a small child to Wisconsin, where
she grew to womanhood and where she was married
August 18, 1878 to James Rogers. Shortly after this
marriage Mr. and Mrs. Rogers moved on a farm a few
miles north of Wilmont, where they resided for a few
months, and then moved to a farm in Jackson County
which they worked for four years. They then moved
to a farm a few miles north of Wilmont where they
resided five years and then came to Wilmont and have
made it their home ever since. She is survived by her
husband and daughter, Mrs. Frank Densmore. The
funeral services were held in the Presbyterian
Church.
Thomas Enright is the new manager at the Farmers’
Elevator.
The new 50 h.p. gas engine which is to run the
electric light plant for the city arrived the last of the
week and is now being installed at the power house.
The Odd Fellows at this place will celebrate the 25th
anniversary of the order Sunday, April 26. A. J. Olund,
formerly of this city, but now of Sioux Falls, will deliver
an address at the hall at 2 o’clock in honor of the
occasion.
St. Kilian
Glad to report that Mrs. Herman Kuemper, of St.
Kilian, is on her feet again after a three weeks’ critical illness.
Mrs. Mike Didier and four little daughters spent last Thursday
with their mother and grandmother, Mrs. Peter Meyer, in Summit
Lake Township.
Her many friends will be glad to hear that Mrs. J. H. Suedbeck,
of St. Kilian, has sufficiently recovered from her recent serious
illness to resume her household work.
Sunday the first banns of marriage between Mr. John Hoffman
and Miss Mary Hebelman were published in the St. Kilian
Church. The 29th of this month is the day set for their wedding.
Lismore
Messrs. And Mesdames Louis Leguil, John Kopp, and Grandma
Balkenol were guests of the Charles Kopp family in Lismore
Township on Sunday.
The families of Jake Bach and Joe Heling and Messrs. Andrew
Henning and John Forrett spent the afternoon of Sunday most
agreeably with the John Voss family.
Peter Leguil, who spent the last three years at Albuquerque,
N.M., returned last week Tuesday to his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Louis Leguil. His stay in New Mexico has considerably improved
his health. Thus there is no place like home, thought Peter, and
so he came back to enjoy the company of his parents, brothers
and sisters.
Born to Mr. and Mrs. Albert Voss Monday, April 6, a boy.
Weitzel & Bach took possession of the Meyer Bros hardware
and furniture store last week and are now ready to receive your
patronage.
The ploes and some of the tools for the new electric light plant
arrived here the first of the week and work will soon commence
on the building and wiring, and then it will not be long before
Lismore will have electric lights.
Wednesday Roelofs Bros. disposed of their hardware stock and
building to Mr. Redmond, of Omaha, in exchange for some fine
land. The new owner will take possession on May 1. Roelofs
Bros. will continue in the implement business and will open an
office in the Van Rossum building, just north of the hardware
store.
The M. M. McCann’s and Peter Baltis families, who were
quarantined for scarlet fever, were let out last Saturday.
The old jail building was moved onto the village lot by the fire
house last Tuesday. Ned Smith moved his shoe shop and cream
station into it Thursday and J. N. Nicolay moved his jewelry stock
into the room vacated by Smith.
Tidbits
When starching children’s pinafores, add a small piece of sugar
to the boiled starch. This will make them iron more easily and
leave a beautiful gloss on them.
Women are more and more crowding men out of all lines of
work. They begin to be dissatisfied with doing all the housework,
most of the chores and even help in the fields during the busy
season, while their “men” strut around town boasting how much
money they made last year or how much they got for their hogs,
never mentioning that their wives fed the hogs. Such an
unreasonable state of things leads to dangerous complications.

Photo From the Past
The photo this week is from inside Huisenga Grocery. On Wednesday and Saturday nights everyone from miles around would come to
town to do their shopping. Some of the women would sit in the gro-

cery store and visit. The women in this picture are (L-R) Mrs. George
(Carrie) Probst, Mrs. Nick (Anna) Probst, and Mrs. Gaul. Not sure if
the third person in correct. If anyone recognizes this lady and can
let me know the first name or if “Gaul” is the correct name, contact
me at [email protected] or call me at 507-472-8267.
