From the Wilmont City Council:
A matter of discussion at the last couple of council meetings has
been the future of Butts Probst Field. As we no longer have the
Wilmont Cardinal baseball team, the cost of upkeep of the area has
to be determined. The council is asking for your opinion at the next
council meeting, June 14th @ 7PM.
As storage sheds are getting more popular, a reminder from the
council is that they still require permit approval from the city council
before they are brought in. This includes so called portable and
permanent.
We are reminding all city residents that the mowing of your grass
clippings into the streets is NOT allowed. This causes the storm
drains to back up when it rains.
PLEASE DON’T mow clippings into the streets.

The Legion Hall was “bursting at the seams” again when
local folks, out-of-towners, and many former residents of
Lismore gathered on Memorial Day to remember those who
have died for our freedom. The Auxiliary, American Legion,
and Sons of the American Legion (SAL) had another wellplanned program, which included a speech by Noah Roerig,
(grandson of Marv & Ruth Lorang) titled “Was it Worth It”
and prayers led by Pastor Tom Voigt. Mark Loosbrock sang
”Memorial Hallelujah” and Ruth Lorang read the poem
“Remembering," which was originally written by Kay Cox of
Adrian. Brent Feikema and Avis Stoffel read a long list of
deceased veterans from our area and gave special
recognition to the recently deceased veterans, namely: Don
Hendel, Gilbert Metz and Chad Sachen. Dean Knips quietly
accompanied them on the piano. Darwin Veld announced
the names of the scholarship recipients: Collin Kemper, son
of Chris & Mindy; Marissa Veld, daughter of Troy & Cindy of
Lismore; Olivia Weidert, daughter of Jim & Kris; and Nick
Lorang, son of Mark & Janine. The American Legion Post
#636, S.A.L., Auxiliary, Buck & Rita Krogman family, Earl &
Joyce Erdman family, and the Clair & Dorothy Springman
family fund those scholarships. Frank Kemper, President of
the SAL, presented a check to the Legion for $2,500. After
visiting all three cemeteries with taps being played by Nick
Lorang, a potluck dinner was served. It was a wonderful
day to remember and honor those who died for our

James Phillips finished his term of school in the Frank
Balster district this Friday.
Ernest Boots, section 27, has recently planted some 300
trees. He will have in a few years a large, well laid out
grove.
The big addition which Larkin Township trustee, Jake Bach,
sect. 4, has built to his house, gives his home a 75 per cent
better appearance. Jake is a No. 1 carpenter himself.
Messrs. And Mesdames William Bruns, John Lebens and
Mrs. Adam Balk, of Wilmont and the families of Hy. Lenz,
Conrad Theis and Hy. Vaske were Sunday’s excellently
treated guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lorenz Balk.
Our two trustees, Mike Hendel and Hy. Slater, called on
their colleague, Jake Bach, last Sunday, to tell one another
beautiful stories about what happens in dry towns and to
take the proper steps to put the Adrian-Lismore and
Rushmore-Wilmont roads in excellent order. You know
why?
Those three newly married young men, Joe Fath, sect. 5,
Louis Fritz, sect. 4, and Joe Henning, sect 9, are most
laudably vying with one another in the exact cultivation of
their land. If good luck stays with them, they will in a few
years be able to buy the places they are now
tenanting. Hope you will, boys.
The thunder storm we had last Sunday night was
accompanied by a violent wind that tore and wrecked many
buildings. On the Conrad Theis place it blew down a new
hog house and bouleversed everything that it touched. In
many other places the traces of its fury could be seen
Monday morning.
Mrs. John Moser wrote her husband that she arrived
safely at Bergen, Norway. She was ten days between
heaven and water. Over 500 Norwegians were on the same
ship with her.
Frank Kizer recently purchased the old Geisel half section
in Bloom Township.
Mrs. F. A. Haselman was confined to her home several
days the first of the week with an attack of rheumatism.
Miss Anna Teitenberg returned Saturday from Westbrook,
where she had completed a successful term of school.
Miss Lillian Teitenberg finished a successful term of school
south of Rushmore Friday and returned home Saturday.
Miss Carrie Teitenberg, who has been teaching the Tilton
school in Bloom Township, returned home Saturday. She
finished a very successful term in that district Friday.
William Weick was passing the Havanas around to his
friends Friday morning and informing them that the stork
had left a 10-pound girl at his home Thursday evening, May
7.
Lismore
Saturday evening the stork visited at the P. H. Sommerfield
home and left a nine-pound girl.
John Meyer purchased the southeast quarter of section
14, Leota Township, of E. A. Brown, of Luverne.
At the meeting of the I.O.O.F. Lodge Ned Smith was chosen as a
delegate to attend the grand lodge at Northfield in June.
William Weineke brought in a hog Monday which he sold to the
Farmers Elevator that weighed 620 pounds and he received a check for
$54.41.
William Lux, of Minnesota lake, arrived Wednesday and will take
charge of the C. L. Colman Lumber yards to fill J. J Weitzel’s place, who
resigned some time ago.
The Erpeldings and the Leguils last week had telephones installed in
their homes. They may now get the news fresh from the source.
Two of the Henry Fisher, sect. 24, daughters drove to Lismore last
Friday, and incidently called on their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Rust.
Born Monday of last week to Mr. and Mrs. K. Erickson, of Lismore
Township, an angelic baby daughter. Mrs. Erickson was formerly Ida
Brandt of Larkin Township. Her old school comrades wish her and her
first born babe a long and happy life.
The engine for the electric light plant arrived Thursday.
Saturday J. N. Didier sold his 200-acre farm in Larkin Township to
Henry Kern for $135 per acre, and in turn Didier bought the Kern 120acre farm at $125 per acre.
Wednesday $. N. Hensen sold his dray line to Mr. Winters, of near
Adrian. He will take possession Monday morning. Mr. Hensen has been
in the business at Lismore for about 10 years during which time he has
enjoyed a fine business.
About a dozen friends were entertained at the G. Knips home last
Sunday afternoon in honor of Mr. and Mrs. William Boettcher, who
expect to leave for a four months’ visit with friends and relatives in
Germany the last of the week. Mr. and Mrs. Boettcher will stop with
friends in Chicago for a week enroute to New York. They will sail from
New York on the 24th of this month.
St. Kilian
Contractor Willliam Bruns and his nine men have this week started to
erect for the Klenke Bros., section 24, house, barn, corn crib, granary,
hog house and such other structures as beautify a homestead.
Mrs. H. Pass and children, Henry and Lizzie, went to Lismore Saturday,
where they visited at the home of Mrs. William Lenz until Monday. Mrs.
Pass and Mrs. Lenz are twin sisters and Saturday, the 9th, they
celebrated the 33rd birthday.
