Did you know...
The Central Ohio Chapter of the BCA was founded
in 1974 and at request of the late Len Immke.
And, two members from the chapter founded
and ran the first Arthritis Foundation Car Show
in 1982. The Central Ohio Chapter has supplied
resources for every Arthritis Foundation Car Show
since then. Members of the Central Ohio Chapter
hold monthly meetings, usually on the third
Thursday of each month, as well as hosting other
social events throughout the year. The Central
Ohio Chapter has hosted two BCA National Meets
and several BCA Regional events as well. For
more information concerning the Central Ohio

Director
Summer, We Hardly Knew Ye...
Well kids, we are once again on the downhill side of the car season. There are still some exquisite driving days
ahead, but the end for another year is in sight. It is said that in the Spring, a young man’s fancy turns to love. Well
in the Fall, a car collector’s fancy turns toward storage, maintenance, and rechroming. By the time you read this,
the fall swap meet in Springfield will be history and the Carlisle and Hershey meets will only be two and three
weeks away respectively. My big splurge for this year? If I pull the trigger this week, I’ll be picking up a new set of
wide white walls for my Roadmaster at the Springfield meet. Before I mount them, I’ll take them and the car down
to Bee Line and have them make sure the rims are straight. I’m hoping that smoothes out my ride a bit.
Even though the 2007 driving season will be ending soon, it’s not too soon to think about summers coming. The
2009 National meet is apparently going to Colorado. Congratulations to them on submitting a winning bid. I hope
we will look at submitting a bid for a holding a “National” again. I understand not everyone in the club wants to
do that and that’s fine. I think we have a great chapter with lots to offer each other and the national club. The
national meet is a topic I will bring up at the September meeting. I will make a motion that we form a committee
to study the idea. The committee’s job will be to answer the question, “If we host a national meet, what will it
take and how would we approach the task?” The committee will report back to the chapter at some later date
and we will debate and possibly vote on bidding on the 2010 meet. I know the chapter voted against bidding on
2009, but I’d like to make a case for hosting 2010. If you have an opinion on the matter, bring it to the meeting. If
you don’t have an opinion, come to the meeting, listen to and join the discussion, and form an opinion. What the
club does depends on you.
Once again, thanks go to John and Alice for a wonderful time at The Farm. Continue to wash, wax, drive, and
enjoy your rides for the summer. Make your plans and budgets for work on them during the winter. And come to
The Garage at Tom & Dana Kromer’s house so we can enjoy each other’s company and talk about things to keep
us busy in the summer.

Buick ties Lexus for
Number 1 in Reliability
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com)
For the first time in 12 years, Toyota’s Lexus luxury brand has to share its top rank
in J.D. Power and Associates’ annual Vehicle Dependability Study.
And it has to share it with an American car... BUICK!
General Motors’ Buick brand tied Lexus in the study, which measures the number
of problems owners experience with their cars after three years of ownership.
Following Lexus and Buick in the rankings were GM’s Cadillac luxury brand, Ford’s
Mercury brand and Honda’s Honda brand. Toyota’s mass-market Toyota brand
ranked sixth.
“Consumers don’t neccessarily need to pay premium prices to obtain high quality
and dependability,” said Neal Oddes, director of product research and analysis for
J.D. Power and Associates.
“With three non-premium nameplates - Buick, Honda and Mercury - ranking
within the top five,” he said, “and particularly with Buick tying with Lexus for
the top rank, consumers seeking a vehicle with strong dependability have good
choices at various price levels.”
J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study is based on responses from more than
53,000 original owners of 2004 model year vehicles.
Owners of the top-ranked Lexus and Buick vehicles experienced 145 problems
per 100 vehicles. Owners of second-ranked Cadillac vehicles experienced 162
problems per 100 vehicles.
The lowest-ranking brand was Land Rover, Ford’s European luxury SUV brand.
Land Rover owners experienced 398 problems per 100 vehicles, according to the
survey.

2007 BPG Nationals

On August 3–5 the Buick Performance Group held their meet at
National Trail Raceway for the first time at this location. Our family,
the Stone’s and the Herr’s all decided to work in a camping trip
with this event, since we have our camper set up in Granville. Susan
and I and the boys were going to try to go to the show on Friday
but it was so hot by the time we would of gotten there we decided
to just go straight to the camper and wait for everyone else to
arrive. Saturday morning we all got up, had breakfast, and then
headed for National Trails. I didn’t get a count on the cars at the
event but it looked like a nice turn out. We spotted a club member
or two, including Tom Kromer. A few of us went over to watch the
drag racing and discuss why I wasn’t going to race Susan’s car. I
explained that not only had she told me no racing but my Dad had
told me the same. When I saw a car break at the starting line that
took care of me.
By the middle of the afternoon our water supply was running low
and the heat was starting to get the best of us so we all started
to head back to the campgrounds. We had met some other friends at the show and invited them back to the
campground to join us for a cookout. We ate some food, told some stories and were looking at the cars when
Susan came and rounded up the guys. She had once again been able to suprise me for my birthday. Darkness
came and some of the crew decided they would head back to their hotels, and we decided to put the kids to bed
and prepare for one of Susan’s famous campfires. Sometime after Midnight the adults all decided to call it a night.
Sunday morning we woke up to alot of rain. It was a wash out for the meet so we all just took our time getting
packed up to head back home. Although we ended up soaked from the rain you just can’t beat family, friends,
camping and Buicks. Hope to be able to do again next year.
