The Joinery began as a furniture refurbishing and repair business in 1982.Each piece of residential furniture
is wholly built by a single woodworker. Join us for this unique tour to watch their craftspeople at work as they
use time-honored joinery techniques to create masterful pieces in a variety of modern and traditional designs
that showcase the beauty and warmth of their hardwood furniture.
The Joinery creates furniture that is as functional and durable as it is beautiful. The Portland, Oregon
woodshop is a paragon of balancing modern technology with traditional hand craftsmanship and not a scrap
of wood, or even a puff of sawdust, is sent to a landfill. All scrap wood is recycled into new products or
donated. Their woodshop boasts a dust collection system and briquette machine that collects all sawdust
and transforms it into wood briquettes that they donate to the community.
The Joinery is committed to renewable energy, and generates power from solar panels on their rooftop.
They purchase wind power credits for any electricity purchased from the utility, and their delivery truck runs
on biofuel, and they also utilize high-efficiency lighting throughout their shop and showroom to further reduce
energy needs. This unique Portland-based shop is one of a kind and they are just as friendly to their customers as they are to the environment.

CRYSTAL SPRINGS RHODODENDRON GARDEN

(once in you may stay as long as you
like and enjoy the gardens up until 6pm)

to enjoy in the covered area
near the exhibit hall. (tables and chairs will be set up in a covered area, courtesy of the
garden volunteer crew. If you see them out there be sure to thank them and say hello!)

William S. Ladd, who served two terms as the mayor of Portland in the 1800s, was the original owner of the
property. He called it Crystal Springs Farm. The oldest rhododendron in the current garden was planted
prior to 1917. The first rhododendron show was held in 1956, and the garden was officially named Crystal
Springs Rhododendron Garden in 1964. The rocks used to build the waterfalls and other features were
gathered from Mt Hood and Mt Adams.
The more than 2,500 rhododendrons, azaleas, and companion plants in the garden have all been donated
by volunteers and interested individuals, or purchased with specially donated funds. Beginning in early
spring and continuing into summer, they provide a magnificent display of color, giving visitors the opportunity
to view many varieties rarely seen in the Pacific Northwest. During the fall, many companion trees add
dramatic coloring. Spring-fed Crystal Springs Lake surrounds much of the garden, attracting many species of
birds and waterfowl.
Directions
The garden entrance is located on SE 28th Avenue, one block north of Woodstock,
between Eastmoreland Golf Course and Reed College. Or take TriMet bus #19
Woodstock. This bus takes alternating routes as it goes through Eastmoreland; ask the
driver for the stop nearest the garden.
