WOW! There is so much happening in the “music world” at BES during the
month of October! Students are leading the singing during Monday, Wednesday
and Friday chapel services every week and doing such a wonderful job of serving the Lord and using their gifts. Our students will look forward to performing
special music for Grandparent’s and Special Friends’ Day on Monday, October 7th. Fifth and
sixth grade students will be visiting the St. John’s Cathedral for a special time of worship with
other Episcopal schools in Jacksonville on
Wednesday, October 9th. Our Music Enrichment classes started on Tuesday after school
from 3:15 p.m.-4:00 p.m. If you have not
joined, try the Orff Music Club the next six
weeks as we have several spots available for
3rd-6th grades. Plan to call the school and add
your son or daughter to the roster! I will be
collecting any “treasures” you might have to
put in our “treasure box” to be given to students on special music days (i.e. inexpensive
wrapped candy, pencils, stickers, sports cards,
or gently used trinkets found around the house that wouldn’t be missed). The kids love getting
surprises. Blessings, Peace, and Joy to you all!

Technology
The Stormes Hall students are really enjoying their new computer lab.
The Pre-k students are working on the eye-hand coordination with the
mouse and pointer on the screen.
Kindergarten and first grade students
will be using the keyboards to type their site words and spelling words as well as learning how to navigate to a website. A
favorite website of the first grade is www.Friv4School.com.
Please make sure you have the “4school” in the address at
home.
Second graders are working hard on their keyboarding. They
have learned all the home keys and will be moving to the additional keys on the middle row. Third grade students will continue with spreadsheets using the program iWorks Numbers along with their continuing poetry
project.
Fourth grade students will continue with spreadsheets using the program iWorks Numbers and
strengthen their keyboarding skills. Fifth grade students will work with spreadsheets and processes the data from the school-wide egg drop. Sixth grade students will use iMovie to edit the

The children will be learning about St. Francis of Assisi and why we
bless our pets at the start of the month. We will discuss “Love” and
“Peace” as part of our introduction to the Fruits of the Spirit and the
children will be hearing bible stories and exploring how they can incorporate these fruits into their lives.
A big Thank You to the 4th, 5th, and 6th
graders that participated in BES Sunday. It
was a wonderful service, so glad to see so
many BES families there. Our CE classes
are going great. 2nd grade is up to letter ‘G’
of their memory verses. Parents, please encourage them to recite them for you. They are doing a super job. Hopefully your 3rd graders are sharing the Fruit of the Spirit love and joy with you at home. 4th graders
have had some great discussions about Noah and Abraham. They will continue to see how Abraham’s obedience has blessed us all. 5th grade is enjoying the Gospel of John and learning about
life in Biblical times. Psalm 3:3- Let love and faithfulness never leave you. Many Blessings .

We are finishing up our study of various Bible tools like concordances,
expository dictionaries, and other supporting publications that help us
understand the scripture better. In October, we will explore the book of
I Timothy and discover how Paul mentored Timothy, a young pastor in
the faith. Students will be challenged to be a mentor to those in their
sphere of influence.
October is one of the students favorite months. They love the Halloween Freeze song. In Movement, we are working on throwing
and catching. We will also do Halloween themed activities such as
spider tag, pumpkin patch dash,
monster mash, and a scary obstacle course. In Kines we will do the Thriller dance, the
Golden Chicken, and other activities focusing on communication. Keep moving!

Are you ready for some football??? The children are enjoying playing flag football during PE. 2nd and 3rd graders are learning to throw the football and basic
positions of the game. 4th 5th and 6th graders are ready to play the game. We
have practiced offense and defense drills, run routes and everyone has practiced
at quarterback. The students are getting to rotate from quarterback, center, to the
wide receiver positions. If you and your child are at home
watching NFL this weekend talk to them about the positions and the flow of the game. From football we will
transition into European Football, or rather soccer.

Remember that running style shoes are the school policy.
When the students are running, jumping, and playing
around it is important to have proper footwear. Skate
shoes just don’t have the same support as an athletic or
running shoe.
Stay Safe and Have Fun!!!
Art
Don’t forget to check out the pottery plates that will be auctioned
off at the Fall Festival on October 25th. Each class created their
own rectangle platter, and they are amazing.
Kindergarten and first will start a lesson on trees. Second grade
will create artwork based on nature. Third grade will begin their
study on food and learning about artists like Thiebaud and Pelham. Fourth graders will begin a study of clay coil pots and fifth
grade will study architecture. Sixth graders will begin a study on
printmaking.
