March and finishes 5.30pm on Wednesday
18 March. Attendance can also be arranged on a
daily basis for people unable to stay for the whole

Airports increasingly present a major infrastructure
constraint to meeting the demand for air travel.
Expansion of air services often conflicts with other
government policy objectives and is becoming
a highly contentious topic. Meanwhile, the
regulatory framework for air transport continues to
evolve. This seminar aims to address a number of
key issues of interest to airport and airline planners
and managers and those formulating air
transport policy.
Measures to expand airport capacity will
be considered in relation to both terminals and
runways and the interaction with surface transport.
Economic and environmental issues will be
interpreted. The implications of airline strategies
for airports will be addressed, with particular
reference to changing patterns of passenger
demand and airline operations. Methods for
improving the efficiency of operations will be
evaluated, including research needs in forecasting
and marketing. Government policy in the UK and
other countries will be discussed.
The seminar has been designed to appeal
to a wide range of participants including
airport and airline planners, managers and
operational staff, aviation specialists in government
departments, analysts from aircraft manufacturers
and consultants.

This seminar is one of a number of short courses
organised by the Department of Planning and
Transport at the University of Westminster. Each
course provides an in-depth analysis of a topical
issue through a limited number of high class,
detailed presentations.
The Department of Planning and Transport
has been involved with air transport research,
consultancy and teaching for 40 years. The
University’s association with aviation goes back
much further however as it was here in the 19th
Century that Sir George Cayley first demonstrated
the principles of flight.

situated in the heart of London at 35 Marylebone
Road - 100 metres east of Baker Street
underground station and directly opposite
