Our ski engineers and designers in Central Switzerland are very devoted to
pursuing the research and development of new technologies, geometries
and designs. Each year in Malters LU alone 50 Stöckli employees, including 6
apprentices, carefully handcraft 50 000 pairs of skis.
Substantial heart and soul go into the minute details involved in grinding and
testing the skis to achieve that uncompromising Swiss quality. Each handcrafted model is thus visible and tangible evidence of these efforts and is what
turns them into winner skis.

Even more difficult were the conditions encountered during the giant slalom. The starting gate
area was hit by heavy snowfall, while heavy rain fell on the final slope – a challenge best
mastered by Tina Maze. The Slovene earned her second gold medal by reaching clear best time
in the first run and delivering a good second run.
Meanwhile Stöckli’s Canadian athletes, Marielle Thompson (Gold) and Kelsey Serwa (Silver),
even celebrated a double victory in ski cross.

Tina Maze scored her first victory in the downhill – the royal discipline of alpine racing. She
skied across the finish line simultaneously with Dominique Gisin, giving Stöckli its first alpine
gold medal at the Winter Games. The race was marked by extremely variable conditions at both
the starting gate and finish, putting high demands on both athletes and material.
