THANKS FOR BEING A PART OF THE THREAD
Last year in our annual report we shared the progress we were making toward
realizing our vision of becoming the “Charity of Choice” for Western Wake County.
To quote the writers and editors of The Cary Magazine in their January 2015 issue.
HOWARD MANNING
Executive Director
“Dorcas Ministries made the leap to top vote-getter as Best Charity, following honorable
mention nods in the past two Maggy contests.”This was made possible by the contributions
of an army of volunteers, the guidance of an engaged Board of Directors, the commitment of
a staff with the attitude that all things are possible, and most importantly, the community
support of and belief in the mission and core values of Dorcas Ministries.
Whatever role you played in being a part of the Dorcas needle and thread in 2014 was crucial
in helping us bind together the resources and needs our community for the betterment of all.
A few milestones from 2014:
• Record revenue generation from Dorcas Thrift Shop sales reached $1,200,000.
• Record distribution of $412,000 was provided to support our Outreach Programs.
• From August-December 2014, our team of 375 volunteers logged 19,400+ hours.
• The Bill Bennington award from the BCBS Foundation for work in board development.
• Received the Maggy Award for Best Charity, and recognition from other area nonprofits as
a leader in Best Nonprofit Practices in our area.
• 2014 Cary Living Award for the Best Place to Donate Time.
• The evolution from just a giving organization to a giving and hand-up organization, providing in-house and community network support to move clients to self-sufficiency.”
While we are thrilled to have reached our goal of becoming the
Charity of Choice for 2014, we realize that our work is not completed.
We say Thank You and ask for your continued support on the journey.

TRAINING
Our training center was a hub of activity
in 2014 with classes in job training, computer skills
development, financial literacy, and mentoring to over 700
area residents. We heard great success stories from our
clients. One grateful woman shared that “thanks to all the
help I received in the training center… I now have three
job offers!”
JOBS FOR LIFE Seventeen students successfully
completed Jobs for Life. They prepared professional
resumes, fine-tuned their interview skills, explored career
paths and created a road map to chart their vocational
plans. Most of all they were filled with encouragement
and the assurance of God’s love.
CRISIS MINISTRIES “Thank you Dorcas for helping
me stay in my home. Without your help, my family would
have been out on the street,” wrote one of the 495
families that the Crisis Ministry assisted with rent in 2014.
We also helped with electricity, water, medical, and
other necessary bills—with financial assistance of over
$280,000.
EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS Twenty adults were

provided nearly $38,000 in preschool and early childhood
education scholarships.
DORCAS HOPE Through a partnership with the Center
for Hope and Healing, we were able to help twenty clients
with mental health counseling. They worked through
issues such as depression, grief, divorce and anxiety that
were holding them back from enjoying a full life.
FOOD PANTRY Over 1,400 families received food
assistance from the Dorcas Food Pantry. Through
generous donations from Scouts, churches, youth groups,
schools, grocery stores, community gardens and area
restaurants, we were able to provide a good variety
of healthy and yummy food for those struggling in our
community.
